Young necromancer, Frannie, is settling in to Rune Academy with her new best friends Chloe and Amy. Between sleepovers and late night snacks, as well as potion mishaps and defensive training, Frannie is enjoying being away from her overprotective family. But a new adventure is right around the corner. First there’s an encounter with a magical creature that bonds with the girls. Then Emma Barker, the ghost they previously rescued, begs Frannie to reanimate her so she can go to school with them. Is our young necromancer up to the challenge? And just what is causing all the mishaps at the school?
The second book in the Sorcery After School series centers on young Frannie and her powers. Following the events of book 1, the group work to find Emma’s body and use Frannie’s powers to bring her back to life. However, there are definitely some unintended consequences that leave room for more adventures for these plucky kids. The cident, a Fae creature that enhances magic is a delightful addition and the children show great responsibility learning about it and setting up a safe environment for it. We learn about the animosity between necromancers and vampires and especially the impact of that on Frannie’s family. Chloe is still struggling with her feelings about hunters and how it affects her friendship with Hayden. Emma is having struggles of her own after 100 years trapped as a ghost. This is a fun story aimed at middle grade readers but charming enough to appeal to older fans of the Life After Magic books. There are hints that the fairy godmothers from the Godmother Training Academy books might show up in the future. While prior knowledge of this shared universe isn’t necessary to enjoy this book, I would recommend reading Book 1, Geometry and Ghost Hunts, first.

When our heroine is asked to raise a long dead witch so that she can go back to school, she finds she wants to help. But things are never that simple and it turns out there is danger in the school. With the help of her friends, she sets out to untangle this devious tangle of events.
This is book two of the series, but it does just fine as a standalone.
This is a paranormal mystery story for young adults. The story is well written and easy to read with a bit of an accent on coming of age. The setting is well developed and lots of fun, with quite a bit of the usual magical academy tropes but with less of the romance bits that usually crop up. The characters are also really well done and generally just delightful. The story moves at a good pace and includes a nice mystery for our characters to tackle. Overall, this was a great entry in the series and I look forward to visiting once again.
Highly recommended.

Frannie is thrilled to be away from her overprotective mother and ready to dive into her studies at Rune Academy, where young necromancers like her are trained. But Frannie’s excitement is short-lived when she discovers a ghostly problem in the academy graveyard.
Frannie, Chloe and crew struggle and grow together in this sweet and fun series about a boarding school for young witches and other paranormal beings. This one carries on from the first book but can be read as a stand alone book too.
Each book is about 14-15 chapters, whish is a good length for the average YA reader. The characters are engaging and fun and would be a delight for the younger reader.
I really enjoyed this entry in the Sorcery After School series, it had that sequel feel that I was looking for and enjoyed how well it flowed with the world. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and how they felt like they belonged in this world. It never felt like I was reading something that couldn’t happen in this story. I enjoyed every part of the journey and hope there is more.

These adventures are fun to read! I enjoy The Academy from different age groups and different types of creatures! Frannie and her friends are going to have so much more fun with the two newcomers! I really liked the twist involving Will! What a fun book!
Book 2 in the series and I am loving the storyline. We see characters from other series and as always they do not disapoint. It ends on a cliffhanger so am awaiting book 3. Definitely a series that is a good read.
