I’m Charlotte York, but you can call me Char.
My life is perfect. Except for the fact that my older sister is posing naked for Playboy. And my mom wants me to be just like her. Oh, and I caught my boyfriend cheating on me. But other than that, it’s definitely perfect... Until the paparazzi publishes a picture of me smoking weed.

Now I am being forced to move to NYC with my dad. Too bad I hate New York.
At least there is Tristan Becker. He makes NY better. But he won’t date me because he thinks my best friend is in love with me. Which is absolutely not true... Or at least I don't think it is.

As you can see my life is just... perfect.

4.5 Tristan is Dreamy Stars!!

I've never read a book by Ms. Mercy Amare so when I won an ARC of this book and her new release, Ali, I had no idea what to expect. Let's just say I'm now a new fan of Ms. Amare's books!!

Charlotte York, Char, is a high school senior from Malibu, California, who's just moved to New York City to live with her Dad. Just because she was photographed by the paparazzi smoking weed, she has to move away from all her friends. Did I mention her older sisters are actresses? Char doesn't want anything to do with their lifestyle so why are they photographing her!!

Char loves to surf and will miss surfing everyday with her BFF, Aaron. Living with her Dad, who has been absent from her life except for monthly dinners and visits in the Summer, is going to be interesting. Char's mother wants Char to be an actress or model like her sisters but Char has dreams of going to college after she graduates.

Once in NYC, Char meets Christian Becker, who happens to attend the same private prep school that she does. Christian takes her to a school party and it's there that she meets Tristan, Christian's hot older brother. Tristan immediately stakes his claim on Char, but won't let their relationship progress until Char figures out if she has more than feelings of friendship for her BFF because Tristan is sure Aaron is in love with Char. Tristan and Char start hanging out together and become very good friends but Char can't wait until they take their friendship further.

The sexual tension between Char and Tristan was putting my panties in a twist. I must say that when these two do finally get between the sheets, it was well worth the wait!! It was beautiful and sizzling all at the same time.

All in all this was a sweet coming of age story minus the usual drama that goes with YA/NA genre which I loved!! Thank you Ms. Amare for crafting such a great story. I'm looking forward to reading Christian's fall from being a playboy in Ali

Char doesn't want to be anything like her older sisters. Her mom is constantly pushing her to be just like them. She also walked in an caught her boyfriend cheating on her. Her dad isn't in her life a lot and now she is being sent to live with him after getting caught in pictures smoking weed. She leaves behind her California life to live in New York. She thinks she hates New York until she meets Tristan Becker. He shows her life can be good here. He also gets her to see her best friend may just love her more than a friend. While she thinks things may be settling down her family life gets even more chaotic. She has to see what she wants for her future and see how she can make her life better.

Char is a great character. She is open about what she believes in and what she doesn't want. She just hasn't decided what she does want. She grows up a lot living with her dad and sees things aren't as she always believed. I love how much she grows in this book. Her sisters are very different in many ways but just as entertaining. Tristan is a smart sexy guy who takes his time and doesn't rush into things. He has a good head on his shoulders and thinks things through.

I would tell anyone to read this book as I didn't put it down till I finished it. The lifestyle and characters are so fantastic. You know you don't want the lifestyle for yourself but you love to read about it. I love the world the author created and how well you get inside Char's head. You really get to understand her and while reading you feel you are Char. There is loads of scandal in this fantastic book as her sisters are always in the spotlight. There is also a twist with the love as you see if Char's best friend actually does love her or not and how far she will go to be his friend. She won't allow anything stop her from being there when he needs her. While I am glad this is a stand alone book and I got to see a glimpse of characters from previous books by this author I wanted more. Just because I enjoyed Char so much. I would recommend this to everyone.

Charlotte York aka Char was the youngest of 3 girls. Her parents were divorced. Her dad lived in New York while she lived with her mom in California. Her dad is a lawyer and only sees her for dinner once every 3 month. Her mom manages her older sister's careers. One sister is an actress and the other sister is a model. But Char is a normal teenager. She hangs out with her surfer/pot smoker best friend Aaron a lot.

An incident happens and Char's mom sends her to live with her estranged dad in New York. Being from California she was used to warm weather and surfing all the time. But it is a totally different story now. Her dad signs her up for a private school. The kind with a headmistress and a dress code. Her first day she meets brothers Christian and Tristan. Christian is in her grade. Tristan goes to Columbia.

I loved all the guys. Aaron was funny. He could joke with Char and be there for her when she needed.
Christian was cool and a bit of a ladies man. Tristan was a sweet heart and was considerate of Char's feelings. Char's family played a big role in the book. Her mother was a very cold person. She wanted her to be an actress or model like her sisters. But she really just wanted another pay check I think. She got to know her father and found out he wasn't such a bad guy. Her sisters were very into their careers. They fought like sisters do but in the end were friends.

I didn't know what guy I was rooting for Char to pick, Aaron or Tristan. I liked the relationships she had with both of them. She also made a new friend at school Lyla and had to deal with some mean girls. The book had a good story and kept me entertained.

Thank you to Mercy Amare for a review copy.

Mercy Amare has done it again! Lord she knows how to write a story that hooks you right from the start and keeps you reading till the end. I loved the character development in this story because you have three sisters who live with their mother who allows them to do whatever they want as far as career wise. But the youngest sister Char is still in high school and she is living the life of any high school kid. She loves her best friend Aaron and they surf and hang out and smoke weed. All this having fun has gotten Char into trouble when the paparazzi prints a picture of Char smoking weed. By by nice life for Char and say HELLO to HEll with her father in New York.

Char is pissed off that her mother is sending her away to New York to live with her father who she doesn't really know and she she has no intentions on finding out who he is. But her mother sends her anyways and when she gets to New York she meets Christian and his brother Tristan. This perks Char right up because her and Christian become fast friends just like her best friend back home Aaron and Char finds herself falling for Tristan.

But Tristan is reluctant at first because lets face it he is in college and she is in high school and she is his brothers friend. But soon Tristan can't stay away from Char and Char doesn't want to stay away from Tristan because she is falling in to deep. Will Char finally be able to get what she wants?

This is a must read!

What an absolutely charming novel! This is a refreshingly funny look at life in the fast lane, when all you want is a quiet walk in the park! Char is 17, and the youngest of three daughters. One sister is an actress/model, the other a reality TV star, and all Char wants is a 'normal' life. After being photographed smoking pot with her best friend, Aaron, Char is exiled to New York City to live with her estranged father. Certain that life as she knows it is over, Char embarks on a life altering journey of acceptance and discovery.
I love Char! She's intelligent, stubborn, snarky, and driven.

I 100% LOVED this book. It isn't often that I finish a book with a smile and a heartfelt wish to have more of a particular character. Bravo!

Char is always trying to stay out of the spotlight of her sisters and making her mom realize that she doesn't want any part of it. Then she gets in trouble and has to move to NY with her dad, she hates the idea at first but being away from mom and all the paparazzi changes her attitude toward NY. I laughed through this whole book, it was a great read and I would definitely recommend it.

First Thoughts:

I absolutely fell in love with this book. It took me a little bit to be sucked into the story but once I was hooked, I was a goner. The story was so sweet and delicious that I found myself flying through the pages. I liked the idea of the story and the romance involved. I really enjoyed the ups and downs Char had to go through, it made the story that much more interesting. This was definitely a story I very much enjoyed reading.

Goodreads Summary:

As you can see my life is just... perfect.

Plot:

This was a story of self-discovery and teenage drama. I liked that we got to see Char go through all of the obstacles that you would find in a normal high school. There was also the added drama of having two sisters being in the acting and modeling business. The sisters really added a new layer to the story. It added in more drama that made the story more enjoyable to read. As far as the pace of the book, I thought it was kind of fast, I wasn’t lying when I said I flew through the pages. So overall, the plot was interesting and kept my attention/

Romance:

I loved the romance in this book, it was so sweet and amazing to read. I really enjoyed the suspense and heartache we felt alongside Char. Their relationship was so real and true, they had their obstacles but they were able to meet them with their head held high. I thought the two of them were such a perfect fit; their personalities were compatible. So overall, I really enjoyed this aspect of the story.

Characters:

I enjoyed the characters in this story, they all had their own personality and were such deep and lovable characters. Char was a little difficult for me to connect with in the beginning but as I got to know her, that connection slowly formed. Char’s mom really was beautifully crafted. The author was able to capture this woman in a way that made the relationship between the two more real and true. As for the other characters they each had their own role to play and I didn’t see an unnecessary characters.

Transformation of the Character:

This has got to be one of the most beautiful transformations I’ve seen in a while. Char started out as this totally neutral person. She surfed and hung out with her best friend and there wasn’t much more to tell of her. But as the story progresses she becomes this whole new person, someone who is vibrant and so determined. I enjoyed seeing her transform and really enjoyed reading it. The transformation was gradual to so it made it more believable/

Description:

I enjoyed the description in this book; the emotions were well portrayed in this story. The feeling of being in love; being absolutely content was fun to read. I could definitely feel the happiness and heartache Char went through. As for the scenery and landscapes I think the author did a good job on describing each new place, I was really able to picture each new scene. Like the penthouse and the Hampton’s mansions were both very vivid. Therefore, in the end the description really added a nice texture to the story.

Style:

This was written in one POV and in first person. I thought the idea of only being in Char’s POV was good, this story was really about her and the person she became. So having it in just her POV allowed the reader to really see her side of the story and no mix thoughts. Being in first person allowed the reader to better connect with the character and understand her line of thinking. As for the writing itself I found it just as enjoyable as her other books. There’s just something about the way she writes that just sucks me in. So in the end the style was really good and made a good fit to the story.

Quote of the book:

“This is my little piece of perfect paradise and I can’t wait to see what happens next.”

Last Thoughts:

I would recommend this to a more mature audience. Some foul language and instances that are not suited for younger readers. However, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more writing by this author. I thought the ending was sweet and to the point but I’m still wondering if there’s more to tell from Char. I felt like it was rushed a little but it was good in the end. Overall, I enjoyed this book.

My Review:
I won this on a giveaway on the author's Facebook page. I am so glad I entered because I loved this book! I cannot wait to read more by her. I liked how the book is written almost like a journal, where each chapter is a date and time. The book took me back to high school, dating, and wondering if I would ever find that ONE guy.

"Yeah yeah I get it. I'm seventeen. I'm too young to think about forever. But I can't help it. I want to dream about true love. I want to find that one special guy who I will spend the rest of my life with."

The main character of the book is Charlotte "Char" York. She is just about to be a senior in high school. She is not sure what she wants to do with her life, but she knows that she wants to go to college and DOES NOT want to be in the spotlight like her sisters. I really liked Char, for being 17, almost 18, she seemed very mature for her age but still had some of those carefree teenager qualities about her. She come from money but isn't a snob. Being in my mid 20s I felt like I could still relate to her, and even though the main characters are in high school/college the book still appeals to an more mature audience.

And that leaves me. Charlotte York. But everyone calls me Char. I am the rebel child. The black sheep of the family. Whatever else you want to call me. I hate the spotlight, and I avoid it at all cost...

We start the book learning about the main character's friends and family. Her mother Caroline is a former soap opera actress and current manager of both her older sisters, Chloe and Candice. Chloe is a 24 year old actress in Drama Queen, a high school drama. Candice(Candi), is 19 and the star of Shores of Malibu, a reality TV show, and soon to be Playboy centerfold. Char, her mother, and sisters all live together in Malibu. Her father Robert York lives in New York, he is a high profile divorce attorney. Char rarely sees her father, except for dinner every three months. There is definitely some family drama. Her mother wants her to follow in her sisters footsteps and either become a model or actress. Her oldest sister Candi has a sex tape leak out and Char slips to the media how she really feels about Candi's actions, causing a fight and hurt feelings between the two sisters. Char realizes that family is important and tries to mend all of her relationships with each of them.

" I really could try harder when it comes to my family. I bet if I put in an effort, so would they.
So that will be my goal- to repair my relationship with my sisters and mom...And maybe work on having a better relationship with my dad too."

Char has a best friend Aaron, who is in love with her, but Char is oblivious to the fact. I loved Char and Aaron's friendship and at first I was rooting for her to end up with Aaron. But the feelings aren't mutual, and they are better off as friends. I really do not think that Aaron was truly in love with Char, but because they were so close he assumed that they should end up together. I really hope Aaron gets his own book ( I can even see him with Candi). Char gets caught smoking weed with Aaron by the paparazzi and is forced to move to New York City with her father. She thinks she is going to hate it here that is until she meets Tristan. He's hot, sweet, and rich. There is instant attraction between the two but the relationship starts off slow, which was nice that they didn't just jump into things.

"I'm actually sort of happy he's making me wait, not that I would ever admit it to him. He's right. The wait makes it more suspenseful. it had given us time to get to know one another, and from what I see, I definitely like Tristan a lot, I might more than like him, but that's a thought for another day."

I loved Char and Tristan together. They both helped each other to be better people, than they were in the past. Almost every character in the book goes through some sort of growth. I really liked that it wasn't just the main character showing growth and change, I am hoping that some of these characters each gets there own books! I read this book in one sitting, could NOT put it down. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who like YA or NA reads. My only issue with the book was there were a few times a chapter ended and then when the next chapter began events were skipped and information was left out.

The ending line was:

This is my little piece of perfect paradise, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Just the beginning.

So I am hoping we get more ( if you couldn't tell) !!!

I'm kinda sorry to give it just 1 star but well.. it says did not like it and that's how it is. (Well I liked the Cover though! It's pretty and fitting - so.. nice work)

Major spoiler alert in here.

First things first: Why the hell is every guy in this book so... 'douchebaggy'? Like approaching Char for the first time (not everyone was drunk while doing so) and telling her:' Yo, I wanna fuck you real bad.'? I would have enjoyed some normal people here. I've read a book or two where the male protagonist shows this kind of behavior but then turns out real sweet and all but here .. I don't even know why but I think this transformation failed completly.
Second thing: I was kinda confused by their first night. He's like: 'Yo, I wanna fuck you real bad.' (Yes I'm using this again on purpose) and she's like: ' Nooo douchebag go away!' He stays, introduces her to people and stays at her place to talk until 2 or something. Whut? Am I the only one thinking this is contradictory? How was he so ok with this situation? I know he says something like 'I knew you were something special after that first night and I didnt want to rush things'-kind of stuff later in the book but I can't really believe any guy would have enjoyed that. + he's like: Well, we spend the night just talking and we are weird friends now. She means the world to me instantly and I'm with her all the time and texting her all sweet things while my intentions aren't fucking related at all because I got the feeling her best friend is in love with her and I don't want to touch her until this is out of the way. What guy would really do this given he's some kind of handsome manwhore thingy? (I'm not sure if this makes as much sense to you as it makes to me but I hope it does.)
Which leads me to the third reason why I did not like this book.
I mean it's kind of sweet that he wants to wait and even thinks about the feelings of her best friend but I don't really get why he would bother. Ok - he doesn't know for sure if she's in love with her bff but if she says she isn't I'd totally believe it. What would a conversation with him change about this anyway? It's nicer yeah- but he didn't have a chance with her anyway and they were kinda together already soo.. ?

+:I think this story was way too rushed.
++: I hated this virgin thingy from her sister too.

Now to some good things:
+ As I said the cover is nice.
+ Her writing skills are just fine. I didn't not like her book because it was badly written but the story itself just wasn't for me I guess.

Many people here liked it so I wouldn't say DON'T YOU FUCKING READ IT! - go ahead read it and you may enjoy it. I just didn't. You may love it.

Char and Tristan were both great characters I really liked them.

The first time that Char met Tristan I didn't like him at first I thought that he was arrogant and rude but he changed really fast and he turned out to be a sweet guy who takes his time with Char and doesn't rush into anything with her. I just love how that

As for Char She is very open about what she didn't want for her future and that was she didn't want to be like her sisters. The best thing for Char was to get from under her mother to live a better life. Her father made a great choice to bring her back to New York, she grew up a lot with living with her dad and she realized that she was not living her real truth in California. She also sees that things aren't as she always believed about her dad.

The only thing that annoyed me about the book how much time can Char tell everyone that Aaron was her best friend we get it stop telling us.

On a side note the people I really didn't like much was Char's mother and her best friend Aaron they where very annoying characters people just forgave them way to fast.

Overall it was a sweet book I really like Tristan and Char together. I hope Christian's book is as good as this one or even better.

Review for Char by Mercy Amare
3.5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

This story is defiantly for the younger readers of the YA genre. It was a fun, light easy romance story that left me feeling in a happy mood once I had finished it.

However I did give it 3.5 stars and the reasons for this were for one, I couldn't connect with Char very well. I thought she stood up for her self and at times she made me smile and think "go girl!" But at other times I found her to be mean and a bit over dramatic but she is a teenage girl who's had a crazy life being from a famous and rich family so even though there were some times when she irritated me I could forgive her.
Secondly for me, I need a lot of angst or drama in my books and this story just didn't have enough for me and when there was drama it was solved and over too quickly and sometimes I felt it was a bit rushed.

I did enjoy the ending, however I would have loved just that bit more because I am a massive fan of epilogues that really go into the future and let you know what's happened and how the characters have come along in their lives.

Things I loved about this book...well I loved Aaron- Char's best friend! I thought he was caring and he obviously adored Char and he was funny and teasing. I felt bad for him in certain parts of the story and i have to admit this is probably why I couldn't connect to Char that well because I loved Aaron and think Char should have handled his feelings better.

I also loved Tristan- I mean who wouldn't?! He was sweet and romantic and I believe nearly every teenage girl would want him to be their boyfriend. I also found his younger brother Christian really funny. He was cocky and very sure of himself but in a harmless way and I really enjoyed his character.

I did enjoy this story, however for me I just needed there to be a bit more of everything...plot,character development, drama. But I do believe younger readers would enjoy this book and I would recommend it to them.

Original review at Gabic Reads as part of the Char Blog Tour.

Mercy has upped the ante with Char. Her other books are more young adult, but Char is definitively new adult. Mercy's other books all have a main character that portrays innocence; Char does not. But I loved it. It had an edge that I fell in love with instantly. It's much more raw, much more intense than her previous books.

At the beginning of the book, I was definitely Team Aaron. But then he turned into this huge jerk and I wanted nothing to do with him. It was obvious from the start that he was in love with Char. He is sweet and funny. I'm really hoping for a spin-off about him.

Tristan and Char's relationship was cute, but it moved way too fast. She immediately unloads all her baggage on him. And they pretty much instantly fall in love, even though Char tries to avoid saying it. Same goes for Chloe and Phillip's relationship. They fall in love, have sex, get pregnant, and become engaged in less than two months.

Some of the stuff was anti-climatic. Like all the stuff that happened with Char's mom. And then it's just like "Okaaaaaaaaay..........."

I really wish we could see more of these characters. Candice, Aaron, Layla, and Christian should each have spin-offs!!!! I also love Mercy's writing style and the way she does her chapters. Anxiously awaiting more from her!

Dear Lord. I picked this up because I was bored and in desperate need of a book to read. Big mistake because:
1. The writing isn't very good. The sentences are short, choppy, and rushed. They're kind of straight-to-the-point but in a way that's not good for a book because books are better when they're detailed and well thought out.

2. Throughout the book, random guys will look at Char and be like "wow, you're so hot. I wanna sleep with you."
....
....
Um. Calm yourself, please. Why write characters like this? I don't need to hear about how every guy she's over known/meets wants to sleep with her. Honestly.

3. Char. I don't like her. She's always judging people and forming negative opinions about them before she knows them. And she's constantly slut-shaming. Girls aren't fully covered up? SLUTS. Girls are naked? SLUTS. Yet all she owns are short and tight clothes, but she's somehow not a slut? She randomly stripped her clothes in her house, in front of her mother, and exposed herself to her friend Aaron, but she's not a slut. Even though if her sister was to do such a thing, she'd be calling her a slut till her dying day. Even though these exact things would make her consider someone else a slut.

Sigh. Not a fan, couldn't even finish it.

Generally well crafted and entertaining light contemporary NA romance. Lots of celebrity aspects to the plot which don't get in the way as sometimes happens. Enjoyable but you should take off a star if you're not into this genre -- this is not Wuthering Heights. Would benefit from some professional editing as the grammar issues were distracting. Look forward to a sequel if it continues to focus on the main couple (I can be annoyed if a sequel drops the main characters from the previous novel and focuses on minor characters).

So this book could be a carbon copy of Jillian Dodd's, The Keatyn Chronicles. Same basic storyline, same characters pretty much, with a few situations changed.

The editing was terrible, the writing was super choppy, and the grammar was horrendous.

And yet I still give it 3 stars and will look for more in the series because even though it wasn't quality literature by any means, it was good old fashioned trashy romance fluff where the entire book builds up to Char having sex with her boyfriend. Honest to goodness fluff. But I did like it.

I was hooked from the start. I've read 8 of the books Mercy had written and I loved them all. I'm working my way to reading all books that she has published. Mercy you are incredibly talented and I hope that you continue to share that talent with the readers of the world.

Really didn't have a lot of action in the book. There were no real issues and it was just reading about a relationship develop. Didn't really get attached to any of the characters.

Book 1

I really liked it. I really like Char and Tristan. I enjoyed reading all about their friends and family. Will he hear more about them later on .......
