This is a collection of roughly chronological, interconnected stories surrounding the narrator, his friends, family and acquaintances in the decades after World War 2. All are Americans and experience Europe - really France and Italy - in a variety of ways. It is well-written but doesn’t seem to hold up for a contemporary reader the way more classic authors- Henry James? - does.
