Nia, the protagonist of the novel, happens to be a person I would almost want to be in high school. Though, I'd like to be more of a nerd than to be on neutral grounds.
The setting wasn't that specified in a way that you couldn't really imagine how it would look like whilst reading. It needed a better description of how it is settled in a certain area and why it is essential. I also got lost track at times with the book because I don't really see the transition of a scene to another. Nevertheless, I love the book since I can see it as a Mean Girls type. I can actually imagine it to be a movie since the description and the characteristics given for the characters were precise. The plot was really interesting as well. When I started reading this, at first I was quite neutral about it but when I have reached the climax, it got me hooked and gave me the urge to carry on reading it even it's really late for a school night.

CAMEO BY TANILLE EDWARDS HAD EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS. JOB WELL DONE!

I also want to send out my thanks to the company, Fire Flies Entertainment LLC , for sending me a copy of this wonderful book. I am honored to be chosen to review this and very much overwhelmed by the fact that I was sent to do a review of a book for the very first time!

Disclaimer: I received a review copy c/o the publisher via netgalley.

When I requested this, I was intrigued by the premise of an underground society in schools. I’ve read a lot of secret society books, so naturally I got excited for this book. My mistake.

Everything from the plot to the writing was just bad. I hardly ever give a one-star rating — I’m really easy to please, so believe me when I say this was bad. I hate giving such negative reviews but this book just warrants it.

The book didn’t have a great start. Its prelude was 15 pages long (and it might as well just be the first chapter) and was too complicated from the get go. The transitions are so choppy from one scene to another that I had to read it twice. There’s just too much going on at the start and too confusing for me. The writing was juvenile at best; a lot of the conversations and descriptions just wasn’t necessary or made sense.

Page 6: "Lucy had a digital camera hanging from her wrist. The camera hung down lower than the hemline on her denim miniskirt.”

Page 31: "I was in the process of downloading all my CDs onto my mp3 player. I tried not to look at my picture wall when I was searching for my dazzling, superstar nightgown.”

I’m not sure if this was a final copy but I did find several mistakes (I didn’t note the page numbers) which I hope didn’t make into the final printing. Bad writing aside, the characters were so uninspiring. The fact that this “secret society” was just a ploy for revenge to be prom queen is just silly. It had potential to be interesting, but the flat characters and bad writing didn’t help.

I don’t understand why Nia is so aggressively angry all the time. I think the author tried her best to really emulate the way teenagers talk or behave but it was too much and seemed so juvenile. They didn’t do anything except care about prom or get angry at each other. There was just too much focus on other things that the development of the secret society really fell through. For the most part, revealing the true identity of Michelle in the prelude took away a lot of the development/mystery of the secret society.

I knew going in that this book had a song accompanying it, but I didn’t know that the product placement would be so obvious and blatant. The song is discussed all the time, its Nia’s favourite song and there’s so much talk about this Underground Starlet brand…

Tanille is a singer but a writer, she is not. Won’t be recommending this to anyone.

I hate writing ill of any author, especially since I know how hard it must be to write a book (when I was younger, given I was such an avid reader, I thought about being a writer and tried my hand at writing a short story when I quickly learned I have no talent for it whatsoever...oh well, there went that dream) and have to take criticism from the readers. However, this story was just so damned hard to read. I’m usually pretty easy to please, so when I say this needs a bit of work, believe me, it does.

The book didn’t have a great start. The prelude was way too long and read more like the first chapter to the book. There was a lot going on and all pretty confusing. The author was trying too hard to reflect a certain hip tone and it just came across as overly ghetto, and believe me, I grew up on the west side of Chicago and know what I'm talking about. Speaking the way these characters did is a lot different in real life. In general, I like a book that can capture those unique tones and are not written perfectly formal (think Black Dagger Brotherhood...love the way those guys talk and it feels real), but it is a fine line.

Then there were the random comments / thoughts. Not really sure why some of the stuff was in here since they made no sense. Others have noted those areas and gave examples so I won't repeat them. Adding these to flesh out the story when they are unnecessary just makes us readers annoyed. If it doesn't make sense or has no bearing on the story, don't include it. Please. Then there were the characters. I couldn't find a single one to really like. Nia was just so mean to the guys. I can understand not liking Michelle, but she was often rude to others who didn't do anything to warrant it. Not sure why any guy would want to talk to her, much less date her. And she took dumb risks to unearth the secret society. And what exactly was so great about them?

The good news and the reason this got 2 stars is because the story did get a little interesting in the latter half of the book, but there really wasn't much of a strong plot line. I cannot honestly recommend this book to anyone, and that pains me to say because in general, I think most books offer some entertainment and are at least worth reading.

Recently, I read the book Cameo by Tanille and I was immediately hooked to the story! We see a strong, independent girl named Nia who is faced with an unknown enemy from a secret society out to get her! She doesn’t know who to trust including the basketball player she’s working with for a school project. I would say this is the perfect mix between Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars. It is everything between fashion forward and chic to adventurous and thrilling!

It definitely relates to any girl who is in high school and it brings a compelling “bigger than life” aspect to popularity. The book starts with a prologue of the secret society and it’s interesting to see how things fall into place with the characters. It makes you wonder what is going on throughout the book.

What happens when everything you’ve known isn’t what it seems? What do you do? Who can you trust? As Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz would say, “We’re not in Kansas anymore.”

Cameo was also pretty funny and had many lighter moments. Nia has this sarcastic sense of humor, which everyone can relate to. Cindy, her best friend is quite the colorful character. She reminds me of my own daring best friend.

I would definitely suggest this to any young girl who loves to read and likes being on the edge of their seat! An added bonus is Tanille’s own music “Baby Come Back To Me” by Tanille and “Cameo” by Tanille. They compliment the book very nicely and it’s available to purchase online as well!

“Check the basement at 4 pm. They who wears a white hat and has taken from you that which they fear, you have re-gained only to shame them will make a Cameo”

Secret underground societies? Count me in. Cameo is an interesting novel that provides a few different elements: suspense, romance, and typical teenage problems. The book reminded me of Gossip Girl: Nia, our main character, is a mix of Selena and Blair from Gossip Girl, which makes for an interesting personality. She’s the school’s beauty queen and seemingly has it all: the popularity, the beauty, the reputation. But she also has her own struggles, like when someone from an underground society starts stalking her. She doesn’t know who to trust anymore, and who is out to hurt her.

The writing was okay, and the pacing was fast, as is required from a thriller. The stalker didn’t come across as scary up to the point of terrifying the reader, but it was certainly suspenseful enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. Nia’s trouubles, from boy troubles to issues with her girlfriends to wondering what she’d wear the next day, make her sound like a real teenager – she definitely behaves and acts like one.

Nia’s voice is down to earth and has some sarcastic jokes thrown in here and there, which I enjoyed. She’s the kind of person who I might not have gotten along with at first, but by the end of the book I was fully cheering for her. She goes through a lot of character development, even in this somewhat short book (at just above 200 pages) and is another person by the end of it.

An intriguing book, recommended to anyone who likes young adult romance and suspense.

It's getting close to the end of the school year with graduation and prom right around the corner. Nia's boyfriend Craig dumped her for the mean girl Michelle. Now it seems like none of the popular kids will talk with her. Then strange things start to happen to Nia. Did someone really run by her bedroom giggling? Was she purposely shut in the girls bathroom and had punch poured under the door? She is trying to figure out what is going on and why her. She ends up having to do a project with Jason for school. She kind of likes him, but she is not sure who she can trust. She even starts to think her best friend is in on the pranks. Someone is trying to tip her off about a secret society at the school. Who is in charge of it? Why are they targeting her?

This book was slow in the beginning. It was also a little confusing in the beginning. The subjects seemed to jump around a bit. Half way into the book is when things started to pick up and I had trouble putting the book down. I think the author could have put some more depth to the characters so you could connect with them more. It took awhile to figure out who was suppose to be the nice ones and who were the mean ones. Nia is suppose to be one of the nice girls but she said a lot of mean things to people. I also couldn't understand why she was being so mean to Jason. She would run hot and cold with him. I have a feeling it was because Craig had cheated on her but Jason was always super polite. Over all I ended up enjoying the book.

I would recommend this book to YA readers.

I got this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review..

This book is like 2.5 stars. I wanted to love this book because it had HUGE POTENTIAL!!! Sadly, it took everything I had to push through and finish this book.

This book is about a girl named Nia who is a senior. She just broke up with her boyfriend, and she getting taunted by the new girlfriend. She has a class project and was assigned to work with another popular book named Jason. He plays on the basketball team and any girl would die to date him. She was always thinking about ways they could be together.

Now this book is SUPER confusing. It starts off like someone is getting kidnapped, and then you don't hear about them again till middle of the book. Then when they are talking about all the main characters they don't introduce them or explain how they look. That right their had me wanting to stop the book. This book is a little over 200 pages. they easy could make it a little more by adding more descriptions!!!

o.k. to make it short. Nia is getting stalked by this secret society. She has to figure out what they are, and what they want with her. Meanwhile her and her friends are getting messed with. not to mention the petty little fights with other girls who are dating popular "sports" jocks. Nia has an idea who it is and she will go on her own mission to figure it out before her mom comes home from their trip.

this story will follow nia, her best friend Cindy. Nia's ex boyfriend, the new boyfriend, Lucy ( the gossiper), and the new girlfriend and her minions. (GOOD LUCK)

My favorite quote of the book, "Denying it does not somehow make it true!"

Other than that, not a lot leapt out at me as overly great. There wasn't a clear delineation between scenes and the scenes themselves were often jumbled and confusing. I think I'm a bit of a prude, because this is a YA book, but it was a bit spicy and had some strong language. I must be getting old, but I didn't like it much.

The characters did seem a bit shallow, but that seems to have been the point. I was never really into caring about popularity in school, so this book didn't really resonate with me. Not a bad book. If you enjoy drama, you might like this.

The secondary characters had a lot of life, leaving me wanting to learn more about them. I hope to see them in another book! The personal relationships between the main character and the secondary characters was one of my favorite parts of the book. Very layered. The plot didn't grab me, but the characters did.

My Thoughts: I just want to thank Fire Flies Entertainment for sending me this book to review. I felt really special when I received it in the mail, like a professional book blogger :)
This story had great potential, but sadly I don't think it ever reached it. The story line and writing was a little jumpy and the characters were a little flat. The plot was also rushed and poorly set up. It pains me to say negative things about this book when people were kind enough to send it to me, but I have to be honest.
I really did think this book had great potential. Fleshing out the characters and fine tuning the plot would have helped make it better. I just don't think this book was right for me, but it could be perfect for someone else.

I felt that this book was a bit less than what I was hoping for. I had hoped for a bit better character development. By that I mean that I had hoped for a less shallow main character (but I guess that was probably meant to be) and those secondary characters are ones who I actually would have liked more information on. I was never one for extreme popularity and love when it is downplayed, but the premise here made that impossible.I felt rushed into the plot that was scattered at best.

I have to admit that I was sad to not enjoy this one and give it lower marks. I did receive this copy of the book in return for a fair and honest review. I will try others by this author though as the writing was not horrible, just perhaps not my favorite.
