Stasi Eldredge loves writing and speaking to women about the goodness of God. She spent her childhood years in Prairie Village, Kansas, for which she is truly grateful. Her family moved to southern California back in the really bad smog days when she was ten. She loved theater and acting and took a partiality to her now-husband, John, when they were friends in high school. Stasi earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology from San Diego State University, which she attended primarily because it was close to the beach. She became a Christian her junior year in college and dove into the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. After graduating, Stasi joined Youth for Christ, heading up a ministry to pregnant teenagers and teen mothers. She has been active in ministry ever since, including theater ministry, crisis pregnancy center ministry, women’s ministry, and children’s ministry. The Eldredge family moved to Colorado in 1991.
Stasi loves the joy and freedom that comes from knowing the passionate, stunning love of Jesus Christ and lives to see others come to know him more deeply. She loves worship music, time to bake, celebrating life, getting lost in a good novel, baths, walking in the woods, hearing her sons' laughter, the sound of wind in the trees, a good cup of coffee, the smell of the earth after it rains, a powerful turn of phrase, animals in the wild, gardens, freshly mowed grass, family traditions, cherished friendships, the Tetons, rivers, mountain lakes, the grace and beauty of horses, the affection of her dog, and most of all, her family and her God.
This review is based on the DVD that goes with this journal. Heart of a Philanthropist blog would like to thank Family Christian for gifting us a copy of Stasi Eldredge's Becoming Myself: Embracing God's Dream of You DVD in exchange for an honest review.
As I sat and watched Stasi Eldredge speak, I felt like I was in her home sitting with friends and discussing God's Word. She possesses a unique quality to draw the listener in and to hang on every word she says. Stasi is John Eldredge's wife (in case you've heard of him). She brings her husband into the conversation a few times. I didn't realize who she was until she mentioned her husband.
Her main gyst is that we need to become our unique selves, but is that possible? Not without seeing the love God has for us as individuals. When we learn to love Him more freely, we will see ourselves differently and will become that person we want to become. She explains that we will all have a bit (or a lot) of our mothers in ourselves. There is nothing wrong with that, but if it is what hinders us, then we can turn that over to God, and He can change our lives for the better. So many women were berated as children, possibly even abused, and this hinders the unique self.
Stasi explains that we as Christian women all too often try to go the road alone, but we need Christian women in our paths to forge bonds with and to be accountable to (Kinda Jesus with skin on).
Stasi's DVD is very lighthearted at the beginning. She cracks jokes when appropriate, and feeds us meat and potatoes in the middle. You will learn about yourself, and hopefully heal and grow by the time you are done with the Becoming Myself series. I am recommending it to our lady's pastor for a small Bible study.

Earlier I shared the book Becoming Myself by Stasi Eldredge, and now I am sharing about the eight session study guide. This book is the companion and study guide to the material mentioned previously. Now it is time to apply what you have learned! Synopsis: There are eight sessions that correspond to the chapters in the book. There are instructions at the beginning of the sessions to let you know which chapters in the book to follow. She asks questions included with scripture. Ultimately asking how this impacts you? Your relationship with God? How do we move forward? My Thoughts: I love bible studies that create great stimulating challenge for us readers. I feel sometimes that I was spoiled by the homework from Beth Moore. Stasi has less homework so if you aren’t a fan of lots of work then this study guide is for you! I think the study has a great structure and explores the topic well! I am becoming a fan of Stasi’s writing which I have heard about for years, but never read. I look forward to her next book!
