this book I can rate it with five stars rating and if there was more stars I'll go for the full rating, why I'm so complimenting !!! because it's like I was a dry baterry with no current till Perello turned the power on now I no longer run after the good subject I just see the light. u won't regret reading this book , and to be fair I finished it in four days but it Worth's more time and a pre-understanding of the fundamentals, if you r a complete newbie I suggest u to take a look at some books about exposure

This book was amazing. For anyone that has a strong interest in photography, this book would definitely help you to see through your lens and paint pictures with much for beauty with light. The author definitely takes you away from the idea that the camera makes the picture and shows you through his eyes how to use light whether natural, reflective, artificial..etc.. and paint amazing, enhanced, creative..etc photo's. I think it is a must read as I said for anyone that has a strong, passionate interest in photography. Definitely money well spent.

This book is very dry. I realise as a photographer that it's hard to put into words what one does and how to achieve good photographs. It has valuable information in it I just wish it were presented in a more exciting format.
It gave me the same feeling I had when reading Salt, A World History. In Salt, I got bogged down in the sluices of Venice. In chasing the Light I'm groping my way through a dimly lit room.
Again, great information, but it's just not my style.

Thinking that I know what I am doing in Photography is a sure sign to me that I need to go back and review the basics. This book did just that for me. It is informative and helpful without the maze of technical jargon that fills some others I have read. I liked the shooting information that came with each photograph in book. That information allowed me to see how the various setting effected the images.

The first half of the book was more helpful to me where he discussed a lot of technical choices. The second half of the book was more focused on choices to make in photography under certain light conditions.

"one of the very, very few books that talks about what actually matters in making great photos"

Interesting book, I found this to be a useful compliment to the more technical books. The author attempts, and succeeds, to provide insight into making a photograph rather than recording a scene.

I would recommend this to photographers that feel they have reached a road block and are looking for a different way of looking for subjects.

Great book, personal and inspiring. It has made me to look at this world differently, with a pair of eyes more sensitive to light and shadow, regardless of Whether I am holding a camera or not.
