Wolf shifter Alan has a problem—he wants his best friend Katie in the worst sort of way, but Katie's human and for a shifter male to choose a human for a mate is a death sentence—for both of them.
Katie is so in love with her best bud, Alan, that she can’t see straight. Problem is, Alan doesn’t seem to see her that way. All she wants is for him to tear her clothes off and have at her but, sweet, reserved Alan would never… or would he?
This novella contains sexy as all can be alpha male shifter that has been head over heels in love with his best friend for years. Oh yeah and some fight scenes and a jerk of a bad guy who might not be quite the jerk we thought. It’s also got some yummy sex described in it.

This was a bit of a shorter book, but was quite good. Perfect for a short plain ride or wait at the airport etcetera. The book was a good read, with some interesting characters. The main two characters don't have a clue about each other till close to the end lol.
A sweet wolf, a smitten human, and enough pent‑up longing to power an entire pack.
Mating Behavior is one of those novellas where you want to grab the hero and shake him until the common sense falls out. Alan is a wolf shifter with the emotional subtlety of a brick wall — sweet, loyal, hopelessly in love with his best friend, and absolutely convinced that choosing a human mate is a death sentence. Which, to be fair, it kind of is… but also, sir, please get it together.
Katie, meanwhile, is over here pining so hard she can’t see straight. She’s in love with her best bud, wants him to throw her against the nearest surface, and is about one frustrated sigh away from combusting. But Alan? Sweet, reserved, painfully repressed Alan? He’d never. Except… maybe he would.
Their dynamic is pure best‑friends‑to‑lovers gold — all that tension, all that history, all that “I want you but I can’t have you” nonsense that makes you want to yell at the page. When things finally snap, they snap, and the payoff is absolutely worth the wait.
The novella brings everything you expect from this series: a jerk of a bad guy who may not be the jerk he seems, some solid supernatural action, and a whole lot of heat. Alan’s protective streak is delicious, Katie’s determination is adorable, and together they’re the kind of couple you root for even while muttering “finally” under your breath.
Fast, fun, sexy, and packed with heart — Mating Behavior is a quick hit of shifter romance goodness that scratches the itch for fated‑mate chaos and best‑friend longing.
Mating Behavior was an enjoyable ride between Katie and Alan. Both who have had desire for each other for years. They have been dancing around it thinking that the other one doesn’t know or want them. Also there’s a pesky little secret that Alan has that he can’t risk Katie finding out about. But the lid is about to blow off that secret when Alan offers to taking Katie hiking to see wolves. I liked how Mating Behavior made spun magic from an innocent hike.
A cute short story - not perfect but kept my attention and I definitely enjoyed it. 4 stars.
Alan (H) and Katie (h) are best friends and neighbors. They're also in love with each, though don't know it. Each is keeping a supernatural secret that keeps them from voicing their attraction to the other. But things might change after this camping trip they're going on. Will they stay just friends, or will the dam finally break?
It's friends-to-lovers with a supernatural twist. It's really cute watching these best friends act as best friends, but also recognize how much they mean to each other, even if they can never be together (they think!). The timeline flows between their present camping trip and memories of their relationship over the past several years. So, cuteness past and present.
Yes, it is fairly predictable. You knew something was going to happen where one or both of them would release their powers (most likely to save/protect the other) and the cat (wolf?) would be out of the bag. From there, of course, steamy times and HEA. It was a matter of waiting til someone hit their tipping point. Just because you knew it was coming, though, didn't mean it wasn't entertaining getting there. It did get a little convoluted through the middle, but we got there in the end.
Alternating 3rd person POV. No cheating, and no love triangle. OW/OM drama from the other wolves they meet. Sweet story of friends to lovers with a supernatural twist. Would have loved for it to be longer, but as-is, it's a nice light lunchtime sort of read. HEA but no epilogue. No cliffhangers either.
Cute little story about a guy hiding his wolf side and his lady friend that has her own secret she's hiding. Katie and Alan been attracted to each other and they both paranormal but they always believed the other is human and their secrets could get the other killed or both. Their connection makes dating someone else harder and the jealousy sky rocket. Their safe life will take a turn when Alan takes Katie to his father's cabin to watch real wolf's mate. But what he got was more pain when said wolves turned. Treats toward Katie will take all of Alan's strength to hold back his secret and keep Katie alive.
Alright, first off, this is a very short read. Second, it's absolutely amazing for being so short. It's very hard to write what feels like a complete story in so few words (from what I have read, anyhow, so take that as you will), but she managed to knock it out of the part with this one.
The story was emotionally as well as sexually charged with great background and depth to the relationship of the two main characters. You could tell that Alan and Katie were in love, but denying it. For good reasons, even if they turned out to be baseless in the end. They were two misfits that found a perfect fit together, even if it took a while. They say good things are worth waiting for, though, and this is a good example of that.
If you like your romance fated, steamy, and heartwarmingly sweet, don't pass this one up. I'm buying it even though I borrowed it for free to read first. It's quick and dirty and absolutely perfect to make you feel good.
Mating Behavior by Mandy M. Roth Alan and Katie have become the best of friends since they met. Each would like to be more than friends—only they have secrets that keep them apart. Until a hike up to a cabin Alan's family owns.
Katie is interested in the mating habits of wolves. Alan knows quite a bit about that subject. When they spot their first wolves...they aren't the your run-of-the-mill type. Alan is out of time to come clean with Katie...if he does though, he could endanger both of them.
This was a free book and was a fast and easy read. **Strong sexual content and language
i Really REALLY did i said REALLY liked these book it has all the flufy cliches and also the end is pretty funny, its was sweet and short and i wish to read more like these type it made me smile, if you want a quick fluffy shifer sumtty ( i have read a lot more smutty ones these one is a good balance) lovely book , go and pick it up, go and click buy, ask a friend to borrow it, just enjoy a good sweet cliche story
Honesty would have been good. Though I sort of enjoyed this it was not the greatest read, too much stupidity. I get aggravated at stupidity and lack of communication over honesty. Two supposed best friends for YEARS, who don’t even know the truth about the other. Having sex without the truth being told is a big no no for me. Alan claims Katie but hasn’t told her what he is. But then Katie hasn’t been honest about her witchy powers which seem quite strong. Read through Kindle Unlimited.
A fun, lunch break accompaniment involving paranormal love interests to be. Shifter politics and witch morals add reason to the secrets the main characters keep from one another all the while battling what they feel. HEA.
Ah keeping secrets to protect each other. How cute lol. The stranger/neighbor was a bit odd and abrupt with his attitude. Felt awkward. But decent short story.
When Katie says to her best friend Alan that’s she wants to hike in the mountains to find old wolves dens things get interesting. A very good short read ..
**A gifted copy was provided by the publisher for my honest review**** Wolf shifter Alan has a problem; he wants a best friend, Katie in the worst way. Katie, however, is a human and doesn’t know Alan is a wolf. For Alan to choose Katie would be a death sentence –thing is Katie is a witch- They both hide what they are from each other because if they were to reveal what they are to each other, it would be death to the other one. Humans aren’t supposed to know about paranormals/ supernaturals. This is a good book and it is such a quick read. The MC have great chemistry with each other and I truly enjoyed their interaction. The MC have known each other for a while and it was good to read how the secret was finally revealed. I also loved the build of the sexual attraction between the MC. The author really took the time to weave it between the story she told and I liked that. This is more of a novella type story, not a full out story but you would not know that by the way the story went. Alan and Katie really dominated the read and you will love reading this story.
Title: MATING BEHAVIOR Series: N/A Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance, short story Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Received from: Amazon purchase Grammar/editing: A – near perfect
This is a stand-alone story, not part of a series.
As hard as it is for author’s to write those blurbs, it’s not often that they’re a great representation of the story. This one is perfect and I couldn’t possibly add to it.
It was fun. It was sassy. It had suspense. It had snark (a personal favorite). It had love and hate. Do not try to think ahead, you won’t see what is coming next, but the ride is worth the price of admission! Ok, can you tell that I loved it? I loved all of the characters, even the bad guys (and the mean girls) for being exactly who they needed to be for the story.
Alan and Katie both have secrets, the smallest ow which is that they are in love with each other. But as a shifter, Alan can't mate a human so he is forced to hide a major part of himself from the woman he considers his best friend. Katie a witch. And she too is forbidden from allowing anyone not of the para world know about her skills. Ms. Roth gave us a story of two star crossed lovers. And while the story was technically well written, I did not connect with either Alan or Katie. Their chemistry felt forced. Alan didn't come off as particularly alpha and as the story progressed i less than impressed with him. Katie was a little better, but not by much. I generally enjoy Ms. Roth's stories. And while I have read worse, I can honestly say this not one of my favorites by her. This story was a quick read with potential.
What happens when you keep secrets from your best friend who also happens to be the one you love? Alan and Katie are not only best friends that are also in love with each other, but refuse to act on it because they each are hiding a secret that could get each other killed. Alan is a werewolf shifter who loves Katie a human or so he thinks. Katie is actually a powerful witch who believes that Alan was also " just a human". When the two decide to go hiking they run into trouble and will soon have to let their secrets out or suffer the consequences. This is a short story, but you get everything in this story including a HEA! Hopefully we will see more of these characters in the future.
I received a copy of this book for a honest review...

Great read. Once again, Ms Roth creates a complete story in a short read. She doles out the background succinctly. In Mating Behavior roomies both want the other but have secrets that keep them from declaring.
During a camping trip unexpected dangers push them together. Will they give in or keep their secrets and refuse their feelings?
This is a satisfying love story while the danger is real it isn't the usual bad guys and the resolution will surprise both Alan and Katie. The ending is a surprise for all. Once again Ms Roth manages to inject her special humor.
This was an okay quick read. Alan and Katie have been best friends since he met her and invited her to move into his building. Both have secrets. He's a wolf shifter and she's a witch. Neither know the other is supernatural. Alan is forbidden by his pack laws to take a human so he suppresses his true feelings and tries to be content as friends. Katie doesn't want to lose Alan by telling him the truth, so she keeps her true identity secret. A hiking trip in the mountains causes their true identities to be bared to the other when danger appears.
I liked both characters well enough. It was a short story told in both POVs with a happy ending.
Great Short about finding love and not always seeing what should be right in front of you! Alan and Katie have been friends for years; both secretly love the other but feel they can not reveal their true selves because they feel the other is human and therefore forbidden. It takes a camping trip and werewolf treat to bring out their secrets and then the sparks fly! I love these characters, both are outsiders in the supernatural world, both preferring to embrace the more human side of themselves and they do it so well neither guessed the other was anything but human! Bad communication skills but lovable all the same. Highly recommend it!!
Great Shorty! This is a great short story by Mandy Roth. Alan is a wolf shifter and he is in love with his best friend Katie, who is human. He is scared if they mate it will be a death sentence for them both. Katie is also in love with Alan, but she doesn’t think he sees her that way only as a friend. She also doesn’t know that he has a secret that he is a wolf shifter. If you are looking for a great steamy paranormal that you can read in one sitting then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
This was a super quick, lunch time read. Alan and Katie are best friends and neighbours. But both have secrets.
He's a wolf shifter and she's a witch. Neither know the other is something other than human and neither is willing to lose their friendship over the desire each feels for the other. A hiking trip to the mountains leads them to out their true identities when danger appears.
I enjoyed the read, which was lot less steamy than some other Mandy short reads. I also enjoyed the dual POV. Satisfying little nugget.
