A Shadow’s Touch was such a great read!!

The world was fantastic and I absolutely loved the author’s world building throughout the book.

Enemies to Lovers?! Come on!! It doesn’t get better than Erars and Natava! Light and dark coming together in some very spicy ways… *wink wink*

I loved the suspense, drama, twists and most of all the love story that’s developing.

The fantasy elements were second to none. It is clever, well thought out and so fascinating!!

I can’t wait to read book 2!!

Highly recommend this epic tale ;)

This book lacks the polish and sophistication of a book professionally published, but the writing is decent and the story is interesting, although a bit simplistic. I only found 2 typos through the whole book, which is impressive compared to many self-published books I’ve read. The writing style feels a bit juvenile and doesn’t really draw you into the world. The characters lack a depth of perspective, and it does get annoying to hear the same explanations for behaviors over and over. I finished this book because it did have promise from a world building and storyline perspective and it’s a quick read. I do think this author is a promising writer and has a lot of potential. I read this book with a mindset of overlooking the immature writing and focus on seeing where the story goes. It does get a fraction better as the book progresses.

The romance between the two characters also was a bit lacking. Again, I was able to tell what the author was trying to convey, it just wasn’t done in a skillful manner and could have had so much more depth. No slow burn in this book. The romance and the spice all felt a bit hurried.

The cliffhanger didn’t leave me clamoring for the next book, but I’ll probably pick it up and see how it goes.

Fantastic slow burn

A really wonderful read. It's an epic slow-burn that sees the big baddie turn to the light.

Erars is a shadow daddy who wants to open the veil to let all the beasties from the shadow world into Earth as his minions. To do that, he needed a light.

He uses the coronation of our wonderful FMC to sneak into the Light Kingdom to kidnap a young child.

However, his shadow daddy foes have beaten him to it. They tear the veil during the coronation, leading Natava to run to help her people, using her power to prevent as much destruction as possible

But this leads to Erars being able to kidnap Natava, newly crowned Queen.

Erars and natava are clearly destined to be together, the way their power enhances around each other. Natava has been locked in a mental cage her whole life, and Erars does everything he can to help her break out of it.

I enjoyed how her Knight owain turned on her the instance she was close to another man, letting his feelings overtake his job and his friendship. I hope he dies in the sequel.

The foe shadow daddies break open the veil before Erars and Natava can stop them. But Massana, the queen before Natava, sacrifices herself to close it. But soon after, a shadow still escapes...

The ending brought more questions than answers and settled on a cliffhanger of whether or not Natava's grandmother is the shadow that escaped and, more importantly, if she is evil.

DNF 70% What on earth have I just wasted a few hours reading? I was ready to give up much, much earlier because I couldn’t stand the FMC. I took a break to read some reviews, and someone mentioned she was only like that in the beginning. So I kept reading, and she did quickly become more tolerable.

However.

For the most part, I don’t like the writing style. It does not flow nicely.

Second, the enemies to lovers aspect. Oh boy. Definitely enemies, I mean the MMC has kidnapped the queen. I was actually enjoying the slow burn relationship building. There was no insta lust and that alone was refreshing. It was going decently until about 60%. It went from enemies to having sex in a creepy forest in the blink of an eye. Literally out of nowhere. Like the author got impatient and just decided to get it over with.

I didn’t really care when the story shifted to what the other characters were doing. And by the time I decided to stop reading, I accepted I wasn’t into the plot. At all.

I really don’t recommend this book. There are better ones out there.

One horse
Forced Proximity
Forbidden love
Dark vs Light
Magic, Royalty, and Shadow creatures

This book was such a fun read, I couldn’t put it down!! At first, I thought Natava seemed childish and I wouldn’t care for her, but she only acts that way in the beginning because she doesn’t want to be Queen.

My favorite trope ever is when the villain gets the girl, so as soon as Erars kidnapped Natava, I was hooked! 😂 Even though he's definitely still not a good guy, you can't help but love him. He helped Natava realize that she's been letting everyone control her, and as Queen, she doesn’t need to. The tension is *chef's kiss.*

This was a book that had me reaching for the next one as soon as I finished it, definitely recommend.

~Dark vs Light! Who is really the bad guys here? This book takes you to an adventure in order to find out who opened the veil? So let the mystery begin… There’s a new queen who does not want to be queen! A dark lord who wants to be king and be the main one to open the veil! Yeah, this book has you on a crazy roller-caster. Forbidden love, forced proximity, shadow creatures, magic and so much more. It starts as a slow burn but it eventually starts to get more interesting. Natava’s FMC journey will sure make you wonder where her destiny is taking care. Oh yes it also ends in a cliffhanger…

This book was phenomenal, I didn't want to put it down. The writing was on point, the flow was exceptional, and the characters were written well. Initially I didn't feel a lot of character development, but that changed towards the end. The MFC and MMC both had qualities in them that were initially reflected in their counterparts; I enjoyed how the MFC battled with herself, and vice versa for the MMC (I don't want to spoil anything by giving too much away, hopefully if readers choose to give this book a chance, and if you love fantasy and romance, you will), you will understand what I mean. I cannot wait for book 2!

The World Isn’t Just Light and Dark

What an adventure! This is such a well written story that captivates the moment you start reading. It’s the story of Natava and how she gradually accepts that she WILL be Queen and everything that entails….until the unexpected happens and turns her world upside down. It’s the classic good and evil story but then the lines begin to blur and you never know what’s going to happen next. Forbidden love, shadow creatures, magic, Kings and Queens, this story has it all.

This book starts slow, but once you get to know the characters, it's an adventurous and well-written story. Natava's journey from reluctant to accepting her role as queen is captivating, especially when unexpected events shake up her world. It's a mix of forbidden love, shadow creatures, magic, and royalty.
I was given this book as a ARC for review, but the opinion is my own. I also have to add that I am diving right into book 2!

The concept is good.

The idea is good and interesting, but I think the execution could've been better.
I think the author wanted to write in omniscient pov, but it felt like head hopping, and it made me frustrated.
I couldn’t get attached to the characters.
The MMC is always chuckling or laughing.
The first sex scene made me feel weird - she hates him, but they have sex out of nowhere and in a haste. Afterward, she regrets it.
