"Buckland brings his wonderful wisdom, insight, and experience together in this comprehensive guide for personal spirit communication."―Rosemary Ellen Guiley, author of The Encyclopedia of Ghosts and Spirits
Raymond Buckland was a highly influential figure in the development of modern Wicca and the occult in the United States. Born in London, he became interested in the supernatural at an early age and was initiated into the Gardnerian Wiccan tradition in 1963 by Monique Wilson, a high priestess appointed by Gerald Gardner. After emigrating to the U.S. in 1962, Buckland introduced Gardnerian Wicca to the country, founding its first coven in New York in 1964. He later developed his own tradition, Seax-Wica, inspired by Anglo-Saxon paganism, and published The Tree: Complete Book of Saxon Witchcraft to make it accessible to all. In 1968, he established the first Museum of Witchcraft and Magick in the U.S., which helped normalize and educate the public about Wicca. Over the course of his career, Buckland wrote more than sixty books on Wicca, divination, and the occult, including Witchcraft from the Inside and Buckland’s Complete Book of Witchcraft, both regarded as essential texts in Neopaganism. Throughout his life, Buckland remained a prolific teacher, writer, and practitioner. He continued to write and teach until his death in 2017, leaving behind a lasting legacy that shaped the spiritual practices of countless Wiccans and Pagans worldwide.
I liked it through and through except for the fact that any chance the author got, he took the opportunity to cut down Christianity. Why all the hate? D:
This book is pretty basic, and goes over various thought on spirit communication and things you can do to get started. This is suitable for the absolute beginner, but also has some clever tips and tricks for the regular practitioner, such as a handy simple pendulum diagram. A good range of divination techniques are covered, but it still is a bit of a yawn for the advanced practitioner.
This is an excellent book with good concise information for anyone wanting to learn how to work with spirit communication in a simple and matter of fact way. Oodles of divination tools to select and learn for personal mediumship.
This is one of those books you have to read again and again. Not because you didn't comprehend the book, because it was so interesting that you want to read it again.
This book was a good overview/starting point of ways to communicate with spirit on your own. Buckland doesn't cover all possibly methods, but I don't think that was his intention. He gives you a place to start.
Reviewer Alexandra Chauran says it best: this is basic, "lite" reading, really just a boring overview of some methods, with little substance. I found it irritating that the author took every opportunity to tout his other books, and I won't be reading any more of them.
It covers a broad spectrum of ways to communicate. Including several uses for the multiple tools of the trade (so to speak.) Some I've never heard of! I learned something new and it was all together enjoyable. His expertise speaks for itself.
This book covers a lot of ways to communicate with spirits. Because it covers so much and this book is only about 200 pages it didn't go into a lot of detail about each way to communicate. I guess I should have expected as much for the size. It just left me feeling disappointed.
This was an excellent introduction to spiritualism. The book is easy to understand but packed with information. I also loved all the historical fun facts that were included. I will definitely be revisiting when trying to talk to ghosts!
Probably a 3.5 star book to be fair. A lot of information is redundant and much of the techniques are covered only briefly. It’s an alright primer but there’s a bit of dated outlooks in here.
It was a pretty cool book, really....covered a lot of ways to connect with the spirits....but didn't get into a lot of detail about anything. A great overview.....he was surprisingly "light hearted" and humorous in his writing...and I enjoyed that. He didn't get real heavy and dark, just pretty Human in his approach to how a person can connect with Spirits in the afterlife....and your spirit guides in this life. I read this off an on for several weeks, it's not one I couldn't put down for a day or two.
