About the author

Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.

As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

Is it the writers or are the Japanese people have a great sense of humor in general?
The comedy is just next level, I am laughing all the time, or tearing up with emotional scenes and the experience overall is incredible satisfaction that I literally just finish each volume and five star it, I can't see anything bad, and even though I am rating 4 stars this time I still don't see anything bad.

I don't remember Arlong taking out his teeth from the anime at all, it was a surprise for me.
I also like the new one page story series about Koby and Helempo.

Usopp made me cry, he is the true underdog story here, he is the true hero story.
If you are strong and you choose to do something heroic knowing you will come out okay, it's still heroic but you were built for it.
Usopp isn't like these monsters Luffy, Sanji and Zoro, he is a very normal very physically humble guy, but he chooses to fight, even though every fiber of his being was telling him not to.
The first two fights were amazing, the team is always fighting with a handicap so far, I don't mind it as it will explain how tough they actually are in later tougher fights.
Can we cook the Fishmen now?

"You made our navigator cry!" This is all the reason Luffy needs to pick a fight with the biggest threat in the East Blue! The fight begins in this thrilling volume, focusing on the individual fights of Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji. Each character gets their time in the spotlight.

Zoro's fight with Hachi shows how determined and strong the three style swordsman is. Sanji's fight with the Fishman Karate master, Kuroobi, lets the suave cook have a suspenseful battle under water. The final fight of the three, Usopp, is filled with laughs. The brutal nature of his opponent, Choo, leaves the liar bloody, but his determination serves a satisfying conclusion.

As the volume continues, Luffy finds himself in a sticky predicament. Arlong shows he does not care to play dirty, fully taking advantage of Luffy's weaknesses. After a nail biting wait for the Straw Hat captain, Luffy jumps in for a final showdown with the shark tooth warlord.

Volume 10 is a great action oriented installment. It shines the spotlight on Luffy's crew and the hardships they take in these fights. Seeing what they'll go through for a friend just gives these characters a real charm. By the end youll be scurrying to your book store for volume 11 and the conclusion to Arlong Park!

Luffy vs Arlong is cool as hell, but the other fights are far less notable. There is a trend in the first arcs where Luffy gets the cool fight and everybody else just gets the goofy sidekicks. I'm not a huge fan of that. Main character or not, he can't be the only one who has the decent fights.

El discurso de Luffy y lo de sus nakamas, el como Usopp se enfrentó al gyojin está fue la primera y única vez que Usopp me cayó bien. Debió haber Sido un de acá hacia arriba pero bueno 🤷🏻‍♀️
Y que decir de las peleas de Sanji y Zoro 😍 son tan secos.

Yeah, it took me 20 years and 10 volumes and I'm officially in love! Wow, so clever and charming and you can't but love Luffy! What a great protagonist, what a force of nature and of course all the side characters and his crew are great! On the other hand I'm happy that I waited this long because I don't need to wait for the next volume.

A heavy action-packed volume filled with insane special moves by Luffy and his crew against Arlong and his crew. Some of them get a decent character development that leaves you proud of where they're at now in their pirate lives.

The fight doesn't end here and continues in the next volume, which is honestly, again, a very strange way to cut an arc.

Pues teniendo en cuenta que parece que en one piece me gustan más los volúmenes de Lore que de pelea, me ha gustado mucho como en este ha habido tanta tensión. Con otros enemigos se hacía relativamente fácil ganar las peleas, pero con Arlong parece que está costando, cosa que me gusta porque me parece mucho más emocionante.

Me hace mucha gracia la personalidad de Sanji.

Y no quiero meterme en mi Usopp-hater arc. Pero menos mal q se ha dado cuenta de lo patetico que es. Literalmente lleva mintiendo toda su vida sobre cosas que no ha hecho(con un buen propósito, sí, pero él mismo se creía sus propias mentiras y se vanagloriaba de ellas), y cuando llega la oportunidad se raja y es un gallina literal. Si piensa ir con esa actitud a buscar el One Piece… vamos mal😅

Usopp me da vibes del típico compañero random de universidad que no hace su parte en el trabajo en grupo.

Y poco más que decir. I 💝 Roronoa Zoro. Y me encanta la actitud de Luffy. Es la actitud de un verdadero líder. Un líder sabe que él solo no es nadie, y Luffy piensa eso de sus Nakamas. Adoro su mentalidad y la confianza tan grande que tiene en él mismo y en sus compañeros.
Que ganas de seguir avanzando y que sean todos amiguis.

brought this to work so i have something to read until rose brings my library book home tonight. honestly this was much more fun than i really expected it to be! i think each individual separate fight was a little unnecessary -- i liked the combining of zoro & sanji's in the l.a. -- but they were fun enough i found i didn't actually mind them. i always love to watch zoro be normal about luffy. genuinely what kept this from being the first 4-star one piece volume is the nonsense w luffy trapped at the bottom of the ocean bc his feet ended up in the concrete. that was just stupid imo. shoutout to nojiko and genzo for helping him out but that entire bit should have been cut. thank you, l.a. so yeah. pretty good, just [insert nature of the genre complaint here], as usual. i do love luffy sooooo much though. that's my boy
