In this sequel to Survival Instinct, a small group that made it out of Leighton alive is now settling in at the Bishop cabin. It has been only one week since the Day, and they’re all still reeling from it. Despite this, they intend to survive and are preparing the cabin for the long months ahead. That is, until a plane lands on the lake, and an occupant inside delivers news that one survivor just can’t ignore. Meanwhile, at the North Leighton Correctional Facility, the dead are piling up outside. The walls are completely surrounded, and both citizens and mercenaries taking refuge inside are far from safe. Not only is the pressure building within, but something new has arrived outside the prison. It’s watching them. It’s waiting for them to make a mistake.
Perfectly entertaining; the major weakness of this book is the extreme number of characters the author introduces and tries to juggle in the first third of the book -- by the time the narrative comes back for a second helping, the reader is liable to have forgotten what happened the first time around for that group of characters. Eventually the narratives start to converge as characters meet up and/or die off; as long as the reader can keep plugging away through the first third of the book it does eventually pay off. My attention span may be on the short end, so YMMV.
Rating: 4 stars [Good enough to track down the sequel.]
Adaptive Instinct by Kristal Stittle: I loved Survival Instinct, the first book, and worried that maybe the sequel would not live up to it. However, if anything, the sequel is even better. I love the new look, too. This book can stand alone without having read the first book, but you're really missing out if you don't start with Survival Instinct. This is a nice long book, just like the first, with another satisfying ending. If you enjoy survival books that take place after an apocalyptic event, buy these books!
I thought this book was better than the first one in this series. Would recommend you read both books so you know what is going on. This is a typical zombie book so if you like zombie books it is worth the read. One of those books you keep trying to put down but keep picking it back up to read. Recommended.
From Riley's cabin, right into the heart of downtown Leighton and to the White Box itself, Kristal Stittle takes us on a trip where everyone must fight for survival.
A great sequel to Survival instinct!
Making some of the zombies surrounding the prison smarter, capable of complex abilities was the logical next step & Stittle pulled it off perfectly.
Pretty good. I was a little let down by the ending--it was a bit too gooey. I really like these Kristal Stittle zombie books, though, and I hope there will be more.
Very good sequel although we never really got information on certain story lines that had been brought up, they were very vague and I felt should have been fleshed out more
