The book “Common misconception about Islam” is a scholarly and well-written piece for recognition and understanding of the common misconceptions about Islam through juridical, Quran and Hadith. Unlike the standard formatting, the author has not separated the book into chapters, but rather has used the numbering format. This book is separated into 11 parts; and each one discusses a separate issue.
The first part of this book is about Quran, its structure and thematic arrangements. It also reviews the verses, Motashabihat and Moqatiat; in which things are beyond human observation and comprehensions. He states how the thematic arrangement of the Quran is commonly misperceived. The second part is about the authenticity of the Sunnah and Hadith; and the interpretation of Quran. Furthermore, he enlists common misconceptions about deduction and Ijmah.
The third part of this book is Worships and Rituals. In this chapter, the author explains perceived fallacies about praying, sacrifice, alms giving (Zakat) and the worship. Part 4 discusses the political issues and misconceptions about them; the role of leadership and unity. This chapter provides a clear understanding of the political Islam in the modern era. Significantly, chapter five looks into the economic issues from the Islamic perspective; interest versus rents and the forbidings.

In part six, he talks about women and the controversial debates between religion and atheism. The author presents some of the most significant aspects of religion through the verses of Quran and Hadith. He further discusses the concept of inferiority and superiority. Chapter 7 is about the role of family in Islam. Common misconceptions about the husband permission, consent, divorce and Halalah are the main topics discussed in this section.
Parts 8,9,10 respectively discuss the issues of Punishment, Jihad, and Non-Muslims. These three chapters provide a number of common misconceptions about the testimony of women and men, the role of state in Jihad, the conditionality of the state’s authority, offensive vs. Defensive Jihad and the relations with Non-Muslims in the perspective of the Islamic studies. The final chapter is an overview of the miscellaneous and the misconceptions about the songs and music, Jesus returns and dream.
The author has tried to develop an adequate and consistent thesis on the issue of Common Misconceptions about Islam, where in some parts of the book he fails to accomplish that purp

Common questions about one's own faith circulate in the mind often, Shehzad Saleem clarifies the most common misconceptions with great references while going in-depth about the meaningfulness of relative surahs of the Quran. A good self-help read as well, especially for parents with growing children.
