Like a Hurricane

Everett

I'm the charming brother. The playful one.
Damn good at my job, but I never take it too seriously.
Life and death were just like playing cards dealt around a poker table.
And the new job I accepted was just like any other.
Until it wasn't.

My course changed the moment I met Arryn Lauder, an absolute hurricane of a woman, and my client's daughter.

But when the job goes wrong, and she becomes the new target on the underworld's hitlist, I do the one thing that could end us both.
I take her.

She was determined to hate me, but she was always meant to be mine.

Arryn

Model.
Heiress.
Ice queen.

I was used to being disliked. I expected it even.
So when Everett Avery shows up, with his charm and ridiculous good looks, I know to expect disappointment.

But then everything changes in one evening, as the only witness to my father's murder, my life becomes forfeited by the very same organization Everett works for.
Except he doesn't want to cash in on the job, he wants to save me from it, even if that means taking me against my will.

I try to keep my distance, I know how these stories end, but the more time we spend together, the harder it is to deny.

Everett wanted me to be his.
But fear keeps my heart locked in a cage.

Wanna read about an obsessed and possessive man? Give this a try, and Everett won't fail you. 🤭

================

Brief background: Rett was hired by Arryn's father to unalive his competitors. The day he accepted the job was the first time he saw her, and cue insta-obsession. He can't explain it himself, but something about Arryn calls to him. Anyway, the day for him to execute his targets came. However, these people found out about the hit, and they ended up killing Arryn's father instead. She came with her dad that day, and she witnessed everything that went down. Since she's a liability, she was supposed to be killed as well, but Rett saved her and brought her to his small town. A hit was put on Arryn, and this is where the suspense was focused. Rett finding ways how to save Arryn.

================

Remember insta-obsession? Rett started stalking her after the day he met her. He memorized her schedule and invaded her home one time. He's charming and was able to invite her on a date that led to them having ONS. But Arryn is smart, and she figured out that the anomaly that happened in her home security was related to Rett, and she put everything together and deduced that he's been stalking her. She asked if her suspicion was correct, and Rett didn't lie about it. Note that this happened days before the death of her father.

Anyway, after the incident, Arryn became an open target for every available assassin. Rett kidnapped her and brought her to their small town to keep her safe.

I would consider this as dislike to love, instead of enemies to lovers. They have chemistry, but Rett's stalking made Arryn mad, so when he abducted her, she became combative at every chance. Even days after they came to his town, there's still a lot of retort coming from Arryn. She put up a fight, and I actually loved her feistiness and sassiness. This woman didn't back down and held her ground. Though some of her antics come off as bratty, it didn't matter to me, and I was able to get past the immature attitude.

She was labeled "Ice Queen" and doesn't care for the opinions of other people. She likes to hide her feelings, but Rett was able to see through beyond her facade. He wants her like he never wanted anyone before. I don't understand the obsession he has for her, honestly, but I'm still here for it. 😂

Of course, this comes with forced proximity because they're in hiding, and eventually sparks flew. Well, it never went away anyway. This is steaaamy 🫣 I guess, because they don't really have much to do with their time. 😂

Rett successfully took down Arryn's walls, and he showed her what love feels and looks like. And she realized it too, but it took her quite some time to get there.

Then, as for the suspense, nothing bad happened, actually. When they were caught, everything was resolved rather peacefully. 🤷‍♀️ Anywaaay, I'm so excited for Malakai and Olivia's book. I think it'll be on fire. 🤭

Overall, this was a short and good read. It was kind of meh in some parts because most of the story was about them hiding and staying in his cabin and doing mundane things. But if readers want a story with no angst or drama, maybe they could try this. And if they want a lot of sexy times, this will deliver too. As for the romance, it was hard to understand in the beginning why he got the instant attraction, but Rett proved time and time again that he's all in with Arryn, and she saw his sincerity. So yeah, I believe in their romance. 😊

Book info:
- No cheating, OPD, breakup
- Kidnapping (the fun kind 😉)
- Stalking
- Reverse grumpy - sunshine
- Man obsessed and possessive 🤭
- Assasin x Entrepreneur
- Insta-love
- Death of a loved one (past and present)
- Small town romance
- Romantic suspense
- No virgins
- HEA (5 yrs later, married with a son)

Notes:
- On their last smexual action. it was said 3 months for Rett, only because he was in a coma for 2 months. Also, he's a playboy. No info on Arryn, but she dated around. I think she's sexually active too, just from the impression I got.
- They used condoms during their ONS, but when they got into the cabin, they did it bareback. Kind of icky because they never had a conversation about STDs; they just continued with this setup, although Arryn says she's in BC.

“The way you look at me, little storm, makes me want to do real bad things to you.”

This follows Rhett and Arryn. Rhett has been hired by Arryn’s father to take out some targets getting in the way of business. But when things don’t go according to plan Arryn must be protected at all costs.

This book plus listening to the audiobook was brilliant. I finished within 24 hours. I loved how Arryn was sassy, bratty and had anger towards Rhett. Rhett’s character was protective, fun, and flirty with his dominant nature did something to me. The plot was great it kept me engaged and guessing. I loved how Torrin, Maya and Harper were back and you got a glimpse into how they are doing. Honestly love Ravenpeak Bay and these brothers. Blue Nose Audio did a fantastic job with the cast and narration from Teddy Hamilton and Vivienne LaRue. These two narrators brought this book to life. Also Teddy narrating Rhett in those spicy scenes is illegal! The spice was stepped up in this second book it had me blushing and screaming. I will honestly read anything Ria writes, she just hits the spot every time.

The author cease to amaze me with her captivating narratives, and this particular book is no exception! As the sequel to the Ravenpeak Bay trilogy, I was immediately drawn to Everett when he made his appearance in his older brother Torin's story, and I knew I would be enthralled by his own tale. While I wasn't quite sure what to expect, I must say, he is an incredibly charming and incredibly attractive assassin! He truly has a passion for his profession and thrives on the excitement it brings. Raised for this line of work since birth, he has become exceptionally skilled in his craft.

His latest kill comes from Mr. Lauder, who hires Everett to eliminate his rivals. It is during this mission that Everett crosses paths with Arryn Lauder, Mr. Lauder's daughter. Arryn is both an ice queen model and the heiress to the Lauder company. From the moment Everett lays eyes on her, he senses an undeniable connection. In a departure from his usual approach, Everett finds himself inexplicably drawn to Arryn like a moth to a flame. He embarks on a relentless pursuit, gathering every piece of information he can find about her and following her every move.

When things take an unexpected turn in his mission against the rivals, resulting in Mr. Lauder's murder and Arryn becoming a witness, Everett takes it upon himself to "kidnap" her in order to protect her from the now-hunting adversaries. Together, they seek refuge in Ravenpeak Bay.

Arryn Lauder, a successful entrepreneur and model, gained a reputation as the "Ice Queen" due to the envy and dislike she faced from those who desired her status and power. Surrounded by people who only sought to benefit from her, she found herself intrigued by the enigmatic and flirtatious Everett. Unlike anyone else in her life, he showed genuine interest in her without any ulterior motives. Despite knowing the risks, Arryn couldn't resist going on a date with him, only to be taken captive by him the following day, becoming the target of her enemies.

I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the story and the characters. It was a delight to see Torin, Maya, Harper, and the others from Ravenpeak once again! The plot intertwined with Torin's book, introducing significant assassin-related conflicts. The romance was sweet and toe curling spicy with Everett's dirty talking. The scenes were passionate, steamy, and filled with raw desire.

The unexpected twist in the plot completely caught me off guard! Now, I am eagerly looking forward to the next couple's story, set to be released next year!

I skimmed through A Lot. This dude need to stop calling her princess within every word he spits *eye roll*. I didn't feel the chemistry between them. To be honest he wasn't obsessed but lusting after her(IMO). He was a manwhore before and after three month of sex deprivation how could he see someone and fall in love?

I almost dnfed, then skipped. After finishing like 100 pages I mostly dragged myself to finish this book...

Everett’s story DID NOT disappoint! Since we met him in These Rough Waters, I knew he was going to be a bada*s and his girl was going to have to be one too. Arryn Lauder is one hot, badass, feisty chick who gives Everett a run for his damn money!
The Avery brothers are trained killers basically and each of these books gives us the story of each one of the 3 brothers.
Everett is hired to do a job, he meets his “bosses” daughter, Arryn, and is instantly obsessed with her. He is a most perfect stalker I have ever read. He wastes no time with her and she decides not to fight her body and indulges in a date with him. One HOT date.
Him and Avery end up back in Ravenpeak Bay after a job gone wrong forces Everett to “kidnap” her to keep her safe. During their time there they are doing what they can to remain invisible to the world until there is a hit put out for her. This is when Everett has to decide what measures to take to keep her safe because at this point, he will do ANYTHING for her. There are stories unraveled, a twist I did not see coming AT ALL and had me gasping, secrets come to the surface, UGH such a good lead up into the next books and they are going to be sooooo good!
This is absolutely a delicious read. Everett is one hell of a dirty talker and damn if he is not the sexiest “predator”!
I have never wanted to be chased in the snowy woods so bad! HAHAHAHAHA!

QUOTES:

🌪 She was like the first storm of the season after endless days of scorching heat. She was the rain and the lightning, the thunder that rattles your windows and the wind that strips your trees.
🌪 Unraveling this woman was a need like an itch under the skin. A craving dug so deep the only way to sate the need was to fill it. And she was the drug to light up my veins.
🌪 I wanted to ruin this fucking woman. Ruin her and claim her and possess her.
🌪 “I will keep you safe, and happy. Worship you. Care for you. Destroy anyone who dares to hurt you.”
🌪“And it doesn’t matter how loud you scream, the only ones to witness my destruction of you are the trees and the sky, and I think they like your pretty screams.”

The first half of the book was good - fast paced, lots of action and great smut. But the second half bored me to death. It was a chore to get through but I finally did it. There were a couple of grammar and editing mistakes throughout the book + there was a complete change in the plot towards the end (idek how that happened lol) but overall, this was a good read. No OW drama, a possessive hero and a HEA. Worth a read!

It's not very often that the second book in a series is on par (or potentially better) than the first, but in the best way possible, 'Like a Hurricane' blew my mind.

Before I go on and attempt to explain just how much I enjoyed the latest installment in Ravenpeak Bay, I want to thank the remarkable writer that is Ria Wilde for granting me access to an advanced reader copy. As someone who wholeheartedly adored the story of Maya and Torin in 'These Rough Waters', it was my absolute pleasure to have an early look at all that awaited the next chapter for not only them and Harper, but Torin's brother Everett too.

If you haven't yet read the first book (which side note, I do recommend you do first), or you could do with a little refresher... Everett is a seasoned hitman, and he's been in the business his entire adult life. Although he understands why Torin pulled out of the so-called game a few years ago, Everett has no intention of quitting anytime soon. He's renowned for jobs well done, and he enjoys the rush of adrenaline that comes with each and every new assignment. However, everything changes the moment he signs a contract for a Mr Lauder.

Careful not to share any spoilers, I will say, this work order goes so unexpectedly, that Everett ends up captivated by and infatuated with Mr Lauder's daughter, Arryn, and before he knows it, he's doing everything in his power to protect her. While Arryn initially resents Everett for taking her against her will to secluded safety, she eventually realises why... and after that? Well, simply put, there's no putting this book down!

Like 'These Rough Waters', 'Like a Hurricane' is a title I will never forget. It had me hooked in every way possible, and as much as I didn't want any of the spice or suspense to end, I found myself desperate to find out where it was heading.

Again, without giving anything away, I am happy to report that the only frustration I feel now that I'm finished, is the unknown number of days remaining until the third (and fourth) book(s) are released too!

There isn't the slightest doubt in my mind that either of them will be any less extraordinary. So, not only do I wholeheartedly recommend this title, I also highly recommend the entire series - but please be sure to read through the trigger warnings first.

★★★★★. (ARC REVIEW). First off, thank you Ria for sending me this book!! Everett and Arryn’s story was phenomenal. This review will have some spoilers so read at your own risk!

I loved Everett ever since Torin’s story and how he protected Maya and Harper. This one was an immediate 5 stars just from the stalking, kidnapping and killing anyone who harms her.

Everett, my man. He saw Arryn and knew immediately she was his girl. He wasn’t letting her go and he took stalking to the extreme. From following her around, breaking into her house, and watching her sleep? Yeah. He’s obsessed. The red flags were screaming and we loved it. Everett is the mmc who would sacrifice his life for the people he loves and we saw that with the way he loved his family. His love for Arryn was beautiful. He saw her for her. He burnt her walls and built new ones. He knew she was the queen and he was just following right beside her.

Arryn, my little storm. I loved her. I love how strong she was and how she didn’t take shit from anyone. She knew she wanted to be controlled in the bedroom, but when it came to the (amazing) spicy chapters she was in control. Her backstory on her mother was so sad and then to read how her father died in front of her. And then a hit on her? Girl couldn’t catch a break. Her love confession to Everett was so sad because of the circumstances. HER LETTER? UNCALLED FOR.

The spice, the plot, the banter, the characters? All 5 stars. Ria has a way of writing so little yet so much. All the characters are there for one another and the found family in this is everything. Kolten and Vanessa’s story is up next and you better believe I am front row for angst galore. Malakai and Olivia? Oh yeah sign me up,

“Because if I go back there, I will die. And who will turn up at my funeral?”
“I will stop at nothing to get you the fucking life you deserve.”

“Pr – pr – princess,” My heart is breaking, cracking into thousands of little pieces as a single tear slips out of the side of Rett’s eye, disappearing into the thick hair at the side of his head.
“I love you, Everett Avery.” I declare, “Thank you for being the one to show me it was real.”
“Don’t,” his words are coming slower, quieter, weakening as the sedative takes hold fully, “Go. Don’t go.”

When Everett Avery, an extraordinarily skilled assassin, is hired by hotel tycoon Victor Lauder to handle his rivals, he does not expect to end up kidnapping his daughter Arryn to ensure her safety, leading them back to Ravenpeak Bay. He goes to great lengths to protect the so-called Ice-Queen, and just when you think you've unraveled the story, Wilde inserts a jaw-dropping plot twist that leaves you speechless!

Reflecting on Everett's introduction in his brother Torin's book, I immediately felt connected to his character. He portrayed a blend of humor and sweetness, a proficient assassin who appeared not to take anything serious yet was willing to sacrifice his own life for his brother's newfound family. His endearing bond with little Harper, even learning to braid her hair, showcased a softer side amidst his tough exterior. While I admired Everett in book one, my affection for him only grew in this installment. He embodies the perfect balance of a possessive alpha with a sensitive touch. The dynamic between him and Arryn, along with their engaging banter, kept me captivated. Arryn was a great female character. I loved that she was no pushover, and tried to fight back. And I thoroughly enjoyed her blooming relationship with Maya, Harper, and Vanessa.

However, the instant attraction aspect of Rett and Arryn's relationship overshadowed the natural ebb and flow of their relationship. I wished the revelation of Everett's intentions had been delayed, adding more suspense to the plot. The push-and-pull between them could have benefitted from a little bit more tension.

Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed their journey, and reuniting with Torin, Maya, and Harper was a delightful experience. Now, I'm eager to dive into Kolten's and, who would have thought, Malakai's stories!

Like a Hurricane- Ria Wilde
Narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Vivienne LaRue

Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Narration 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧

Man, I freaking love Ria Wilde books. If Ria Wilde writes it, I’m gonna read it. Her spice is top tier, and get Teddy Hamilton reading it…🥵🥵🥵 I’m not usually into instalove or instalust but you put it on a morally gray, obsessed man who is going to stalk you and break in your house and watch you while you sleep and leave all the red flags in his wake? Smash. All day long. Everett sees the Ice Queen, hotel heiress and model and is instantly obsessed with her and wants to know more. Unfortunately he’s also hired by her father as an assassin to take out their competition. She doesn’t know that though. So what happens when she’s in the wrong place at the wrong time and her life is suddenly in danger?

This narration was sooo good. God, Teddy is so freaking hot. And Vivienne did incredible. They both portrayed their characters so well.

Ria Wilde has done it again with this second book following These Rough Waters.

Everett is a paid assassin and he's the best. He finds himself in a situation he never thought he'd be in, protecting a target.

Arryn is a heiress to her father's luxury hotels even though it's not what she wants. When she witnesses her father's death, she's stuck under the protection of Everett.

They end up in Ravenpeak Bay with Everetts brother, sister-in-law, and niece who we met in book 1.

When I tell you I couldn't put this book down, I mean it. The angst, banter, and spice is phenomenal. There will be another book in this series and I already can't wait for it.

What to expect:

🩶 Morally grey MMC
🩶 Stalker vibes
🩶 One bed & remote cabin in the woods
🩶 Reverse Grumpy x Sunshine
🩶 Chasing
🩶 Small town

Please go read this book and the first book. You will not regret it.

I loved Everett in book 1 so I was so happy to get his story. It did not disappoint. I loved the hate to love between him and Arryn. She was really and ice queen and he was possessive! The push and pull between these 2 provided chemistry at definitely exploded when they gave in.
I did want alittle more from the story. I felt it wrapped up alittle fast. But all around great read and can’t wait to meet Kolton! From the glimpses we got of him in this book, I’m already in love.

💕Highlights
-Just like a damn hurricane, sweeping in to wreak complete chaos.
-"I have to warn you, your fight turns me on." I let my eyes lick down her body where it’s pinned beneath mine. "It kinda feels like flirting. Are you flirting with me princess? You don’t need to go to so much trouble, I’m yours."
-"You call me a little storm," She whispers, "Yet I’m nothing but a little bit of rain."

⚡️Stalker vibes
⚡️Kidnapping
⚡️Forced proximity
⚡️Grumpy/Sunshine (she’s grumpy)
⚡️Hate to love
⚡️Small town (Ravenspeak Bay)
⚡️Possesive obsessive MMC
⚡️Banter

I feel like I start every Ria review off the same way.. she never disappoints. But it’s true. Like a Hurricane is no exception.

There was absolutely nothing that I didn’t like about this book. Kidnapping?? “It’s not kidnapping it’s relocation”, grumpy/sunshine, suspense, small town, forced proximity.. ALL OF IT.

When we met Rett in book 1 I immediately knew I was going to love him. He’s the most sunshine-y paid assassin you will ever meet 😂.

We love a man obsessed- and Everett is OBSESSED. Everett knew he wanted Arryn the moment he set eyes on her. Arryn has been through so much, doesn’t trust easily, and takes no shit.

Ria writes such great complex characters, and her stories are never lacking in plot or spice!

Ooooo that ending just got me. The climax was the one I was not expecting, the revelation came out surprisingly well. Ria Wilde got the story pictured perfectly well and made it so spicy 🥵. The chemistry between Everett & Avery is undeniably scorching hot and the titles “‘Little Storm’, and ‘Princess’” he gives her are heart-melting.

Two totally opposite people with very different backgrounds came together in a very unexpected setting and their first meeting and then the next and then the next was just amazingly entertaining. Also, I got to see the characters from book one and that part always brings joy to me while reading any book. I am more excited about Olivia’s standalone story than Kolt’s.

It’s a 4.25⭐️ for me.
