Melissa Turner Lee does it again, but this time better!

Book Two happens two years later, and I love that. I love that the characters had time to mature. And with the changes between the two, it's definitely a brilliant thing for them.

Holly and Theo aren't together, at first, but they soon find one another again, but this time, they have a whole new mess of troubles to face. At least this time, we get to do it with them being together.

I felt a deeper connection to the characters this time, and I think that their growth had a lot to do with that. Human nature screws us all at times, and I think that's why this book is so relatable. Sure, their problems are exaggerated, but you still connect with them on a deeper level, feel for them.

The Man Painter also begs us to ask what we wouldn't do for the people we love.

I cannot express just how amazing this book was! I couldn't put it down. Bravo!

**I received an ARC for a fair and honest review of the book.**

When I finished reading book 1 in this series I cried and anxiously waited for book 2. When I finished reading book 2, I gave a happy, all-is-right-with-the-world sigh. I loved book 1, but book 2 was so much better.
While “The Man Painter” could probably be read alone, it will make much more sense if read following book 1, “The Earth Painter.” In “The Man Painter” Holly and Theo are reunited, but happily-ever-after doesn’t appear to be possible. Several roadblocks to their happiness pop up, including all those normal human issues like pride, fear, anger, and left-over childhood issues (at least for Holly).
Holly is also exposed to the ugly truth about her mother, which inadvertently frees her from a life-long need for love and acceptance from her mother.
I give this book 5out of 5 clods/

First off, I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest, unbiased review, as a part of my Goodreads book club. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
After reading the first book in this series, 'The Earth Painter' (which I loved), I was very happy to dig in to the conclusion of the story in 'The Man Painter'. This book picks back up with Holly, as she struggles to piece her life back together after losing Theo two years prior. She isn't sure where he is, if he hates her for losing the well, or if she will ever see him again. At this point in her life, she is living alone in her grandmother's old house after her parents packed up and moved to Asheville, NC (great town, you should check it out). Anyhoo, during a planned road trip to visit her parents for Thanksgiving, Holly feels compelled to go visit her old hometown of Charleston, SC (another lovely town!) after hearing something on the radio about paintings of dinosaurs going up for auction. In her heart, she feels that the paintings belong to Theo - or at the very least, that he was the original painter. As fate would have it (or the Sculptor, perhaps?) the paintings do, in fact, belong to Theo. But something is different with Theo -- things have changed -- could it be that he is now able to love her?
Fritz - the grumpy, hateful Water Painter, shows up to stir more drama into the pot. He seems determined to get something from Holly, or to kill her in the process. In a classic romance twist, Theo is keeping things from Holly, who is keeping things from Theo....but they need complete honesty in order to be able to defeat Fritz once and for all.
Holly's parents - I could never quite vibe with them. Her mother is still a narcissistic drama queen, and her dad is just kind of 'there' -- but those characters were very much peripheral and not fleshed out at all. Maybe that was the purpose, since they weren't main characters. The conclusion seemed a little rushed to me -- it was all this big build up, and then BAM - it's over. Would have liked to have read more about Fritz as well -- because let's face it...who doesn't like a bad boy? Why was he still so bitter? Was he still angry at the Sculptor? Why didn't the Sculptor take him out himself? And Khai-Ree...I want more Khai-Ree!! Talk about an interesting character!!
Not a bad story overall, although I thought 'The Earth Painter' was a bit more intriguing. I liked all of the banter amongst the Sciences in book #1; in book #2 it seemed like the Sciences were just bitchy. I still really liked this story, and I'm thankful that author Melissa Turner Lee offered it up to my Goodreads bookclub; otherwise I would have never known about it!

My heart is bursting at the seams and my mind is empty now that I have just finished reading the last page of The Man Painter. I was completely blown away by the life-altering transformation that we see Holly and Theo go through day by day. They slowly shed the filthy skin of selfishness and replace it with the selfless depth of love that they have for each other. This is a story of true and pure love at its finest, and it is an extraordinary end to an amazingly beautiful and captivating series.

I can’t say enough good things about this series! It is definitely something that I myself truly needed to read. My heart has been heavy for years with the strain of the shame, guilt, and worthlessness that this world clothes us in from the day that we are born. My heart has longed for the pure, selfless, and intense love that Theo has for Holly. Just to know that even if it can exist in this magnificent work of fiction brings such joy and hope to my heart. For all stories must first come from an idea and all good and pure ideas are given to us from our Creator and the true Lover of our souls. My heart has been destroyed and remade by two perfect pieces of fiction in just the past few months alone: The Little Seer by Laura K Cowan and The Man Painter by Melissa Turner Lee. I can only hope that more good things are on their way and not just for me.

As we continue on with the enthralling journey of Holly and Theo, we learn some very important lessons about how to build and destroy relationships that we can all benefit from. The most important lesson is to not keep secrets from each other. Regardless if they are life-altering issues or just simple little problems, secrets will destroy your relationship faster than anything else. You can’t truly surrender yourself to the other person or enjoy each other to the fullest extent possible if you are constantly worrying about them finding out your secret. That’s no way to live or to treat each other. Honesty is truly the best policy as your life, your heart, and your mind will thank you for it.

I can’t recommend this series enough, but I must be sure to note that The Man Painter contains some adult situations that are only appropriate for older teens. However, this doesn’t deter whatsoever from the merit of this series. In fact, I believe with all my heart that it only adds to it. All aspects of this captivating relationship are very necessary in bringing about the desired message which is - Life is immensely fulfilling and joyous when lived as intended.

You know how there are those books that when you read them, whether it's a reread or something new in the series, it's just like the best feeling of contentment. Like catching up with a friend that you haven't seen for a while. That's how I feel about The Painter Series. Melissa Turner Lee was one of the first authors to ever contact me about a book review and I fell in love with her unique story and characters in The Earth Painter. And so I have been waiting somewhat impatiently for The Man Painter to be released.

This book picks up two years after the first. We see a much stronger and more mature Holly this time around. She is still madly in love with Theo, but she hasn't heard a word from him and has no idea where he is. But things come into play that will see them brought back together...

I loved the Theo we see in The Man Painter. He's had to go through a lot to get to where he is at this point. And those struggles aren't over with yet. But Holly and Theo are keeping things from each other. Both trying to protect the one that they love.

Holly's mum is completely and utterly horrid!! She is right on par with Fritz in her evilness. Yes, it's a different type of evil, it's not the hands on evil of Fritz but she really outdoes herself in this book.

Khai-Ree-Hloa-Theo and Bio gave me so many scenes where I laughed out loud at their reactions to Holly and Theo's relationship and to things in general. Khai Ree is an absolutely brilliant character!!

This is a much more grown up and rounded book than the first. As in all relationships, things progress and eventually become intimate, but those scenes where never too much. They were wonderfully written and never pushed the boundaries in their description but were written so that you could completely feel the love that was being experienced.

I know that The Painter Series will be books that I will definitely read again and again. If you want something unique and fantastically written then you really can't go past these books and the wonderful writing of Melissa Turner Lee.

If you like the romance aspect of the first book, you will enjoy this one. The romance is well-written, feels natural, and realistic. If you like the idea of the painters, it's not so good.

Two years after Theo and Holly kissed, they reunite. Holly is studying theater, and Theo has become human. He paints and sells his art for a living, and still hangs around with the Sciences, especially Bio. One Thanksgiving, Holly sees a painting that belongs to him, and is taken to see him.

Theo is older, and definitely human. But being human not only has joys, but unique problems of its own. The two finally admit to and begin to fall in love. The renegade water painter Fritz is still out there, though.

It still has the great characterization and writing of the first book, and it ups the romantic stakes quite a bit. The romance is well done, a nice mix of sweetness, realism, and some humor. It doesn't just involve Holly and Theo, in that everyone else gets involved even just to give advice. People who liked the budding relationship in the first book will be satisfied here.

Unfortunately this comes at cost of the paranormal aspects. While there's some interesting things Theo has to get used to now being a human, the mythology of the painters doesn't get explored that much, and there really isn't an epic conflict to end the book. There's also a plot hole that carried over from the first book that I wish was explained.

Lastly, maybe I'm a softy, but I kind of wish certain characters in the ending didn't end up the way they did. There was implications with one person that I really wished got covered or explained, although maybe I missed it. It depends how exactly Theo's painting works per the spoiler above, and whether or not her nagging feelings might be justified a bit.

I think people coming into this book and liking the romance will rate this much higher, and I wouldn't disagree. I kind of liked the mythology though, so I have to rate it the way I did. I don't say this often, but I would have been happy with a third book instead of it ending here.

Comfortably paced and a book easy to relax with, “The Man Painter” picks up the story of Holly and Theo two years after the conclusion of “The Earth Painter”. Holly is driving to a much dreaded Thanksgiving dinner with her parents when she realizes that the radio interview is about an auction of what had to be Theo's paintings. By changing her mind and driving to Charleston to go and look for Theo, she changes her entire destiny.

It appears that Theo has omitted to tell Holly an interesting, but crucial, little detail about himself. With his Hai-Ree and the science, Bio, fussing over him like a couple of broody hens; frequent illness and the ever malevolent interference of Fritz, the water painter, Theo and Holly find it difficult to get their romantic relationship going. What will Holly sacrifice to obtain the solution to Theo's problems and give him the long, healthy life he deserves?

Although “The Man Painter” is a lovely, sensitive romance, it still deals with some unpleasant issues like Holly's extremely and utterly unloving mother who picks a very inconvenient time to reveal her aversion to Holly and her father. When a friend whom she tried to help two years ago joins forces with the evil Fritz, and another more recent friend betrays her, the story takes a very realistic, but decidedly grim, turn.

Humorous moments are added when immortal science get involved in mundane activities such as wedding arrangements, and physical education, as well as teleporting the humans to places where they think said humans should be.

To make this book the excellent reading experience which it definitely is, I would recommend that readers get hold of the prequel, “The Earth Painter”, before reading “The Man Painter”. (Ellen Fritz)

Review 6******

I was given an Advance Reader Copy of this book by the author in return for an honest review.

This is the second and concluding book in The Painter Series. I absolutely LOVED IT!!

Holly Scruggs is a fantastic character. I fell in love with her spirit in the first book. She is still in love with Theo, even though she hasn't seen him in two years.

Theo is also a fabulous character. Being the Earth Painter, he is very creative and artistic. However, all is not as it seems.

I fell in love with The Earth Painter (the first book in the series) when I first read it. I have been eagerly awaiting the release of The Man Painter. This story swept me away from the first page. I got to visit Chesnee and Charleston again, and meet the other painters (Fritz and Walden) and the sciences (Biology, Geography, Chemistry and Physics) for a second time.
This story has a more grown up theme than the first book, as there is some bedroom action. However, it is not erotic or explicit. In fact, some of the scenes were filled with humour, and I found myself smiling. There are a few other scenes that made me giggle. One of them contained Khai-Ree-Hloa-Theo (Theo's assistant painter) and the next morning.

Melissa Turner Lee's imaginative take on the creation of Earth by the Sculptor has taken me on an incredible journey. Melissa Turner Lee is definitely one of my favourite authors, and I will read any of her books in the future. If you are looking for a fantastic YA romance, I strongly recommend you give this series a try. - Lynn Worton (WaAR)

This is one of my favorite 2012 reads.
All Holly can think about is Theo and that’s all that has been on her mind for the past two years. When she’s going to see her parents for Thanksgiving, she hears about some paintings she knows have to be Theos. They are reunited and their feelings for each other reignite. But when Fritz is around, nothing can go smooth for them. What trickery does he have up his sleeve this time? What does Holly learn that is dangerous for her and Theo’s relationship and can their own secrets hurt each other?
This is one of those books you have to put on your to be read list and move it to the top along with the beginning of the story The Earth Painter. Thank you for writing a wonderful series for your readers.

Melissa Turner Lee's "Painter Series" is an addiction. It's wholly original and completely unique. It's a guilty pleasure. Holly is easy to relate to, and Theo is utterly swoon-worthy. With the way The Earth Painter ended, I had to read this book, I didn't have a choice.

This book takes us two years past when we last saw Holly and Theo. We discover both of them have huge secrets, and are unwilling to share them. Meanwhile Fritz waltzes in and does his best to make things miserable for both.

I love that we get a look into the development of this romance, and that the finish had a violent but satisfying closure.

Only I wish it didn't have to end...

Loved it!! I actually like this one more than the first book. It definitely completed the story and answered all my questions. The love displayed between the two main characters is exactly what I would do for my husband any time. An excellent book that I would recommend to anyone!

Beware, there will be spoilers for book 1 in my review of book 2.

Genre: New Adult Paranormal Romance (sweet, not steamy)
Publisher Type: Independent Publisher

My Review:
I really think it would be impossible to top the first book, The Earth Painter. It was just THAT good, but The Man Painter is a close second; an amazing and beautifully sweet novel. Easily gaining a five star rating. The incredible depth and emotion of book 1 is absolutely present in book 2 with the romance level of Pride & Prejudice.

We rejoin this amazing world two years after the events of The Earth Painter. Holly doesn't know what has become of Theo; she feels he has left after being disappointed in her failure to save the well. Despite the loneliness and guilt, Holly is doing well on her own. She has continued living in her grandma's house (despite her parents moving to Asheville, NC), going to college for acting and working for Anthony's mom. On her way to join her parents for Thanksgiving, in an awesome twist of events, Holly finds herself face-to-face with a very human Theo in Charleston, SC. And Theo isn't disappointed. He's thrilled to see her. It seems he may even have some very human feelings for her.

Theo joining humanity has been and continues to be a difficult adjustment for him. He is frustrated with his limitations and unsure of himself. This places him in a unique and vulnerable place. The beauty of this is that Holly's roll has changed and she can now nurture Theo much like he was able to nurture her in book 1.

While still full of action, suspense and mystery, Theo's and Holly's relationship takes center stage and it's sooooo beautifully done!!! Yes, yes, I've been using "beautiful" like crazy throughout this review, but it just fits in a way no other word works. This book is beautiful! You need to read it!!! It will warm your heart and make you teary eyed and will remind you how special true love is.

Cover Art:
Again, a book cover that is artistically stunning and perfectly reflects the content makes me a happy girl. **Happy Sigh**

I'd start by saying that while I'd recommend The Earth Painter for almost any age, the sequel is.... more in depth... Which is both good and bad.

Pros:

- it shows real love between characters, not just lust that's called love.

- continues the story from The Earth Painter.

- characterization continues to be excellent. All our favorite characters are there, and a few of our not-so-favorites too. ;)

Cons:

- More "adult" in tone. While it does convey the intimacy and love of a married relationship, I, personally, feel it goes a bit too far. Borderline spoiler: If you can read this book and not blush when someone mentions pizza sauce, you're, ah, not as private a person as I am. There's nothing improper here, mind you, just a little more personal than I, personally, am comfortable with. I, personally, would only recommend this book for married people. But perhaps I'm just a prude. Or perhaps it's because I struggled with... such imagery awakening "love" before it's time before I was married. On the other hand, I could easily see how others could recommend this book without those hangups, as the author does an great job of showing the joy, freedom, and other benefits of waiting until after marriage to give your body and soul to just one other person.

Overall, I give it three to four stars, depending on the age of the potential reader.

I loved this book just as much as and maybe even more than The Earth Painter. The Man Painter jumps ahead two years and is a continuation of Holly and Theo's story. It is a lovely story full of emotion.
Holly is still living in Chesnee and working for Anthony's mother. As she heads out to see her parents for Thanksgiving in Asheville,NC something causes her to take a detour to Charleston. What she finds there will change her life forever.
Theo has been living in Charleston for the past two years. But something is different about him and it may just be the cause of his death. He does his best to keep Holly from discovering the whole truth in fear of losing her or looking weak. But to Holly,Theo will always be the one who she wants and will do anything for. However, that may be their undoing. In a rash decision to save Theo,Holly makes a deal with Fritz.
Fritz wants to be human so he can rule the world and he thinks Holly has the answer.Holly needs something that only the former water painter can give her.So she seeks out Fritz and makes a deal that she doesn't intend of keeping. But lying and deceiving Fritz is a dangerous move which could destroy all the progress she and Theo have made in their relationship.Holly and Theo must find a way defeat Fritz once and for all.But is it possible to end Fritz? Can Holly and Theo find a way out of this mess and finally live happily?

I was given an e-copy in exchange for my honest review.

This in Volume 2 in the Painter Series. I enjoyed this one as much as I enjoyed Volume 1. The story continues with Holly and Theo. The story takes place 2 years after Volume 1. During this time, Theo and Holly have not seen or spoken with each other, but they have been brought back together. Call it fate, or the deeds of someone with something to gain. They have learned that during the time of them being separated, that their lives have changed dramatically. Even with all the changes, the one thing that has remained the same, is the way they feel about each other, and the more they are together, the stronger the feeling become. Of course, fate has plans of it's own, and everything can't be painted as a fairytale. Fritz is also back, and holding a bigger grudge than ever. What limits will be passed for true love and will love conquer all?

This book made me laugh and cry. I love the story and the characters. The author has continued to paint story in my head and kept me entertained with her creativeness. I highly recommend this YA read.

R2R: The Man Painter

(I received a free copy, in exchange for a review)

Continuing the story of Holly and the aftermath of the schools explosion. For two years, she continues working for Anthony's mom, in her law office and wondering what her life could have been, before meeting Theo, the Earth Painter. One day, thoughts of him are starting to overwhelm her and then she hears the unthinkable. A dinosaur painting, going up for auction, in Charleston. Could this be the man she has fallen in love with, but could not be with? Why would he be selling his prized paintings? The need is too much and she takes a detour, to Charleston, instead of home, for Thanksgiving. What she finds is not what she expected...

"Do you remember what makes painters and sciences different from humans? We were all sculpted, but painters and sciences were only animated by a spoken blessing. Humans got more than that. Remember?"

I enjoyed this book and bit more than the first one. It had a little bit more overall drama and moved very fast. Well done and I only wished there was going to be another book (hint, hint...maybe about the sciences?)

After I finished reading The Earth Painter, I literally started The Man Painter right away. I was *that* hooked to the story. As other people have, I must warn that this book is more adult than its prequel.

I liked the resolution to Holly and Theo's story. I was still in love with Theo's character and my heart was still aching for him.

However, I would've liked to see more about her parents -- maybe she should have been there when her dad told her mom off or something. I would have enjoyed to see her dad finally opening his eyes instead of just hearing about it.

The book concentrated more on Holly and Theo's relationship than the rest of the things that happened around Holly.

I never got Shelby. I think her relationship with HOlly should have been developed more so we could have a deeper feeling towards what was going on -- even her death.

I also would've liked if the endings and climax scenes weren't as rushed.

Overall, I loved this series, I recommend it to anyone that would like a different paranormal romance.

I hope for more from this series.

This book had me going through so many emotions that someone would swear I had multiple personalities! I love the writing style of the author, and how she creates characters that are so easy to relate to. As one of the editors of the book, I "might" be a bit biased, but this is one great story. Holly and Theo go through so many trials that every chapter leaves you wondering what is going to happen next. the contributions from the Sciences had me in stitches at moments. Although I'm sad to see the series end, the story was so well played out that you don't really need more. I do, however, want to read more from the author! If you like light romance, action, and comical banter, this is the series for you :)

The Man Painter continues from The Earth Painter. Holly and Theo are re-united, but neither can fully share all that has happened since they last saw each other. In the meantime, Fritz is up to no good, and it has everything to do with Holly and Theo. This book focuses more on the romance aspect, while the rest of the story follows along behind. I didn’t enjoy this as much as The Earth Painter, probably because I’m not big on mushy romance. However, it was still good, and I was happy to see the Sciences back in action, with their humorous viewpoint on human behavior. While this seems to be a YA series, this book did have sexual situations (not described in detail but definitely referred to), so I wouldn’t recommend this for younger readers. 3.5 Stars

Another wonderful story from Melissa Turner Lee! I enjoyed the romance between Theo and Holly and the wonderful insights into relationships this book provides. Lee's Clark Kent/Superman explanation is priceless! If more scenes had been added with the antagonists--Shelby and Fritz--and if the ending had not seemed rushed, this would have been a five-star review.

I can't wait to read more by this talented writer. (I reviewed the newly revised version by Alt Wit Press. I was given a copy of the book for my honest review.)

3.5- I enjoyed this sequel to The Earth Painter . I really enjoy the author's original storyline of creation and the painters and the sciences ;however, I felt that this book became more of romance novel . That is fine but I would have enjoyed more with the Sciences , more backstory of Fitz and even more Khai-Ree.
