haha ONE of my FAVORITE textbooks! (am I NUTS!? I like a TEXTBOOK!?)
Great visuals, great examples.
This book explains everything from fonts, layouts, printing, WORKING in a design firm, OWNING a design firm, art history, design history, the best designers ever, graphic design worldwide, you name it!
This book was only an inch wide, but it was okay because it got straight to the point with only the necessary details. No fluff, no busy-words, no clutter. It would be a few pages, then THREE pages of inspiring, contemporary, great-looking designs.
I have been reading and working from this book for about 7 months now, for Graphic Designs class. It's a very well written book with many great, full color examples of good graphic design. I even did one of my assignments, a book cover review, on this cover, because it is so bright and makes great use of basic and advanced graphic design principles.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in Graphic Design. This is the leading book out there, at the moment.
Another design educational book. Great chapters on the elements and principles of design, the business of design, and related materials. This book has really good exercises at the end of the chapters for students to apply the knowledge.
This was my first ever interaction with "Graphic Design" and my overall experience was very good. Mainly, this book is divided in two parts; one is the theoretical part and the other is the applied part. Theoretical part was bit boring, when author gives an overall view and her perspective on the field of Graphic Design. The second part was full of interesting articles, essays, background stories behind great art works, logo designs and full of colorful designs. I would rate this book 4/5 and it was a great experience.
School book. We did a few of the projects, and read the book for class. I learned a bit about graphical layouts and the physical print industry. If you're interested in making your own book covers or advertisements, this is a good book to read.
As a student in the Graphic Information Technology program at Arizona State University, I was introduced to Robin Landa's Graphic Design Solutions as a course textbook, but its value extends far beyond the classroom. This book is not just another educational text—it's a treasure trove of inspiration and knowledge that graphic designers, both budding and seasoned, will find invaluable.
What makes this book a standout is the careful curation of print and screen media examples that Landa presents. These examples serve as both a testament to the diversity of graphic design as an art and a guide on how to masterfully execute various design techniques. Landa doesn't just tell you about graphic design, she shows you, and that's a distinction that matters deeply in such a visual field.
Additionally, the book's exploration into different graphic design disciplines is thorough and enlightening. Landa's descriptions are articulate and easy to digest, making complex concepts accessible to all readers. I particularly appreciated the depth of insight provided into each discipline, ensuring that readers not only understand the "how" but also the "why" behind design decisions.
While many textbooks end up on the shelf, gathering dust post-graduation, Graphic Design Solutions is one I’m thrilled to have in my personal library. I foresee myself flipping through its pages regularly, seeking clarification on design matters or simply in search of a burst of inspiration. Whether you're a student or a practicing designer, this book is a worthwhile investment for your professional growth.
It was ok. It's definitely a textbook. And since I've never really dabbled in the artistic world, I guess I didn't really get the fact that it's really conceptual. I read about 200 pages and it never really showed anything other than past works and gave definitions of terminology. I was hoping for more of a reference to composition, color, design problem solving, etc. It felt more like a history book than anything else.
