Held: Learning to Live in God's Grip

Rate this book
On November 16, 2010, Lee and Sandra’s lives changed with just a short sentence from a child psychologist, “We believe your son has autism.” In that moment, so much changed … but what didn’t change was that God still held the Peoples family, they were never out of His grip.

In this Bible study written for special-needs parents by special-needs parents, you will learn you are not alone. Even when life feels out of control, it will help you remember He is in control. You will learn there is a future hope we all can cling to. You will learn there are others out there, just like you, who need to be shown they are also in the grip of God.

Held: Learning to Live in God’s Grip is designed to be done alone, as a couple, or with a group. There are questions throughout each chapter that will help you think about the material and apply what you learn.

It is easy as a parent of a special needs child to feel like you are alone in the daily battles of life. But the truth of the matter is that this is simply not the case. You are held and loved by a God who always has your back.
Back in May of this year, I took part in an online Bible study for “Held: Learning to Live in God’s Grip,” a book written by Sandra Peoples, who is a pastor’s wife, the mother of a child with autism, and also grew up with a sister with Down Syndrome.
Reading this book gave me such reassurance. It is easy to wonder why your sweet child has to deal with special needs issues. But this book helped me to remember that not only am I not alone as a special needs parent, I am not alone because I have a Heavenly Father that is sustaining me and as the book is titled, is holding me.
The book touches on basic experiences that the author and her family have had, and also uses Scripture to back up her points. It also debunks the well-known catch phrase that God will never give you more than you can handle. The truth is He does just that, but the book reemphasizes the point that when we have no strength left, God is the strength we need in the difficult times of life.
If you are the beginning of your journey as a special-needs parent or have several years under your belt, this book is a great resource. It helps you remember that you are cherished, you are loved, and you are HELD by your Heavenly Father.

Hope and Peace and lots of tears!

This book was a much needed place to begin healing after all the trauma and emotional damage I experienced in the now 10 years of my micro preemies life. We were told on the day before he was born he would never survive 48 hours. BUT GOD!! I cannot thank my friend that helped encourage me and walk beside me through this book and now life in general as we now have hope and a goal! Thank you for publishing this wonderful book.

This is a short book that would be a great encouragement to parents with special needs children. Even though I wasn't the intended audience, it served to make me more aware of the challenges parents of special needs children face. Because if you aren't one, you can't fully understand but at least you can do better.

A Soul-encouraging read!

This title came up on my kindle as an advertisement when I boarded my plane and I clicked it. And I'm thankful for God's timing to read it! It's a quick read but strong with scripture and encouragement.
