4.5⭐️ This book was so good, I can't believe it's over.
Edit: Daydreaming about this book and the fact that idk if this author is writting another MMF romance... and I NEED IT!
I kind of feel like crying a bit, thinking about never hearing about or seeing this characters again. Dani, François and Diego made for the perfect MMF sport romance. The build-up to their relationship could've been better -it seemed very fast, even for my standards- and the fact that I can't find the epilogue chapter anywhere it's slowly killing me! I'm all for putting epilogue chapters behind a newsletter subscription or something like that (you can always just unsubscribe right after), but this one it's giving me trouble. Those are the only reasons I'm not giving this 5 stars. Everything else was *chef's kiss* immaculate.
Seriously, if you like sport romance with both MM enemies-to-lovers, and a plus-size FMC with the most amazing double chemistry in the world, I totally recommend this one! It felt like it was so short even though it was a fairly standard lenght for a novel, it flew by. I could not get enough!
🌶🌶🌶.5 / 5 - There are many open-door scenes, and they are STEAAAAMY. Honestly, this one was top-tier spice. Once of the best I've read in a while.
Been wanting to read it for ages. I enjoyed it quite a lot even if it wasn't quite my type of romance. Not weirdish or dark in anyway but highly enjoyable.
‘You know I’d fight for you, I’d kill for you. Most importantly, though, I’ll heal for you. Both of you. I’ll be a better person for us. I’ll never stop growing if it means I’m worth your love.”
This MMF hockey romance was so fun to read guys! It had chance encounters, enemies to lovers, stubborn exes, little twists and turns and the damn SPICE yall, whoa! Diego is such a sweet broken babe, Francois is everything I need in a dominant golden boy, and we love strong, black female leads over here who know their own worth, which Dani embodies beautifully 🙌🏾 sometimes I just really crave a hockey romance, so this one hit the spot!
I’m proof that insta marketing works because I kept seeing this book on my feed and had to read it immediately 🤦🏾♀️😂 I enjoyed the writing style and will definitely read more of this author in the future!
If you love a why choose romance where swords CERTAINLY cross 😉, lots of hockey, a hint of enemies to lovers, and some steamy spicy group times, you should give this one a chance! 🥰
B.P Gilmore is an author I found on tiktok, their videos on the book "PowerPlay" had lured me in, hook, line and sinker..so I had to buy a copy.
This will be my second hockey MMF romance and the way the book was marketed it made it seem so cool.
I love the language dictionary at the beginning of the book, as someone who only knows English.. reading the french/Spanish words with definitions really helped me understand further along.
Let me be perfectly honest, I know Jack squat about hockey and sports isn't exactly high on my radar.
But by the time I got 26 pages in, I felt like I could comfortably fit into the audience of a hockey team.
I aboustely loved the firey balance between François and Diego, I was so hooked with everything between them that I had within the first 26 pages.
Having Dani's part managed to play a nice little balancing act between François and Diegos chapters. Also, gave my brain a chance to ease back to happy thoughts rather than "fk that guy" thoughts. 🤦♀️
When I got to Deigo explaining about his beauty routine, the first person I thought of was "Rob Lowe in 911 Lone Star" and his need to stay cute. So, for the rest of the story..Diego was instantly pictured as Rob Lowe on a sports time.
OMG! Chapter 16!
Unfortunately when it got to the triple love interest, something wasn't working for me. I don't really know how to explain it but I don't know..Dani almost felt like she was the uneeded third. There's just something about the three of them together that isn't clicking for me and man, I'm stuck trying to figure out.
The more I read into this story, the more I could see different branches it was trying to grow. The hockey romance, the struggle with parents, the ex-partner, the liar and its purpose to bench a character.. I felt like it got too much at times. I felt like it should've picked maybe one other to use in the hockey romance, I personally felt like the blackmailing storyline was almost too much.
The closer I got to the end of the story, the more it felt like there was a LOT going on. With two different types of blackmail and a lot of "convenient" moments happening.
I'll be honest when I got to the last 15-20%, it had been a bit of a break between reading. Which meant unfortunately the end of the story my mind wasn't fully attaching to the pages I had read only 4 days prior.
Reading the last couple of chapters made me feel a little deattached to the story, probably because of my mini break..but I felt like some of the roads used in the last few chapters could've been explored a little further.
Overall power play has plenty enjoyable moments and it's pretty easy to breeze though..

What a fantastic and unexpected read! I was hopeful that this wasn't just another hockey book and it was so much more. The characters have so much depth and deminsion, they have flaws and so much passion. Reading it play out thru the book was wonderful seeing the development of their relationships as well as seeing the FMC fight for herself and demanding the right to be loved out loud. It was fantastic! In the end it was always about the wine and never the label and the family you choose to love. A chefs kiss!
Power Play by B.P Gilmore I received this for an honest review. This is a brand new author to me, so I had no idea what I was walking into. Oh my goodness did this book make me blush! I was not expecting that. It was pretty good plot and I love the characters were. They are so interesting and flawed but great growth. I love that the guys were talking about going to therapy and that made me feel so happy!!
This Book was absolutely amazing!! I finished it overnight. I have never read a book so beautifully written. The spice was there the plot was there the chemistry was there. 10/10 definitely need to read
I loved this book. A hockey romance for grown ups. The characters were amazing, Francois and Diego especially, their chemistry was magnificent, and the spice was next level, top tier, chef's kiss I can't wait to read more from BP Gilmore.
I'm very sad about this rating. I wanted to love this so much. It has my favourite things, hockey, rivals to lovers and polyamory. Unfortunately, I cringed way too many times to even be generous. The writing felt pretty but still clunky, which was confusing. The thesaurus was used, great. I can love a book even if the writing is terrible, especially if the plot is engaging. I can get behind that. This, no. I was not convinced at all. Everything felt forced, even the parts with the hockey. The characters were so monotone. The pacing was weird. There should've been more pages in this book or something.
Unfortunately, this did not work out great for me. I think that there were good parts in this book but for the most part everything felt lackluster. The pace felt very choppy, the characters felt surface level, and somehow there is both nothing and too much going on. I like our main characters and where their relationship ended up, but I felt like they went from 0 to 60 with no relationship development. I really hate that this didn't work out for me because I am always looking for a good poly romance.
Sentences left dangling. Plot points left unresolved. Positions that I don't think are possible.
Hockey doesn't have a halftime. What did her jersey look like at the makeup game? A sundress? In November or December? In Canada? If she had just been on a multi-day road trip why did she need to search her parents house for toiletries and a phone charger? How did Peter know she was at her parents?
tldr; i really liked this book ! would recommend taking a read, perfect length and captivating storyline.
~~~
I really enjoyed this book.
the timing made sense, I never felt lost in the timeline and it was a cohesive story with no plot holes (none that I picked up on anyhow). the locations were well developed, I could imagine the spaces without ever seeing an image. it truly felt like I was there during some scenes, standing next to them.
the relationships were very well written, the characters were fully developed and thought out, and they never did anything out of character to cover for a story flaw. the relationship between the three main characters is electrifying, and the development felt natural; which shows there was lots of thought from the author on who and what everyone's story was, blending their lifes together realistically but still in an exciting "fairytale love" like way.
the perfect level of sexy, I read this on public transit and definitely blushed up or had to stop reading momentarily to collect myself. I have two moments in particular that I loved, I won't ruin the suprise; but they were delicious. the romance between the three is refreshingly healthy, the polyamorous relationship is well written and isn't full of the poly cliches. while there is tension and moments of heartbreak/deceit, the story never delved into unnecessary violence or hate, and handles writing sensitive topics with the necessary care they need.
side characters were introduced in a great manner. I find I often times have difficulty placing the name to the character story due to a lack of character introduction, but I never encountered that issue while reading power play. the author also did a fantastic job of making antagonists, I genuinely hated some of the characters so much that I audibly cheered for their demise.
my only critique of the book would be the occasional over-writing, which pulls me out of the book. a passage with a large list making my eyes want to drag over the words, the inner monologue feeling more like a ramble then something that adds to the story, repeating the same thing in a slightly different wording. while sometimes it added to the characters personality, I found it ended up distracting me from the main story or scene going on.
overall, I really enjoyed this book. this was the first romance book I've read, and it was a more pleasant experience then I originally thought it would be. it felt much more cohesive and thought out from similar novels I read as a teen, and has changed my opinion on the genre entirely. brilliantly done, and I can't wait for the next book release !
Do tejto knihy som sa zamilovala od prvého slova. Konečne po všetkých short stories a knihách, ktoré ma absolútne nebavili som natrafila na knihu (a ešte k tomu zadarmo v rámci „kampane“ s plus-size hlavnými hrdinkami), ktorá ma naozaj bavila a nebyť práce, mám ju prečítanú do dvoch dní.
Hokejová romanca. Plus-size hlavná hrdinka. Why choose? A ak vám to náhodou nestačí: 3 POVs, enemies to lovers, friends to lovers.
Keď si Dani našla prácu snov ako šéfkuchárka hokejového tímu, ešte netušila, že sa jej do života pripletú dvaja svalnatí hokejisti, ktorí sa však nemôžu vystáť. Kým jeden z nich ju bozkom zachráni pred otravnou družkou jej ex, druhého ošetrí v tmavej uličke po potýčke so spoluhráčom, zhodou náhod tým, ktorý pobozkal Dani. U oboch to bola láska na prvý pohľad, Dani však Diega a Françoisa vnímala len ako dobrých kamarátov, o ktorých najskôr ani nevedela, že sú členovia tímu. Nie je predsa možné, aby sa športovci ich kalibru zamilovali do plus-size kuchárky. OMYL! Chalani sa do nej zaľúbili až po uši a všemožne sa snažili, aby si to Dani uvedomila. No biedne výsledky tímu a manipulácia Diega jeho agentom však donútia ich kouča, aby dal chalanov za ko-kapitánov a oni sa tak zblížili a naučili sa spolu vychádzať. A tí sa veru zblížili! 🤭 Aj s Dani, pochopiteľne. Ucitevali ju ako svoju bohyňu, ich záchrankyňu a skazu zároveň. 🥵
Aby však nebolo všetko ružové a dokonalé, do deja zasahujú rodičia Diega a Françoisa a s nimi traumy, ktoré sa chalani snažia vyriešiť. Otcovo vyhrážanie sa, že ak Diego nepomôže svojmu bratrancovi, tak mu zničí kariéru. Françoisova rodina, ktorá ho kvôli jeho coming-outu priznáva len vtedy, keď víťazí. Pri Dani to boli chvíľami problémy so sebavedomím a pocitom, že nikdy nebude dosť dobrá, lebo je tučná. To u mňa zaťalo do živého (obzvlášť po „virálnom“ poste na Threads, kde ma niektorí ľudia posielali do fitka a označili za vyžrané prasa…), pretože takým niečim si raz začas prechádzam aj ja - a nie vždy je to spojené s mojou váhou a výzorom. No terapia a bezpodmienečná láska od ľudí, ktorých aj vy nadovšetko milujete, vám postupne pomôže väčšinu problémov prekonať.
Naši hrdinovia prekonali všetky prekážky, ktoré im osud nachystal a zaslúžili si tak 8-stranový sólo epilóg (ak sa prihlásite k odberu autorkinho newsletteru), ktorý je úplne zlatý. Dokonca sú v ňom postavy, ktoré sú spomenuté ako v knihe Power Play, tak majú aj vlastnú knihu (ktorá možno pribudne v mojim TBR).
Inak, po celú dobu čítania som myslela na konkrétnych chalanov z našej repre (aj keď opis Diega a Françoisa na nich vôbec nesedel) a o to bolo to čítanie ešte zaujímavejšie. 🙈
Dani just got her dream job as private chef to her local hockey team, and sparks fly between her and two of the players. Diego and Francois are rivals with a tumultuous relationship that bubbles over into something new when they have a fierce kiss. And they both want Dani too. This is truly a polyamorous romance, with all three of them being essential to the functioning of their relationship. It's so hot, a little kinky, and full of really queer sexy moments.
I love to see more sports romance written by queer people of color, and the author's identities shine through with a lot of love and joy on every page. This book has a great mix of sweetness, heat, and plot driving it along. It's full of well realized characters, complex relationships, and an awful lot of hockey content to top it all off.
There are a couple writing craft things that could have been stronger, but overall I think it's a very strong story, and I enjoyed my reading experience a great deal. I definitely want to read anything else the author writes!
Y’all!!! My kindle stayed glued to my hand for this book. The character development was chef’s kiss and the brewing romance made it worth the read. Everyone knows I love a great “why choose” trope and this was no different. The “mild” slow burn surrounding Dani was so good and I identified so much with her as a curvy woman myself. This grew my love for a good hockey romance and I think I might be hooked. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this one and I’m looking forward to more by this author.
This was some of the smexiest MMF writing I have read, I think Mrs. Gilmore was trying to melt my device! I take a little issue with Colson and Charlotte and the roles they played in the drama, my pettiness was not appeased, I personally wanted more consequences for their actions. Also the fact that no one put the paws on Peter upsets my spirit. Outside of that, I enjoyed this so much. I’m a sucker for broken boys so loving François and Diego was a given! Dani is such a real and relatable character who was also easy to love. I’m really looking forward to reading more from this author because that preview at the end was tantalizing.
I love me a good why choose romance. This was amazing. The slow burn turned into heavy spice was EPIC! They fit so well together. Professing their love to Dani and to each other at the center at the hockey game was epic. I appreciate the fact that they stood by each other the whole way through and never let anyone get between them. Dani did deserve to be loved out loud and not in secret. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will definitely be rereading this during pride month. The ending caught me off guard....I was hoping to read the proposal to both of them and hearing them become Stanley cup champions.
Fabulous mmf RH book. Love the treatment of the plus size FMC and the worship her men give her. The character development and growth they all experience is phenomenal. The ending is surprising but doesn’t feel unfulfilled despite a big question mark being left open. I loved the representation of biculture and the journey to self acceptance. Excellent read. Some minor grammar things but if you can’t overlook that, this reflects more on you than the author. Great job!
This is the first book I've read by this author. I'm pleasantly surprised. I loved the characters and how their relationship developed. The spice was 👌🏼. I'm definitely going to read more books by this author.
Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love: ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Spice quantity: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Spice quality: 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵 Dark: Humor: 😂😂 Suspense: 🙈🙈🙈 Predictability: 🎱🎱🎱 Readability: 📖📖📖📖📖 Feels: 👩🏼❤️👨🏼👩🏼❤️👨🏼👩🏼❤️👨🏼👩🏼❤️👨🏼 Emotional Depth: 🧠🧠🧠🧠 Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡⚡⚡ Perspective: first person dpov Cliffhanger: No Epilogue: Yes Format: E-book formn Why I chose this book: received it on stuff your kindle day
My Thank you for the fat representation with a FMC is beyond immeasurable. Not many authors exist in this realm of romance. You, Miss Gibson, are a very rare treasure indeed. The MMF dynamic was beautifully written. All three had relatable issues and getting behind real life solutions to help them deal is refreshing. Love has no boundaries, regardless of preferences. Thank you again and again for sharing such a wonderful story. Happy writing.
Oh Tbnk que stai bon. This little beauty of a polygamous hockey romance was insane. You have the enemies to lovers, you have insta lust, you have friends to lovers, you have forbidden relationship, it gives you everything in the best way. This little beauty sends you on a wild ride of building this relationship while individually heally their inner deamons. And the spice was exquisite. I loved every minute of this.
The chemistry between the characters was so good, I could not stop and finished the whole book in one day. Wonderful to have an enemies-to-lovers and friends-to-lovers in the same story. I'm glad that the misunderstanding didn't last too much because I hate that so that's already a big green flag. Loving that Dani gives priority to herself and future, also liked the highlights on importance of therapy and mental health ✨️
I really enjoyed this book; the story kept me interested throughout. The characters were well written with enough backstory to make me connect with all three of them. The spice was top tier, making it a hard read in public. 😂 but so very worth it.
Will definitely be picking up another B. P Gilmore book. 😁
Wow! New author that I will definitely be reading more of in the future! I loved the spice, and the characters were all likeable. The story was awesome. Read this is you love a throuple/MMF! I loved that there was more depth to the story too, and each character had so much growth. I love a story with representation and a plus size heroine getting both the hotties!
I’m not usually a huge hockey romance girlie, but I loved this sweet (and spicy) tale of these three getting together. The relationship between the three of them felt real & believable, and I found myself rooting for them at every turn. A few fun twists & turns kept things exciting but I devoured this one up.
