I was so disappointed in this cookbook. I am becoming a Paula Deen fan and I just expected more from a cookbook from her sons. I will say that the ease of finding ingredients at your local supermarket which are used in this cookbook is fantastic. This is a rare trait in our world of super crazy ethnic fusion recipes and gastronomic quests in the culinary bible realm these days. I was a bit bored with the recipes in here. They failed to muster up much interest or desire to cook. There are a lot of ground beef and pork chop recipes which are two of my least favourite meats. A lot of the recipes are common sense and you don’t need a cookbook for the recipes. Lots of grilling! BBQ manly stuff. There is also a chapter on kid’s food which was of no interest to me. Before I slam this book further, there were a couple of “keepers” which I might try sometime soon. The recipes that stood out for me were the only ones where the Deen brothers took everyday ingredients and turned them into something easy, simple and tasty, yet they use food pairings or ideas that you wouldn’t easily come up with on your own. Or at least I wouldn’t. I am glad I got this from the library and didn’t buy it. I would recommend, if you are interested, getting it from the library and photocopying what you want. It is not a “cookbook bible” that you will cherish for years to come.
Ever come home from a hectic day at work, yearning for a really good meal, but you don’t have the time to create a masterpiece? Well, here’s the answer to your prayers.
The Deen Bros. Take It Easy cookbook is filled with quick, easy dishes certain to tempt your palette. Sample the Quick Braised Chicken with Rosemary and Potatoes, Sauteed Shrimp with Bacon and Mushrooms or Balsamic-Glazed London Broil followed by Tortellini Tricolore Salad. Finish in a flourish with a no-fuss dessert such as Double Strawberry Shortcake, Ten-Minute Blackberry Cream Pie or Southern Ambrosia Snowballs. Your family will love digging into these tasty dishes and you’ll appreciate all of those rave reviews, too!
I picked up "Take It Easy - The Deen Bros." cookbook at our local public library a few weeks ago. You may or may not know that they are Paula Deen's sons. They've appeared several times on her TV show, as well as their own show, Road Tasted, so I figured there would be lots of yummy recipes.
What I found was a pleasant surprise of economic, simple and healthy recipes! The book contains salads, seafood and kid loving recipes. And lots of colorful photos to tempt your taste buds.
I'm a sucker for those cute Deen brothers, so this book didn't disappoint. There were plenty of photos of them and plenty of commentary from them. Not to mention more of their great recipes. The HUGE upside of this book was that like the title says, the recipes are all quick, easy, and affordable family friendly meals.
Haven't seen the cooking shows, and all their aw-shucks, momma-is-great patter gets old, but the recipes look good. Wish they included the nutritional content, though perhaps it's better not to know.
I liked the photos and simple recipes...but most were not very healthy. Will make Five Layer Beef Taco Pie and Blackberry Cream Pie . The few others I know I would like were just too fattening and not easy to lighten up.
I was pleasantly surprised by how many recipes in this book sounded appealing to me and were either fairly healthy, or could be made healthier fairly easily.
This book had beautiful pictures of some of the recipes and I found many that I am planning to try. Comfort food at its best. This is a book I would consider buying for my cookbook collection.
