Bambino

Rate this book
The Boston Red Sox may have finally reversed the Curse of the Bambino in 2004, but only a few know the true story of what actually happened that fateful season. When a grand piano is found at the bottom of a lake in Quincy, James Flynn -- hot dog vendor at Fenway Park and seventh son of a seventh son -- finds himself drawn into a world of demons, exorcists, and MIT's mysterious Department of Alchemy, where a group of secret paranormal researchers are preparing for a final showdown with one of baseball's most legendary players.

"Bambino" is a 15,000 word horror novella written by Tom Bruno. Although this is a standalone story, you can follow the continuing supernatural adventures of MIT's Department of Alchemy and their many associates in "Keeper" and "High Tide", also for sale in the Kindle store!

Tom Bruno was born in New Jersey (Exit 3 of the Jersey Turnpike, to be precise!). An early reader, he planned his childhood activities around the weekly arrival of the county bookmobile and frequented every book store within half a day's ride of his three-speed bike.

Tom's bibliomania inevitably brought him to the Athens of America, where after a misguided attempt to become an astronaut at MIT he decided to complete his Bachelor's degree in Ancient Greek and Latin at Boston University and then his Master's degree in Library Science at Simmons College.

When he's not writing, Tom is a librarian, helping other people get their much-needed book fix!

I haven’t followed baseball in a long time, but still enjoy the old stories. This short work of Bruno‘s is nothing less than the spirit of Charles Stross’s Laundry series transplanted into the most American of pastimes; well worth a couple of short sittings and enjoyable whether you’re a hardball fan or not.

I always enjoy baseball stories, supernatural stories, and suspense stories. This brings all three of those together in a well crafted tale of why the Red Hosers of Boston have been cursed since winning the world series in 1918.

It is all down to Babe Ruth, but definitely not in the way we all thought it was.

Hang on for a thrill ride that keeps you glued to the pages until the final sentence flows past.

The dangerous twist near the end was genius.
