The Halls of Ashcroft

Rate this book
Amidst the garden parties and romantic afternoons of the Edwardian Era, a sinister plot unfolds in the southeast of England...

Rosamund Haskin is thrilled when her younger sister, Georgiana, forms an attachment with Mr. Jasper Layne, a well-bred and intelligent man working for Scotland Yard. She is not so thrilled, however, when she finds herself continually paired off with Jasper's unsociable colleague, James Merrick. Displeased with Merrick's aloof and haughty behavior, Rosamund looks forward to returning to her job at Ashcroft, a wealthy estate not far from London.

But when mysterious threats targeting the children of her employer are received, Rosamund refuses to believe that they are mere pranks. Reluctantly, she calls on the aid of Mr. Merrick, whose skills as a detective she feels she can depend on - even if she does not care for the man himself.

As the threats continue and are followed with acts of violence, will Merrick's wit be enough to keep the halls of Ashcroft safe?

I've been wanting to read suspense novels for a while now but I wasn't sure where to begin. I have read several other books by this author so when I saw she had a suspense novel out also, I thought this would be a great place to start - and I was right! This book still has all the elements I look for (Christian, happy ending, etc.) and also has the necessary elements to be a good introduction to the genre. It kept me interested up until the last page. Highly recommend!

As a history lover, I knew it was only a matter of time before I began to dabble in historical fiction. This was my first novel of that type, but it certainly won't be my last! I grew more attached to these characters than I ever expected, and the research that went into this novel only served to remind me that my passion for the past will never disappear! This novel combines mystery, suspense, and romance, all set against the luxurious backdrop of Edwardian England. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
