Immortal Heart More than a century after the tragedy of Hélène's death and before Ella found Kale bruised and broken on her doorstep, Kale moved through the world in a haze of personal punishment allowing it to consume him. Until his friend, Detective Deacon, a newly infected Chorý calls on him for a favor.
In this prequel to the Few Are Angels series, Kale is thrown into a world of human blood trafficking and is introduced to a Chorý that offers him a chance at happiness— in blood.
Inger Iversen lives in Virginia Beach with her tree-hugging boyfriend Joshua and her overweight lap cat Max. When not reading or writing she spends her time watching reruns of True Blood or killing zombies in Call Of Duty.
FAIRY THOUGHTS Favorite Line(s) “Kale still hoped to someday place his hand on his chest and feel the familiar thump of life pumping through his veins.”
“It’s like there is an empty space in your heart, and though it’s a void, it weighs you down. Each step you take through life gets harder and harder until finally you realize you are no longer the person that person once loved, that you are the hollow space in your heart.”
“Hell yes, Sola, but there are plenty of things in life that I want but shouldn’t have or don’t deserve, and your blood is one of those things.”
“Yeah, it does. You are letting fear stop you from living the life you want, and so was I.”
Oh my Kane!! Iversen does it again! I have always loved Kane from the Few are Angels series but, this one made me cry and fall in love with him all over again! He's just amazing! How thoroughly he loves Helena is amazing! He's the only one who wants to ARC to love and then to find a friend who understands that is amazing! Sola is a woman trying to find her way and is working for her dad. Then her father hires Kale (Danny) as security but what she doesn't know is that they aren't there for throb they are there to see if her father is involved in an illegal blood trade that kidnaps young girls. Sola and Kale worm their way into each others hearts. There so ADORABLE!! So when Sola gets taken from the same guys doing the kidnapping it's all bets off! Kale will get her back. What another great emotional story!! This author never disappoints!
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review
I have only beta read this, and have NOT seen the final edit!! That being said, I am VERY excited about this book!
I wont post any critics or negatives since I do not know what will or won't make it into the final edit.
BUT . . . . I LOVED IT! Immortal Heart is a prequel that takes before the first novel, and Kale meeting Ella. It gives you a look at Kale that you (or at least I) didn't see coming. I wont give away too much because I don't want to spoil anything . . .
I will say that I VERY VERY much enjoyed that I could "feel" when the author really got into the "meat" of the story, and that her passion showed through so vibrantly!
I CAN NOT WAIT to see the final edit when Immortal Heart goes to print!!!
This book has been one of the highest anticipated books of 2013 for me and am so glad I got the chance to read it already. I read it really fast — in only two days. A part of my wished I hadn't finished it already, that I had relished in it more but I couldn't help myself it was just so damn good!
Immortal Heart is a prequel to Few Are Angels about Kale that takes place before he met Ella. I was very excited to find out about Kale's life before Few Are Angels. He's one of my favorite characters in the series so I had very high hopes for this book. Knowing Inger, and the amazingness of Few Are Angels and also the second book Awakened, I was sure I wasn't going to be disappointed too much but I had never expected to love Immortal Heart as much as I did really. It was amazing and I wished it didn't end as quickly as I did (due to my fast reading of it).
It was amazing to see Kale walking through life more than a century after Hélène's dead and before he even meets Ella. I loved learning more about him and his inner struggles. Though the prequel is mostly about him there were other points of views also. One of them was Deacon. What can I say about him other than that he's covered in awesomesauce? Because he truly is. But he isn't just that. He also has his own issues and I loved learning more about him than what we've seen in the Few Are Angels series. I love him to bits and pieces. He was (after Kale) my favorite character in this book. Another POV was Sola, which is a new character and was a potential love interest to Kale. I wasn't sure I was going to like her due to the fact that I like Kale with Ella so much but I did like her a lot. First of all she has a beautiful name, Sola. And other than that she was so much fun to read about and so witty. I'm glad she and Kale met and have this kind of connection and history with each other now.
My favorite aspect of the whole book was not only Kale's tale was the storyline of the human blood trafficking. I loved how Inger weaved that in the story and not made it solely about Kale and Sola. It gave the book that extra portion of excitement and danger. It's kind of hard not giving to much away but I wonder if anything of what happened in Immortal Heart will be somehow appeared in the next Few Are Angels book. Who knows!
So personally I think it's Inger's best writing so far. I really do. A lot of the things she wrote were so beautiful, especially the part with Hélène in the end. Simply gorgeous! <3
Overall this book is in my opnion a much needed and totally amazing adition to the Few Are Angels series. Inger Iversen just keeps writing better and better books that leave me breathless. So am I looking forward to the next Few Are Angels book? Hell to the yes!
I haven't read the Few are Angels series but I will be picking them up after reading this book!! I'm in love with Kale. A great name and a great character. I love him!!! This book was amazing and I finished it in a day. I can't wait to read more from Inger Iverson.
Immortal Heart More than a century after the tragedy of Hélène's death and before Ella found Kale bruised and broken on her doorstep, Kale moved through the world in a haze of personal punishment allowing it to consume him. My Thoughts
Wow ! What a great read really enjoyed this story. This is a first time author for me and I really enjoyed this story and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in its series.
I found this story to be very fast paced and intriguing and as soon as I started reading this story I couldn't put the book down until I was finished it .Another sleepless night for me yet again...Not that I mind (smiles)
I really enjoyed the main characters of the story with Sola and Kale they made the perfect couple even though it wasn't a romantic one just a loving and deep friendship kind.Kale is pining for a loved one that he has lost centuries ago and has never really gotten over her.We experience his pain and suffering. He has had a hard life never really coming to terms with the whole vampire thing and also being hunted by the council hasn't improved his mood. He is lost until he finds Sola and things start to lighten up a bit.
Sola and Kale come together when he goes undercover working at her fathers company to find out who is stealing young girls and selling them as blood slaves. Sola gets caught up in this nasty business and its up to Kale to save her. But, how will she reacted when she learns who he really is ?
This story takes his through a bunch of twists and turns keeping our interest and passing the pages with a fever. We learn more of Kales past and we grieve for him as we learn about his journey and about his century of searching for the mate he lost so long ago.I believe that Sola's kind heart helped heal him at least just a little. They would have made the perfect couple if he could have let go of the past. The couple seemed to be okay with just being friends and Kale eased Sola loneliness and also made her take a good look at her life thinking she needs to make some changes herself to insure her own happiness.
Wow! What a heart wrenching ending leaving us on pins and needles and so excited to read the next book in its series.I believe Mrs. Iversen his going to have a major hit with this series and we are wishing her much success.
This is a recommend read to all and I believe it belongs in my keeper pile.So looking forward to further installments in this series.
I received this book as an ARC. It was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Immortal Heart by Inger Iverson is the prequel to her Few Are Angels series. I have not yet had the pleasure of reading any of the other books but plan to add them to my ever growing “To Be Read” list. Ms. Iverson has definitely made a fan out of me.
Kale is a Chory which is basically a pre-vampire. I wasn’t exactly sure what that meant. It was unclear to me how one went from being a Chory to a full on Vampire. Kale is searching for the reincarnation of his soul mate, Helene. In the process he befriends and mentors another Chory named Deacon, a Police Detective. Deacon, we learn is newly infected. Kale helps him adjust and control his feeding urges.
The two begin investigating a human trafficking case where women are being sold for their blood. The case leads them to undercover jobs as security guards at Jesper Ship Yard where they meet the beautiful Sola, the boss’ daughter.
As time goes by, Kale and Sola develop an intimate friendship. Unfortunately it is based on the lie that he is someone else. After a cryptic text message he finally admits to her that their relationship can be nothing more than a friendship because his heart still belongs to another. What he fails to mention is that the woman has been dead for over a century. She is disappointed but understands.
Lies and deceit keep him from telling her more. Kale wants to confide in her with the truth but is afraid it will destroy their connection in the process, especially when she finds out it’s her father they were investigating.
I’ll be completely honest; this story didn’t capture me at first. I felt as though I was missing something. Maybe it was because it was a prequel and it is assumed the reader read the first two books. I’m not sure. But once I advanced into the meat and bones of the book I was hooked. I couldn’t wait to see if they caught the person behind the trafficking operation, to see if Kale found Helene again or if he stayed with Sola. This story held turns I never saw coming. I fell in love with Kale, Sola and Deacon. I can not wait to see what the future holds for all of them.
Thank you Ms. Iversen! You definitely have a bestselling series on your hands as far as I am concerned!
I am a huge fan of the Few Are Angels series, and an even bigger fan of Kale; the tortured, "diseased" Chory from the series. His pain, torture and guilt just absolutely eat at your heart. His anguish over what happened in his past is so heart wrenching that you want to crawl in the pages and comfort him. Even though you know that the one he want's is Ella-Helene. Inger Iversen does such a good job building Kale's pain and showing us the struggles that he has endured not only in his life as Chory, but in his life before his change.
Being a fan of Kale as I am, I was extremely excited when Inger Iversen announced that Immortal Heart would be a prequel about Kale and from his POV! I am pretty sure I about died. The chapters we get in the series were just never enough for me, I always wanted more. And in Immortal Heart I got it. I got to see a glimpse at who he was before Ella entered his life, and just how hard his life has become and how hard he has tried to make retribution for all the pain he has caused. No one needs to punish him, because he punishes himself more than any person ever could.
In Immortal Heart we get an in depth look at how Kale has struggled to keep his past from those he cares about, trying to ensure that his pain and the danger that follows him only effects him. You can think of this book as a glimpse at Kales "so-called life." Because let's face it, he just hasn't been living, and in Immortal Heart you will see just what I am talking about.
Inger Iversen does such a good job with the telling of this story that it is completely seamless from this prequel to book 1 in the series, with Immortal Heart ending right where Few Are Angels began. In fact if I didn't know better I would say that the Immortal Heart came first. No one would be the wiser!
Immortal Heart was a great look at Kale's past, struggles, pain and path to the Arc and I absolutely loved every minute of the ride.

Kale travels to California to help his friend, Deacon who is a police officer with the Hammerhead PD. Both men lead double lives. They don't want people to know they are Chory (the first stage of vampirism). Even though the Council and Laurent are hunting him, Kale wants to help his friend. Their investigation takes them to Jesper Ship Yards and to Tony Moore who is the company's accountant. He is actually involved in drugs and the trafficking of human blood. While undercover at the Ship Yard, Kale meets Sola James, daughter of one of the owners. Kale and Sola bond and a close friendship develops. Young women are disappearing and Sola is kidnapped by the gang. Can these women be saved? Immortal Hearts is a spellbinding story filled with action and adventure. Once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. It was that good. Kale and Deacon are strong characters who accept their limitations and try to make life better. Sola is a complex lady. She is beautiful, hardworking and determined to be her own person. She and Kale have a strong relationship. They support and trust each other. She understands that he must search for his soul mate, Helene, and she wishes him the best. The end of this story is yet to come. I can't wait.
I have not read the books in Few are Angels series but after reading Immortal Heart i will be adding the rest of the series. You get to have more background story on Kale and he sounds so yummy. Kale and Deacon go undercover to discover where the missing girls are. While on their adventure Kale meets the beautiful Sola but will she be enough to heal his heart after centuries of trying to find his one true love that was lost to him. I want to read more of Kale and see if Deacon and Sola play any part in the series.
First off let me just say. I want a Kale of my very own! I loved reading this book. It gave me more insight to Kale. I loved Kale and Deacons relationship. They are so funny together. Sola was so sweet. I am looking forward to book 3 even more now. I may have to read books one and two over. Hopefully the next book will be out soon.
This story is about Kale before he found Ella..He is helping his friend Deacon who is another Chory solve a missing girls case..He meets a girl named Sola. This story is very well told and extremely captivating..It is very easy to read also. I loved this book..I can not wait to read more.
Kale and Detective Deacon are investigating a possible human trafficking ring when Kale meets the beautiful Sola. While Kale struggles between his never-ending ache for Helene and his newfound interest in Sola, crimes hit close to home.
I had read the first two books in the Few Are Angels series and was left hanging. So, when I heard a new book in this series was coming out, I was anxious to read this. Unfortunately, I realized too late this was a prequel. While it is interesting to know the events leading up to that fateful fight in the front yard in the middle of the night in the first book, it is not nearly as exciting to me as knowing what happens next after the end of the second book. Beware this book is just a prequel to the series, not a continuation. Unfortunately, that third book will not be released until next summer. We will all have to make do with this one. Sigh.
This prequel started out slow and read like paranormal crime fiction. It was slow enough for me to get laundry done and all of the floors mopped. For anyone joining the series, I am sure the book is great. Readers won’t be able to put this down. For me, though, it lacked those characters I had come to know and love. Sure, Kale was there. But, Deek is hardly introduced. It is interesting to see their relationship and made me want to reread the rest of the series just to see the nuances play out later. I just kept wondering what it all had to do with what happened later. It was…ho hum.
And then, the unbelievable, unthinkable, and downright disgusting happened. And I felt cheated on. I cannot say what happened because I don’t want to spoil the story. I began to not like the characters or the book. I stuck with it though to see how it all played out. I was not disappointed. About halfway through, the book got much better and more true to the later books. At that point, I could no longer put the book down and was glad I had cleaned earlier.
So, if you’re new to this story, you will love this. It is a mysterious, paranormal read where anything can happen. You might not understand everything that is going on but it will all become clear eventually. Characters are deep and well-developed. There is a whole society that exists that these characters are a part of. There are a couple of chapters with some descriptions that seemed like filler. New readers might wonder why a Chory finds a donut gross, but smokes and eats sunflower seeds without a problem. However, overall, this is an easy, fast read and interesting story.
If you have already read the first two books in this series, brace yourself. You are about to be betrayed. But, stick with it. It gets better and everything will make more sense. As an added bonus, if you stick with it until the end, there is a teasing treat at the end.
It is worth a read and I recommend this for young adults. Unless you have issues with vampires or the expression of desire and passion, given the sexual content, violence, and language, this is a pretty clean read.

He placed his hand on his chest. His non-beating heart had ceased distracting him long ago, but even after all this time, Kale still hoped to someday place his hand on his chest and feel the familiar thump of life pumping through his veins.
The Few Are Angels series has been on my radar for a while now. I had been so keen to read them, but always seemed to pick up something else to read instead. Immortal Heart has such a gorgeously pretty cover, but I have to admit that I wasn't especially taken in by the synopsis of this one. I wanted romance, and this one didn't scream romance to me. But when the chance to join the blog tour came up, I decided that this was the perfect chance to dive into this series.
I found the story to be quite a bit slow paced at the beginning and I didn't feel a great connection to the characters. I liked them well enough, but they just weren't jumping off the pages to grab my attention. But gradually I found the pacing picked up and I found myself really beginning to like Kale and Deacon although I don't think that I ever felt like I really got to know Sola very well at all. She came across as a nice character, but for me, she didn't have a lot of depth to her.
There is a bit of a romance here between Kale and Sola. Kale was pretty honest with Sola in telling her that his heart belonged to Helene, and that may have been why I didn't really feel a great connection with them as a couple, so I was actually really happy with the way the author played things out between them. I don't deny that the characters felt attraction towards each other, I just think that Kale's heart belongs to someone else so completely, that it was never going to go further than the few kisses that they shared.
"I belong to you," he told her, meaning every word. "My soul, my heart-everything that I am, and everything that I could ever be."
Kale always came across as so stoic and in control throughout most of the book, so the best part for me was about the last third of the book, which was gripping and exciting. This is when I think we really got some great insights into Kale's struggles. Firstly with the craving for blood and secondly with his love for Helene. It was this last third that sold the book for me. It may sound strange since he's not human, but getting a deeper look at his feelings really showed his human side and vulnerability.
I'm really keen to see how Kale and Ella's relationship is going to progress. Kale's love for Helene show's me so clearly the depths that his heart loves. His love for Helene appeared to have such tenderness to it. As I said, the last portion of the book sold the story for me and it's that part of the book that has me incredibly keen to continue with this series.
I have been excited to read this book since I finished Few Are Angels a while ago and when it won Book of the Month I was sooooo excited all over again!! Inger even helped gain some votes and support on the poll after I tweeted her - I just love it when an author joins in the fun!! Did you check out my interview with her?? If not - click here.
My Review:
One of the small things I loved about this book is that there is a song picked out at the beginning of every chapter. I only figured it by chapter 4 when I saw Florence & the Machine, as I was not familiar with the first few choices or bands - I thought they might be quotes or something. This little addition gives it a nice feel for the chapter.
Inger has a beautiful way with weaving together a story, it didn't take me long to be swept away.
Characters & Story line: 4/5
This prequel is more of Kale's story than of Kale and Helene/Ella. I really missed Ella's presence. As much as I enjoyed getting to know Kale, meeting Deacon and Sola - I loved Ella's character in Few Are Angels.
Kale - I love Kale's intensity. He is a bit of a tortured hero in this series but I love how Inger showed us his weaknesses as well. There are parts that really made my heart ache. Getting to know Kale is a beautiful story.
Deacon - Deacon is like the younger brother who is trying to tame his wild chory ways. Kale is so protective of him. I enjoyed his character and was so happy when Kale let him and Sola a little bit closer.
Sola - I was not too sure of Sola in the beginning. I liked her but she really grows on you throughout the story. I love her name and she really creeps into your heart. Sola is a beuatiful character and I hope we see her again in future books.
Plot, Pace, Writing style: 4/5
The plot jumps a bit between 1900 & 2010. Inger's writing style is so easy to follow and she slowly builds up intensity and creates intrigue. The pace was moderate. I enjoyed how Inger weaved in the meaning of the title Immortal heart and revealed the beautiy of it. It was such a touching moment in the story for me. The ending was ok for me, it gave closure. I really need to go re-read Few Are Angels to truly appreciate the significance of this book.
Cover talk: 5/5
I loved the cover. It is eye catching and sets the mood for the book beautifully.
Final Thoughts: Although I prefer Few are Angels, Immortal Heart lays some good groundwork and you get to know Kale in a difference light.
Enjoyable, interesting, engaging and entertaining.
Overall a really good story. Love the world the author has created for characters. It's always a plus when you find a new and interesting paranormal twist created by an author. This shows that they actually took the time to develop their story and the character's.
Kale and Deacon are both great characters. Sola was likable, just never connected with her character. So I'm glad the story played out the way it did. Started a little slow for me but by the time I was done with this story I was looking for the next book. I definitely will be continuing with the series.
Song titles as chapter headings, While I don't mind this and am familiar with most of the songs used, if this is not your normal genre of music the chapter titles have no meaning.
Needs to tighten up some of the dialogue. Saying hands free device repeatedly. Ok we get it, he's not holding his phone while he's driving. Chapter 2 there is a repeated phrase" the accented voice came from" Audio has a Fuzzy quality in some of the chapters for the first 17 chapters. This clears up at the start of chapter 18. If an audio has the fuzzy sound in the background I return it.
Jim Kent narrator - this is the first time I have heard him. Different voices for the characters. Female voices were pretty good as well. Nice pleasant voice. Regular part of the narration when he is not voicing a character is slightly flat/dry in the beginning. This may also have something to do with the audio quality. I have listened to previews for the other books he has narrated and he sounds great. He may just not have been the right narrator for this book.

I love it when an Author will go back and give us history that is so important in the forming of the character's we have grown to love. In this face pace novel you find yourself not wanting to set it down and you want to race through every page, but at the same time you want to savor every word. I am a huge fan of Inger's work. One of my top ten of all time. She writes characters that are real, vivid, and colorful. Mostly they are people we grow to love and will remember always. Thanks Inger for another great work.
Immortal Heart was an exciting and heart stopping book for me. As I discovered the back story of Kale and Deacon I was mesmerized by this book. As the scenes play out for me in my mind my heart flutters. When Kale for the first time meets Sola could she be the "one"? Can she be that person that heals Kales soul and aching heart and show him that love does exist? Oh how I so enjoyed watching all of these questions and more play out in this story. I really liked this book as it wasn't just boy meets girl they fall in love blah, blah, blah like so many others Immortal heart had so much more depth. The mystery and intrigue that went along with it as well truly helped make this book stand out for me and take notice as well as dive into it and not want to put it down. Inger Iverson masterfully captures you in her works by placing you the reader into the book and letting you walk through as if she had meant for you to be there. I truly enjoyed reading this story and may have to keep this on my to be read again shelf.
I wish I had known this was a prequel when I received it from the Author. I would have been much happier reading this BEFORE book 1 and 2.
That being said I still enjoyed this book greatly. I got to see an entirely new side of Kale that you truly never expected to see. It was also interesting to see him before he met Ella. I love how we get to see more of his inner struggles and what makes him tick.
There were multiple points of view in this book, we got to see a bit about Deacon and boy he has some issues. Then we have Sola who is witty and spunky and so much fun to read.
I will say from my own mind I prefer to read books in order, I'm a tad bit anal like that. But you don't need to read this one before book 1 or 2. All in all it is well worth the read and a ton of fun!
Copy received from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I was immediately intrigued by this prequel. It was a promising start to a series that combined all the elements I love about paranormal romances, but with a refreshing twist to the norm.
However, I did find that as this story developed, I became a bit bored with it. The characters were all great, and the plotline was interesting, but something about it just didn’t hold my attention. At times it was a little too predictable, and Sola and Kale’s relationship was a bit strange. I felt that certain events in this book could have been deleted as they really didn’t make any change to the main story, and they had only been included as fillers.
I am excited to get into the real story of Kale’s search for the Arc, and the history the involved Helene, Laurent and the Eternal Council.
Review: I was given a review copy of Immortal Heart by Reading bliss for an honest review. This is the prequel to Few are angels. This takes place before Kale meets Ella. It was cool to see Kale walking through life more than a century after Hélène's death and before he even meets Ella. I liked learning about Kale and the things that he struggled with inside. I liked the backstory of the blood trafficking. It was interesting and added to the story. I really liked this story. It was good and gave me more insight to Kale and why he is the way he is. There is dual POV in this story. I give it 4 out of 5 stars! Good job Inger!
Immortal Heart is a prequel to Few Are Angels about Kale that takes place before he met Ella. I was excited to read this to learn more about Kale how his life was 100 years pre Ella, meeting his friend Deacon and learning about Sola and if she was ‘the one’ for Kale.
I enjoyed reading this but without Ella it was kind of strange.
I guess it may have been better if I had read this before Few Are Angels and it puts a lot of things in place with Kale.
It was a little slow to begin with but did pick up pace and again well written but I would recommend that if people want to read the series they might like to start with this one.
First off I'm a newbie to this series so that fact that I read this quickly and was hooked right from the start should say something. Sometimes the vampire series/books can get redundant. There was nothing redundant or dull about this book or the vamp theme....
Great series, was alittle confused at first on immortal Hearts. I was trying to figure out were it fit. Till half way through. But I realized I should have read that one first. Would of made more sense. This story had more insight on Kyle and Helene. I was given a copy from the author for my honest review.
Ooooooh I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!! Kale has my heart <3 Loved this story about Sola and Kale. It was good to see Kale before Ella comes along. To have a love like this and have it taken away from you. Then knowing that you had to wait for whatever amount time for your loves soul to come back... Oooh the heartache. I couldn't put it down. Inger Iverson is GIFTED AND AMAZING!!!!
This book is very disconnected from the others in the series. It filled in a few gaps, but as far as the big picture goes I wish I had just read the first 2 books, or read this one first.
