I recently bought this book and was impressed with it as many books on Wicca are mainly irrelevant, but this tells you everything you need to know to start out on your own as a Wiccan.
The author is well known in Scotland as a Psychic and numerologist, and is resident astrologer for the "Sunday Post".
It is a wisely written book and everything is thoughtfully well laid out, making the book very easy to use.
She gives the subject a new and modern edge without losing the tradition and doesn't try to impose her own idea's about how to worship on you, as Wicca is not an organised religion, you worship how you or your coven chooses. She makes a point of saying this, as some authors of books about Wicca don't I liked this, and would recommend this book to anyone looking to start out as a practising Wiccan, or anyone interested in learning more about pagan faiths.
It's a good read, though you have to be in the mood to read it. It's an easy read because it's in small easy to find chapters and subchapters. It's a interesting book full of weridly amazing information for people who are interested in wiccan history, spells, information etc. Or even people just interested in history, and spells themselves. Soraya is an amazing lady and catches your attention in all of her books. Another well done book :)
The outlook depicted in Soraya's book really rang true for me. She focuses on the positive aspects of magic, portrays it not as something spooky or flaky but a very useful tool in dealing with and working through your own obstacles and transforming your thoughts and emotional state into that of one which can help you to forge ahead through times of stress and difficulty. A big thumbs up to her innate wisdom and to her sharing her knowledge with the readers.
Just bought this book yesterday for RM5.90 to read while waiting for lunch to be served at the Kopotiam. Love the intro so far....something everyone can take.
A great introduction to everything anyone could need to get started in practical spellcasting.
The book opens with a clear explanation of Witchcraft and Paganism (with an exploration of concepts like the Wheel of the Year, Sabbats and Esbats, handfastings, the working tools, casting a circle and more).
The bulk of the book features a full working spellbook, complete with spells for most practical needs, all of which are easy to understand, use easily available materials, and have clear instructions
The book closes by introducing readers to the runes and even basic numerology - both of which are useful in spellworking.
Overall, this is a great book for a beginner (or even for interested outsiders), while still being useful for more advanced practictioners.
The whole book is filled with Soraya’s warm and helpful personality, and is illustrated with charming drawings by her artist husband, Martin.
I enjoyed reading this book as it gave some insight behind spells and witchcraft and explained against the modern theories that spells are bad, and that magik should be used for good purposes only.
I will perhaps try my own spells when I have room and time to create my own altar
