This was, by no exaggeration, among the best books I've ever read. It focuses mostly on Wilhelm and his brutal battles. Theresia comes into the picture slowly at first, and truly only near the end. Among the main characters there was not one I did not like. Thanks to that I enjoyed every paragraph of the story, regardless of whom it was about.
And lest I forget, this was one of the best romance stories I've ever read/watched.
my god. this story. if it’s even possible, i came out of this loving re:zero even more than i already have for years. i never knew i could love wilhelm so much. it makes me so sad thinking about what the future has in store for him. but this love story is beautiful. theresia and grimm you were made for me, i love them so so much they are everything to me. i cant wait to start EX 3. favorite quote: “‘do you love me?’ ‘cant you tell?’” and “i would have liked to tell you, at least once, before i lost my voice. i guess its a little late for that. thank you for that time. thanks to you, im here now.” favorite characters: grimm, theresia, wilhelm
As a standalone book, maybe I’d be rating it as 4stars. In the larger context of the main series, and just like on EX1, the book really shines at world building and filling in the story gaps missing from the main series.
This volume covers the earlier days of Whilhelm and how he came to know Theresa, the Sword saint.
I really enjoyed the pace, but I felt like there was enough material here to write a book twice as long without it turning boring.
great story, really strikes hard in the last few pages! it does leave some questions unanswered, however, although I expect some of those to come up elsewhere in the main series. overall, a highly enjoyable standalone story
Nice intro to the sword demon trilogy that shed's light on Wilhelm's back story and the prior sword saint before Reinhard in the main story. Second half was rly great and Wilhelm was on his sigma male grindset. (7)
It's the writing style for me. It just shuts me off. But anyway, I liked the first part, the last part, the middle part not so much. I feel the events are dragged for the sake of making this story longer.
While some of this story was shown in the anime, it was only one episode and much was left out. Not the most interesting story honestly, but it does give a lot of insight about the civil war and generally the past of the Kingdom.
