Captain Morgan Danvers sets sail to rescue his brother, kidnapped by pirates. Fearing he will become like his father who abandoned him, he has cut himself off from his emotions. Then a willful stowaway crashes into his life, awakening dormant feelings and firing his lust. Soon he finds his all-important honor threatened, for even though he is betrothed to another, he is drawn to her against his will.
Arianna Pemberton hides in a barrel she thinks will be loaded on her brother's ship but lands on Morgan's brig. Her father has forbidden her to sail, and this is her only course of action. Unwilling to allow a man to control her, she is determined to make her way as a seaman, a profession she knows and loves. But when Captain Danvers discovers her deception, he refuses to permit her to prove herself. As she struggles to convince him, unwanted passion emerges, jeopardizing her plans for independence.
Can Morgan and Arianna stifle their feelings and successfully accomplish their goals?
I live in the Northeast with my husband of thirty-six years and my two daughters where I work in the local library. When I am not reading or writing, I enjoy walking, dancing and spending time at the beach in the summer. My books, Tormented Hearts, Lost Honor, and Not A Gentleman were published by The Wild Rose Press.
Arianna, the daughter of an English shipping line owner has always wanted to be a sailor, so she leaves, home disguised as a boy, and becomes a stowaway on her brother’s ship, except she ends up on another vessel owned by Captain Danvers, who is on a mission to rescue his brother from pirates, and then on to Boston, where he lives. A duel of wills ensues. She struggles to assert her independence, defying his orders and working on his ship, as if she were one of the crew, while his only concern is to hide her from the rest of the men. The inevitable happens, and they fall in love, however, he has not told her that he is engaged to be married on his return to Boston. There is plenty of adventure at sea, including a spell on a desert island, a pirate attack, and a sea storm. If you like happy ever after, historical romance, you will find this a delightful read.
This was such a fun read! It takes into the pirate world and lets you forget about real life. It was very well written, from the enticing plot, the expressive settings and the descriptive way the characters were brought to life. Arianna was an awesome lead heroin in a setting that could have been cheesy or overdone. So not the case! She is courageous and saves herself multiple times. I enjoyed the relationship that developed, and the surprising twists and turns that made me keep having to read. I was taken with the entire theme, and drawn into multiple characters (kind of hoping there might be more written on Andrew!)
This is a sweet historical romance. Pirates, ships, danger, love, it had it all. It was nice to see a historical not so caught up with prim and proper ladies. I enjoyed the plot, the emotions were well conveyed. I really liked the characters. Arianna was spunky though a bit annoying at times when she did what she wanted. Morgan seemed sexy but moody. The story was predictible but cute. It wasn't the best of historicals I've read, but it was certainly interesting and a little steamy. It's a good read to get you through a weekend.
really good I especially liked the time they spent together on the island. I was really annoyed that Morgan kept his engagement a secret and I wish there was more about sailing and working on a ship but ariana didn't care that much about it she just wanted to prove herself. Also we never found out about the mix-up with the cargo and why she ended up on Morgan's ship.
i loved the characters in this book and how well the heroine held her own. i liked the ending, it hinted for more to come and had me questioning the real ending of the book
