I am dead. Dying. Deceased.
This trilogy is SO GOOD. And, let me make this perfectly clear:
DAVID DYLAN IS MINE.
Wanna talk about alpha?
Wanna discuss STEAM?
Wanna chat about chemistry and angst and total obsession?
Dylan is the answer to all of it. And more.
If you've been dying for what us OG's call "old school trilogies" that just consume you like FSOG, This Man, and Driven did back in the day, I present to you this trilogy.
I mean, I have this ... giddiness, this bubble inside me from just LIVING AND BREATHING in another world for the last day and a half that I almost can't stand it.
I really can't stand it when it occurs to me that Dylan isn't an actual human that's waiting for me in the bedroom. Because GAH!!!
Read it and ... swoon. Turn into a puddle. Melt (over and over and over again).

Audiobook Review

IMG-20210420-182001-489

This trilogy is something else...
I was sooooo invested in these characters lives, that I couldn't stop listening!

If you're used to my reviews, you know that for me, cheating should be present in trigger warnings, because I hate 😂😂.

BUT, this is a trilogy about an affair... So that's exactly what I was expecting.
What I didn't expect, was to fall utterly and completely in love with David, The homewrecker! 😂

Olivia is happily married to Bill (or so she thought) for 5 years. One night at a ballet's bar, her eyes catched the most handsome and intense man she had ever met, and David just knew... After only one look, that she was the one that he was waiting for his whole life.
Obviously he wasn't waiting for her in celibacy, but he also didn't expected that she would have been already taken by another man.

Their love story isn't an easy one...
Quite the opposite actually.
It's real! So so so real, and raw, and intense and heartbreaking and sexy, and overwhelming and so fucking REAL!

Because it's not just an affair... It's a life already traced with someone else... a life that was suppose to move forward with someone else. And a life that starts to look like a prison... An obligation.

It's Olivia's fears and insecurities, her past and her present, her husband and her happiness in opposite sides.
But OMG, how David fights for her!!

He's my man! Period!
Possessive, intense, cocky, handsome and so in love with Olivia... He worshipped her!

I loved this trilogy and if you're in to one hell of a ride, I highly recommend it!

Andi Arndt is responsible for the narration on the Audiobook and I love it!

5* Agonizing Stars

This is my first introduction to Jessica Hawkins storytelling, and I loved every word written in this CityScape Affair Trilogy. This forbidden romance was a rollercoaster of angst and emotions. Olivia is as happily married as she wants to be but when she locks eyes with a gorgeous stranger at the ballet her whole world is about to erupt and unravel!

The drama that unfolds is sometimes hard to read, it felt real and raw. Olivia did grate on my nerves quite a bit with her constant insecurities and doubting what her future could be with the handsome, and possessive David, who worshipped her. He is one of my all-time favourite alpha males and sexy does not even being to describe how sensual and forbidden he is.

The chemistry between Olivia and David was off the charts steamy. They were made for each other. Their journey was a slow burn struggle, and I was routing for their happy ending with each page read.

If you are brave enough to venture into a forbidden, love triangle slow burn love saga, then I highly recommend this wonderful series.

I would really rate this book for David Dylan alone. He is one super possessive (a bit crazy and stalkerish), protective, growly alpha, and did I say crazy? :) I was highly entertained by him.
I really did not warm up to Olivia. For almost three books she was wishy-washy. I mean, make up your mind already. I could feel David's frustration. Funny thing is, even if he fought his attraction for Olivia at first, he really thought he was the better man for her.
Big warning. There is
The first book was really slow and did pick up in the second book.
What I like about this series, Olivia's husband's Bill wasn't a caricature evil. He definitely was not a perfect husband and was quite clueless (as are some guys), but I did feel sympathy for him which was why I kinda hated Olivia sometimes. I liked her best friend Gretchen and disliked her holier-than-thou other friend Lucy.
One saving grace for Olivia I'm glad she was honest when she told David .

All in all, I liked this series and it had me thinking about it throughout the day when I wasn't reading it.

Steam factor: Hot!

Too selfish of a heroine

I struggled to finish this. I eventually skipped way ahead and just skimmed the final few chapters . I didn't miss anything. Olivia only ever thinks of herself and is constantly pulling away and sabatoging her relationships. I have no clue, other than skin deep beauty, what David or Bill saw in her. David is awesome. Bill isn't bad either, and yet he's made out to be a villain simply because Olivia never communicated with him and thereby ruined her own marriage. Oh, and she had an affair. Yet Bill is the bad guy? No. He could have at least been made out to be a decent guy who also deserved love, but the author made him sound hideous. Two thumbs down for sure.

OMG!!!!!! I READ ONE OF THE BEST TRILOGIES EVER IN 2021. OMG!!!! I am completely smitten. I am completely emotional. I am completely captured. I am completely filled with all the butterflies, rainbows and happiness in my stomach. What a read!!!! Beautiful. Sexy. Sensual. Drama. Angst. Emotions. All the effing emotions that cut me open. My gosh. The Cityscape Affair is brilliant. The romance so heartburning and smoldering. Every single page was so sublime and perfect. I spent the whole week reading this trilogy and I was completely swept away in such a beautiful romance with all the heartache, drama, swoon worthy moments and all the love.

TWO WORDS...DAVID DYLAN!!!!!!!!! I will go to war for David Dylan. I will fight for David Dylan. I will give my life to him if he asked. Haha. Man, David Dylan is the alpha of alphas. I freaking loved him as a hero. Possessive. Protective. Dominant. Rich. He was everything an alpha male hero is supposed. I loved Olivia as a heroine. Together the two created magic.

The Cityscape Affair is my first read from Jessica Hawkins and I am a fan. I can't wait to read all her books. I want to read them all.

This was my fifth or sixth time reading this series and honestly it never gets old. You know how sometimes they ask a hypothetical question such as if you could just read one book series for the rest of your life, which one would it be? This would be my answer - The Cityscape. It is emotional, it is daring, it is mature...it's heartbreaking and yet uplifting all at once. Olivia and David Dylan are my addiction that will never ever go away.

David Dylan is one of my favorite characters EVER. He is total alpha, he is successful and he is just mind-blowing. People call him womanizer, but he really is just looking for THE ONE. He isn't the kind of guy that is scared to love or to show emotions. He is intense, but pretty level-headed. David loves his friends and his family, he is a very loyal guy. He is fierce and strong when it comes to protecting what he loves the most and he isn't afraid to fight for it. The sad part is that he meets his THE ONE aka Olivia when she is already five years into her marriage. Olivia has lots of demons and a troubled past. The expectations that society is throwing at her are pressuring her into things she might not even want. She lives a live she is not sure she wants.

They meeting is like a crash, a bang - a fate meant to happen. From there on, it's hundreds of emotionally-charged pages and months of fighting feelings. The story is heart-breaking because as a reader, you just KNOW they are meant to be together. It's not the kind of love triangle where you love all three characters, not at all. It's not the kind of story where you can't decide which guy you want her to end up with. This is a story of true love and love at first sight that is just stronger than any paper or promise before.

To say I love this series to the moon and back wouldn't even come close to explaining what I feel for this series. I'll forever worship Jessica for writing David Dylan and this story.

FIVE HUGE GIGANTIC STARS!

I'm such a sucker for these novels. Everything began with the Avoiding series, continued with Kellan Kyle and look at me now. Finishing the Citiscape series, without a clear image of the two main characters (Olivia and David) in my head.

I don't know what to say. Overall I'm giving this series a 3 star rating. I will state it over and over again if I have two, but from my POV, protraying weak, spineless and undecided characters is a no-go. Olivia was all of this and more and all her insecurities cast a shadow over the entire plot. Not to mention the lenght of the third book.

It was overall a pleasant read, with ups and downs and a couple! Of funny sequences. Mostly coming from Gretchen and Brian. I'm still in the dark as to WHY in the hell David put up with everything, even giving up kids. Romanticize love and the idea of love all you want, I still think that even after everything she gave up for him it's still not enough for what he had to compromise. But some will say love is like that, right?

I have a nagging feeling at the back of my mind which tells me that I should just come out and say it. Bill and Olivia deserved each other. And all the things that lead to her divorcing him, is still not convincing. Why do all the bitches get all the good stuff? Just sayin'...

This series was unlike anything I have obsessed over in forever.

DAVID. THIS MAN. If you are into possessive, delicious men, that suck you in with the passion they consume, this series is for you.

If you aren’t into cheating books, then this is not for you. I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into, I am just glad I got into it and now I cant think of anything else. Olivia and David bring the passion. Angst, drama, love. Gah, I cant begin to explain how amazing each book was.

The romance. The feels. The gut wrenching pain. Each book brought so many different layers and I’m so happy I got to experience this love.

MUST MUST READ.

Jessica again shows what an unbelievable romance
author she is.

I cant wait to reread this love again and again. Forever favorite.

So this is my first Jessica Hawkins series/books I’ve ever read of hers and I’m impressed with her already plus I was recommended I read her earlier books and so glad I did.

I for one don’t know what it’s like to be married but I know what it’s like when the person you love and trusted cheats on you. I know I was itching to write my own thoughts about this series and wanting to bitch and moan and whine like how cheating is not acceptable (cause it isn’t) but in all honesty, the only saving grace for this series was David Dylan, hands down I swooned I cried and I wished for him to dump Olivia at times but his emotions had me rooting for him all the way.

“We’ll not only make it through this, but we’ll come out better for it. We have something strong, baby. Stronger than all the bullshit.” - David

But I’m going to go in and say that Olivia yes I didn’t pity who as a character but I felt for her when her emotions appeared but then I was put off so much about her forth and back feelings toward David and Bill that I actually cussed at my Kindle. I don’t know if the epilogue actually made me finally accept her, but just her character made me realise that in order for you to be happy you have to know what you want and to let go and feel cause David was fighting from beginning to end.

“Can love alone overcome everyone and everything—even ourselves?” - Olivia.

I don’t know but I think it’s possible.

Wow, this is an amazing trilogy! Jessica Hawkins brought us through territory that a lot of people are uncomfortable with. Olivia appears to be happily married under David Dylan turns her world upside down. The chemistry between Olivia & David is off the charts! Even after finishing this trilogy, I wanted more of them! I highly suggest you listen to this audiobook, you will not regret it! The Queen, Andi Arndt does a spectacular job at narrating.

Oh. My. God.

I don't think I've been as affected by a series of books (besides Outlander) as I was with The Cityscape Series by Jessica Hawkins. I've read each book twice now, and itching to go back and read through for a third time. Why? Well, let me tell ya. Pour a glass of wine and listen up, because this is for sure one of the best new adult romances out there.

In Come Undone, we meet Olivia Germaine, a shy, beautiful and underappreciated editor, who is married to her jolly, friendly and completely safe husband, Bill. One night, at the opera, she locks eyes with a man across a crowded room (so cliche, but Hawkins makes it work AF) and she's changed. Viscerally, and forever. She realizes there is something else out there. Something she never dreamt or fathomed.

Throughout the series, much happens between Olivia and David (the man from across the room). I won't spoil it here. Suffice to say that it's one of the most moving, sexy and tortured love stories I've ever had the pleasure of reading about. Hawkins packs a significant punch with her storytelling, and it's not just sex - there is real emotional weight behind every word. I felt Olivia and David's longing for each other - their longing for that person who understands you, who gets you - guts and all.

Throughout it all, through David's yearning and Olivia's indecision and their insistent and passionate and painful connection - I couldn't help thinking of Adele's cover of Make You Feel My Love and those perfect lyrics ----

I know you haven't made your mind up yet
But I would never do you wrong
I've known it from the moment that we met
No doubt in my mind where you belong

I'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue
and I'd go crawling down the avenue
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

The storms are raging on the rolling sea
and on the highway of regret
the winds of change are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing like me yet

I could make you happy, make your dreams come true
nothing that I wouldn't do
go to the ends of the earth for you
to make you feel my love
to make you feel my love

It's just... them. Listen, and read and weep.

I honestly can't recommend this series enough. Lots of people hated it on GoodReads, but I think that's an instinctual hatred of cheating - which, don't let that dissuade you. Because let's face it, we don't always meet our soulmate at the right time. These books are so sexual, gorgeous, moving and intelligent. It would be a crime not to enjoy them and revel in Hawkins' assured, searing and powerful writing.

You won't be disappointed. Guaranteed.

Love Oliva and David so much these books are slow burn, angst, sexual tension Excellency. This is more than a cheating book, you see the growth of the relationship, and how David Is so in tune with Olivia while it takes her awhile to realize it's more than sexual chemistry what she feels for Him.

Torn between two men—no, between two lives. She’s married to a man she grew to love. He’s the eligible bachelor of Chicago who is looking for the “one”.

On the outside she appears perfect, but inside she’s alone and unseen. She chose safety with Bill. Bill her husband was the secure choice. He calms her. He allows her to keep her past buried. It’s a stable predictable life with Bill. For the last five years she was happy and content in her marriage until David Dylan. After meeting David she began to question the reasons why she chose Bill.
David wooed her with the heat of his eyes and the smooth timber of his words.
When Olivia was thirteen her parents divorced. It changed her perspective on marriage. Her parents divorce tainted the meaning of love and commitment.
After the divorce her relationship with her mother was strained. Olivia sided with her father.
Olivia is writing an article on Chicago’s Most Eligible Bachelors and Bachelorettes.’ It’s there most popular issue of the year. David Dylan has always ignored the request to be interviewed except now.
David is a successful architect. He’s waited all his life for the one. When he meets Olivia he’s smitten. The problem is she’s married, but that doesn’t stop his advances.
Jessica Hawkins found that one tantalizing draw readers look for to get hooked into reading a good book. That draw pulls at you from from all sides. It’s a deep dark craving. Jessica tapped into that inner coil of desire. Her words captured my attention from the first word. She had me at hello.
David’s attention and desire is an intense need readers look for in a connection that claims you. David is fantasy book boyfriend personified. Lusting after him is safe. Living vicariously through the pages of Olivia’s betrayal is truly delicious. He challenged her actions and thoughts unlike Bill.
Aren’t we all looking for the someone like this? A heated touch, a smoldering look, and a sparked connection.
Personally I think this is Jessica Hawkins best work to date. All her books are wickedly good. I’ve read every single one. But this one resonates more than any other. There’s just something special when a reader opens up the pages of a well written romance. I’m absolutely giddy with excitement knowing her words will stick like glue.
Jessica takes readers on a wild and intense ride of passion teetering the edge of crossing boundaries. It started as a push n’ pull until Olivia and David could no longer contain the sizzling heat of attraction.
Jessica pulls out all the stops with her words which are exquisitely tantalizing. They have you breathless for more. You’ll hungrily eat up the pages of her intoxicating words. I got chills so many times.
Jessica carefully selected the perfect words to draw readers from both sides. Playing devil’s advocate in this battle of torn hearts was convincing from both sides. Having friends like Gretchen and Lucy allowed readers the opportunity to provide ideas and views from different perspectives. It’s what true friendship is made up of.
I love the language with which Jessica speaks. I could feel the burning need from both David and Olivia, it was combustible. Having David locked into Olivia’s emotional needs was a highlight. Jessica focused on the way both men react to the emotional needs of Olivia. Bill is a straight shooter while David digs deep.
I felt a connection like no other. Wow! Such powerful words. It’s like being transported into Chicago and living within those walls. It’s like that saying, “if only these walls could talk”. In this case they really do. Jessica’s so convincing in her words she has me questioning my own relationship. I know David’s a fantasy, but damn he’s everything I desire. Who wouldn’t fall in love with this fictious character?
You know what’s better than reading the Cityscape series for the first time? Listening to it for the first time. Be still my heart. Andi Arndt is the Queen of romance with her sexy voice. Every romance book deserves a voice like Andi’s. Mixing illustrative words from Jessica and crisp precise sounds from Andi is a delicious combination.

Andi Arndt captures the essence of Jessica’s words with the seasoned skills of a professional. It’s the reason she’s well known in the industry and popular amongst romance readers. Listening to Andi bring this story to life is everything I hoped for. This is a revisit experience in the best possible way. Jessica’s words are intoxicating, filled with lust and heavy with desire.
It’s so easy to fall into the sounds of Andi’s voice as she performs both David and Olivia’s characters. It’s not everyday when a narrator be that a female or male who can exquisitely perform both voices as convincingly as Andi. Who needs a duet performance when Andi’s behind the wheel?
Come Undone: the beginning
Come Alive: taking risks
Come Together: tying up loose ends and conquering fears

It’s more than seduction. It’s drawing ones mind out of the fog sense of complacency. Jessica teeters the edge of forbidden wickedly. She has me craving all the wrong reasons for cheating. How can it be wrong when it feels so right?
Stories such as these bring about much debate. I love both the positive and negative comments this story produces. The battle is real. The feelings are strong. The pain is heartbreaking. The pleasure is addictive.

Bill’s character had an analytical perspective which formulated well as a lawyer. Jessica illustrated his logical sense with Olivia so convincingly. At times I almost forget I’m reading a fictional character because the way she writes her characters is so similar to real life individuals. It’s easy to connect and identify certain characteristics.
Jessica’s not afraid to go against the grain by offering another form of unconditional love.

Although this book does have a cheating partner in it, you realise early on why she does it. I'm not usually one that condones cheating but honestly in this case, I was actually rooting for the cheating couple. It's an easy story to follow. There is sadness, happy times, cheating but all good in the end.
