I did not expect a bird book to make me laugh so hard. My husband certainly did not expect me to interrupt his gaming with incessant bird facts, but by the time we got to the woodcocks (aka timberdoodles) we were both cracking up. He provided a nice riff track to Florida's Fabulous Birds including, "Why are grackles racist hos?" And "Damn, shrikes are metal!"

Look, I'm not a birder. I just recently read Jenny O'Dell's How to Do Nothing and she talks about how birdwatching made her feel more connected to her community, so I thought I'd learn more about Florida birds. This is a great introductory guide that provides fun facts and some disambiguating identifiers for bird noobs. Beautiful photography throughout. However, I was big sad that it only covered land birds. I will definitely be grabbing the water bird volume as well.

This is one of the best wild-life reference books I've read so far. And of course, I'd like to read more, if I can only stumble upon them. Hopefully, I will.
