Book 2 - A New Adult Dark Romance

CAOIMHE
My secrets are out, my lies uncovered. He knows who I am, and I know of his past history too. But the things he's begun showing me about myself?

I couldn't even have begun to imagine that a world like this existed - a world where it's okay to give in to your darkest desires and feel all the feels you've been taught were so wrong for so long.

He's still holding back though, I can feel it. But I'm breaking him. The cold caged emotions that he's kept hidden for so long are slowly seeping out. I know there's a heart in there; someone desperate to be wanted, to be needed... To be loved.

But it's okay, perché lo amo così tanto...

LOCKEY
I can feel my walls cracking, breaking more every day. This beautiful marble statue, devoid of feelings - she's intent on jackhammering her way in. But I can't let her, there's too much at stake.

I've too many spiderwebs, trails of deceit; the ground I walk on is shaking more with every step. One wrong move and it might all come tumbling down. But I've worked too hard to cause a landslide now, so I will fight with every part of me to hide the bitter truth of my life.

I cannot allow my dirty angel to fall too far.

Chained is book 2 in this series and such a captivating and interesting read. Much like Caoimhe, I felt totally manipulated by Lockey at times and totally engrossed in these pages (and getting annoyed at real life getting in the way of my reading time 🙄).

This isn't your average dark and delicious romance. There are so many layers being exposed. From trauma in Lockey's childhood, to how he lives his life now. How he has adapted his anguish and pain into his everyday and working lifestyle. Even though he is trapped in that lifestyle in some ways, due to the necessity of the danger it places him in with his employers, if he doesn't bend to their will. But also when he admits to himself how much Caoimhe means to him, with wanting to continue to manipulate her into staying, but also the need to keep her safe.

I have thought about the characters in this book when I haven't been reading and look forward to what Book 3, Tied, has in store and how Caoimhe will attempt to further steer through Lockey's calculating ways. But also the realization around herself and how she engineered their situation and what details she hid when they first met.

Straight of the bat the plot is a really good one and we’ll written and so captivating that you don’t wanna put it down. A lot is happening in this one compared to the first book and there where definitely parts where I gasped or was like omg.

I love how lauchlan help caoimhe learn and understand different things to chapter 28 I just love how it show’s development and them trying to understand each other.

I absolutely adore that each book so far has a playlist in the beginning I’m always a sucker for book with playlists and the chapter titles I also love because it’s different to the usual chapter 1 and so on. To me it show’s uniqueness and creativity

This is a much more nuanced and layered book in comparison to book one. I think we delve headlong into Lockeys manipulative ways and even as a reader, I found myself being drawn in and being manipulated by him. Intensely cleverly written, because it certainly does work and you feel yourself having to shake off his intentions every now and again.

We watch Caoimhe try to break through Lockeys walls and to navigate herself through his manipulations and selfish games. Sometimes feeling frustrated as she continually makes excuses for him, and others feeling vindicated as she starts to stand up for herself.

There’s a lot of twists and turns through their relationship and their world in this one and I powered through the entire thing in a day or so. Again, it’s very different to other books in the same genre, and the author has a style uniquely her own. Definitely worth reading.
