Based on the obituaries that appear in every issue of The Week, this is a book that brings together the famous and infamous figures of our generation ranging from the world's influential leaders and thinkers of the day, such as Nelson Mandela, Steve Jobs, Margaret Thatcher and Sir Patrick Moore, to the more infamous and eccentric.
So this book is a collection of obituaries published in The Week and is subtitled “Everything you need to know about everyone who mattered”
They’re good obituaries for the most part, but does it tell me everything I need to know about these people? Not particularly. As for the everyone who mattered part? Well fewer than a third of the books subjects are women (sorry ladies, us blokes matter about 66% more), and most happen to be British people of a…fairer complexion.
I got through the book quickly, it was certainly an easy read but I’m sure there’s a more comprehensive and more balanced selection of obituaries/life summaries out there.
Good little book of obituaries from the late 90's to the mid 2010's. The great and the good as well as the less salubrious characters that have died in the recent past.
