Three severed heads. Two worlds. One forbidden love.

Decapitated bodies seem to be following Special Agent Emma Last. First, it was the haunting appearance of the ghost of Ned, the late brother of Emma’s friend and colleague, who was beheaded in a car accident years ago. Now, D.C.’s Violent Crimes Unit has two more headless victims.

Or is it four?

Over two eerie nights, a crypt raider exchanged ancient skeletal skulls for the freshly severed heads of two unidentified men. Yet, the whereabouts of their bodies and the stolen bones remain shrouded in mystery.

The why behind the seemingly ritualist crimes is even more perplexing. The victims have nothing in common other than age and orientation. But without their bodies, the cause of their deaths remains elusive.

Could Emma and her team be dealing with some type of dark occult practice? More importantly, is there a method to the killer’s madness? The clock is ticking. And if bad things come in threes, Emma and the team only have one more day to decipher the mind of a killer before they strike again.

Last Three, the third book in the gripping new FBI series by bestselling author Mary Stone, reveals a horrifying glimpse into a killer’s mind...and the fine line between love insanity, and the darkest corners of the human psyche.

LAST BREATH is the first installment in Mary Stones newest series, the Emma Last FBI Mystery Series. This first book is a great beginning to the new series. Like everything from Mary Stone, this is a page turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Once you start reading, make sure you have plenty of time to get lost in this FBI Thriller.

Emma Last finally gets her own FBI Team in D.C. Fans will remember Emma from her temp assignment with the Virginia FBI in Winter Black and Autumn's series. Winter had visions and Autumn read emotions and for the last ten years Emma has been seeing ghosts, even talking to some. She's  trying to understand the why she sees them and what they want as they try to help with the murders in this story.

The Ruby Red Spectacle Circus has experienced three performers dying in  suspicious manners and the LEOs have asked for help from the FBI. Special Agent Emma Last, and her new team have been assigned this troubling, clueless case.  As the secrets of the circus are exposed, the killer and motive remain hidden behind the tent curtain - until you get a surprising look as the curtain is whipped open.

As I said, a great start to Emma Last's FBI career and series. Recommended to thrillers readers.

I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more in this series.

Off with their Heads

Special Agent Emma Last decides to seek out a psychic, Marigold, hoping to get information that will help her deal with her ghost seeing ability. Is the psychic the real deal or a fake? Does she help Emma?

SSA Jacinda Hollingsworth has been given another weird case for the Violent Crimes Unit to handle. It appears there is a grave robber and murderer on the loose. Heads of buried bodies are being replaced with the heads of murder victims. Poor Emma can’t seem to get out of seeing headless ghosts. She is still seeing Ned Logan, Mia’s brother who was beheaded in a car accident.

Emma along with Mia, Vance, Denae and Leo will be busy trying to find the person responsible for killing and beheading victims. The heads of the victims are left in place of the heads that were on the buried bodies. Is there a ritual involved? What connects the victims? Why are the heads being replaced? Will they be able to catch the person before they kill again.

Last Three is full of suspense, horror, drama, grief, and craziness. The ending leaves you wanting the next book now. How will Emma deal with Ned Logan? Guess I have to wait for book four to find out.

Don't Lose Your Head

This book is okay. It drags. Emma has mediumistic abilities does that both help and hinder her progress as an FBI agent. She and her team are called to investigate the troubling beheadings of men. The killer removes the heads from select corpses and replaced them with those from recent kills. Will Emma be able to stop the murders and desecrations?

This book was not very sus polo ended up in terms of either the mystery or psychic elements. Also annoying were the unprofessional romantic pairings of members of the team. Distracting, annoying and not smart. The killer was more troubled than diabolical. Overall a disappiintment.

Emma Last and her FBI cohorts really have their work cut out in this third novel in the Emma Last series. Graves are being desecrated, men are being killed and heads are missing. The race is on as beheading and grave robbing continue to occur. Oh, and Emma is still seeing ghost but not all of them are friendly. I enjoy the pace of the story and characters. Still not so sure about the seeing ghost aspect of things. Overall a well written story with solid characters. I received this novel as an ARC and all thoughts are my own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grief can make you really crazy!

This story is somewhat intertwined with occult, ghosts, and ghoulish murders. After the loss of her husband a woman decides to try to bring him back. And the avenue she chooses is based on some crazy belief that she uncovered. She is beyond crazy! The plot is not bad, but this is not my favorite series that Mary has written. Just be prepared for some really bizarre behavior. I think the ending is the big-ticket item and will keep you coming back to find out what really happened to Mia's brother.

Mary’s one of the best thrillers so far. This series grew on me. Our witty Emma is going against a serial killer, who cuts the men’s head and replaces them with the buried ones in crypts they broke in. It’s brutal and no clues are left behind. Emma hopes the ghosts will help but the opposite happens. Only ghost of Ned appears , but he is not talking. This case will drive you nuts and you will finish reading in one sitting. And yes there is very surprising unexpected cliffhanger at the end. I need the next book yesterday.

Oh it is getting good! Emma and the team are all starting to gel and we can see the trust growing with each day/interaction. I am not the biggest fan of the pairing with Leo and Danae, but I do like Mia and Vance. The case is on the fair side of crazy, but is told and executed vividly and with great detail. The ending and its connection to the shared dreams and ghosts was mouth dropping good entertainment. I enjoyed the addition of Marigold and am very excited to see what is in store for the team, Emma re Neds announcement, Emma and Leo re shared dreams and of course the Other as a whole!

Emma Last and her fellow agents sure do run into some real doozies!
Mausoleums are being broken into, and certain bodies are being used for a weird, unknown reason. Heads from different bodies are placed on them.
This is one of the weirder plots, and unfortunately, too believable.
Emma finally gets a question answered, but dang, that led to a bit of a cliffhanger ending.
All in all, it's another excellent story to keep us thoroughly occupied.

Who's Counting? I do enjoy Author Mary Stones books and The Last Three with SA Emma Last I could not put down. I enjoy books that make you feel as involved as Mary Stones do.
Emma is trying to solve the mystery of headless corpse and corpseless heads. It's all a tragic plan to help the newest murderer to solve her own problem. If you would like to know, who, what, when, where and how, you need to get a hold of this book and you will find it's the book you've been searching for.

2.5– I needed some who done it murder to cleanse my palette in between fantasy but still none of them have lived up to the first one in this series. I didn’t like knowing who the unsub was from the beginning of the book it made it way harder for me to stay engaged all the way through and we know the vanilla characters were not going to keep me awake lol. First one is still my fave but I will probably still read the next one for when my brain needs a break to keep my fantasy worlds straight.

Good but very descriptive.

These books remind me of the tv show "Criminal Minds". They are good, but can get very suspenseful. It's very well written. With each book, you are finding out more and more about the team. This is an interesting series and I really like the author. I started with Winter Black series. Then Autumn's series. Now I'm looking forward to reading all in this series too! Keep up the good work!

Spirit, body, soul - three words that will evoke terror. Someone is breaking into mausoleum’s, taking the head off a dead body and replacing with a fresh head. Why and who? Another case for our ghost girl Emma & the VCU. Will they be able to stop this killer in time and will Emma have any ghosts to help? Stay tuned.

Such a bizarre case, beheadings with the heads of newly murdered switched to the body of a previous buried person in crypts. How is this possible & why? Emma & her team are called in to solve this haunting crime. Emma starts to see the ghost of her partners dead brother, is he giving clues & why? This was a real page turner that won’t disappoint!

Yikes, the heads of corpse’ are being removed, and replaced with the head of a more recent murdered persont. This story jumps right in with this very strange action. What could possibly be going on? Emma and her team fare really running into dead ends . There seems to no connection, until it’s discovered that Renata is not dead. Pieces begin to fit together…fantastic read!

SA Emma Last and her FBI teammates find themselves with a case that is strange, sick, twisted and totally enjoyable for the reader. In the Last Three we have a female serial killer and she has some mad skills.
Mary Stone’s creativity knows no bounds. She continues too keep the thrills coming.

heartbreaking tale of delusion

Desecration of graves and gruesome dismemberments hallmark this tale of madness and ghosts.

The specter of Mia’s brother is dogging Emma, while Emma has seemingly found an ally by consulting a woman in touch with the “other side”; Leo and Emma are both bedeviled by imagery of a wolf.

Another page turner

This series is just getting better. There is so much going on not just with Emma, but the whole team plays a really major part. So many twists and turns, once you start reading you can't put the book away. Another brilliant series to add to the collection. Now we have to wait for the next book. Well done Mary Stone, what a talent you have.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT

A great book of mysterious things in the ghosts and spirits world. It is so well written that if you don’t believe in ghosts your beliefs might just waver before you finish. Mrs Stone has great imagination. If you like this kind of mystery you’ll love her books. Read one and you’re addicted.

The ghosts are driving Emma crazy!

Emma can’t tell anyone from her unit that she can see ghosts. Now Mia’s brother keeps showing up. As though she doesn’t have enough on her hands with half the crew down with a virus when they have a three time murderer on their hands. What is she going to do?

Emma seeks help to try and understand why ghosts keep coming to her. Meanwhile, the team has a new case where someone is grave robbing crypts for some very odd reason. Something the team needs to figure out. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Another case where Emma is not seeing ghosts to help solve the case. The team is trying to solve a murder case as well as a grave robbing case.
Finding the prep is hard for her team. Emma is still 👀Miss brother and he has a message. TBC......

This is the third book in this series. The plot is good, if not a bit gruesome. How can you have a serial killer without gruesome? I like the supernatural/occult angle. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. Big unexpected cliff hanger ending. Leaves you wanting more. Mary Stone at her best!

Good book

I love this series even though strange at time with the supernatural. I believe in ghost and that things exist, so these books are very interesting. Emma is seeing ghost and at times they help her cases. Mary writes wonderfully and can't wait for next book.
