What can I say, I love Trina! She starts out somewhat of an idealist young and in love, but soon learns the hard lessons of betrayal and abuse. Once her cup is overflowing, she gets the gumption to spill the sugar and throw out the cream and take care of herself and her son. On her journey, in attempts to get away and start a new life for her and her son, she encounters different individuals and learns new life lessons maturing from a naive scared girl into a woman to be reckoned with. This so far is one of my favorite shorts in the Heart of A Wolf Series and I certainly hope to come across Trina again to check in on how she is getting along. While this is a short novella and can be read as a standalone, it definitely is a complete story with a very satisfying resolution that leaves you wanting more.
I received this book from the author with a request for my honest review without any compensation whatsoever, other than the joy of reading a new book.

Escaping Dominance was one of my favorite stories of The Heart of a Wolf series by MaryLynn Bast.

Trina didn't have a great childhood, she lost her parents in a car accident when she was young and she was ''dumped'' into her uncle's family. Her aunt totally hates her and we will figured out why later in the story, but this new family didn't brought hope, joy and cheerful memories to Trina. Then, when she finally gets to shift as a werewolf, everything seems to fit Trina's wishes. Her new life sounds wonderful and everything is due to Dean, her best friend, who's also a werewolf.

But, (Oh yeah, there's a BUT!) one day, Dean, doesn't show up at their usual ''meeting'', doesn't call her back or answered her phone calls and Trina finds out that,... Well I won't tell you right away, because it's the main subject of this story!

I was on the edge of my seat while I was reading about Trina going through the whole story; I was sometimes afraid and preoccupied by Trina's welfare! The suspense was sometime unsustainable and I was wondering what would or could happen to her and what kind of life she can afford !?!

I liked the description of some particular scenes in this book, they were well written and give plenty of images and I like that from Ms. Bast.

* All these stupid rules in werewolves packs sometimes made me sick, and it's a good point because I love to read things that bothers me, that stir something deep inside of me and MaryLynn Bast succeeded in that category!

As the other books from this series, I recommend you Escaping Dominance for all this story brings to the entire series. Trina and Dean scenes were the best I read from this series!

This is a side-story/prequel to No Remorse by Marylynn Bast. If you are interested in reading No Remorse, you'll be glad you read Ms. Bast's Escaping Dominance.

In No Remorse the reader gets a crash landing in the brutality of the male dominated werewolf culture. You are also given a brief introduction to a woman on the run just as Amber is. Escaping Dominance is the story of that woman, Trina, and her little boy, Toby.

The men that are brutal won't hesitate to abuse and kill the women who cross them, but many fight that tradition by helping the victims escape and take them to rescue houses. Trina decides enough is enough as she has suffered for years under the brutal hand of the man who once claimed he loved her. For the safety of her son, she leaves and finds herself running for her very life.

Though this is a companion story to Ms. Bast's werewolf series, I found it to be much more. This is a story of a woman standing up for her life and that of her son. She is taught confidence to stand up to the abuse and finds a way for happiness to enter her life. This is a story of inspiration. Werewolf or not, this woman was once beaten down in spirit but the reader watches as she finds it again.

As I said, this was a wonderful story that I loved the best. Even if you are not a big paranormal fan, this story of survival will be enjoyable. Of a

I really love this series and this book was awesome
Mary Lynn Bast has a real way with words, able to drag you into her reality and make it seem so real
Trina and Amber become your friends and you feel as tho you are part of the story

I love that while the girls are strong, they are also weak and fragile and real!
