THEY CAN TALK THE TALK, BUT CAN THEY WALK THE WALK?

Sierra, Raine, and Liza are Destiny’s Divas, a fresh, new gospel group whose unique blend of singing and testifying has gained them fans across the country. They tell the world about how good God has been to them, but off-stage, each is living a life totally opposite to what she preaches—and each is harboring a secret that could ruin them all.

Twenty-something Sierra Dixon speaks about the joy of being single and celibate, though she is anything but, drifting from one relationship to another. Although she stresses the importance of unconditional love within the family, Raine Omari has hit her breaking point with her mother-in-law and is ready to take drastic steps. And when Liza Washington discovers that her pastor-husband is in the middle of a scandal that could bring down more than just their ministry, she knows she must do something to stop him. One fateful evening their secrets are exposed, and one diva commits an act that could land her in prison for the rest of her life. Each has motive—who will crack?

As always, VCM did not disappoint!

When I first started this novel, I was not sure how I would feel about it.
I thought this might have been a book for younger audiences until I got to the more mature nature of the story line (Raine and Liza). I loved everything about the story and the triple-shocker at the end just brought it more over the edge. VCM could easily make a sequel or even a prequel to this book if she wanted to, because it definitely leaves the readers wanting more. Well done!

Even though VCM is a longtime friend, I decided I wasn't going to read this book because of the title I assumed it was part of her teen series. Boy was I wrong! This book made me mad for so many reasons... The 3 woman in this book definitely had testimonies. After reading this book my conclusion is that teens also need to read this book for the education and life lessons. Well done VCM.... And she knows I wouldn't just give praise because of friendship. She hit on subjects that really need to be talked about and educate people.

I liked it but could not believe the gullibility of one of the divas, too much left at the end, a bit thin in content in the middle except for a few conflicts and hypocrisies exposed that were pretty much understood anyway.

I was intrigued by this book and ultimately it did not disappoint. There were a few things that the author kind of tricked me on (in a good way) and I had thought I knew what was going to happen and was thrown in a whole different direction.
Each of the Divas' storylines sucked me in eventually, some sooner than others. Probably the one I most enjoyed was Raine; I loved how she was so steadfast when it came to her daughter and mother-in-law. Usually in these kinds of instances the characters tend to cave in at some point but she never wavered, and I dig that. Liza's story sucked me in farther the more I read about it; so many layers were added and yet uncovered by the end. And Sierra...well, let's just say that in a way, I was kind of glad to see what happened to her happen to her. I certainly wouldn't want it to happen to me, but her whole attitude and hypocritical stance was a turn-off for me from the beginning. It was a good example of reaping what you sow and reciprocity. And it prompted me to have a talk with my nieces about the kinds of things they send out to people digitally. It also made me kind of wonder how many current gospel stars are living lives that are completely out of line with what they sing about onstage.
One thing I did take note of, though, was there wasn't a lot of intricacy as far as the actual group was concerned; outside of the bookend performances and a few meetings in between, there wasn't a lot said about the inner workings...I would have been interested to read about how one of their rehearsals went, or something like that. I know the beginning of their tour was detailed some, and there was the City of Lights performance, but it's almost like they just kind of jumped onstage after having done nothing as far as preparation. The three of them, as a group, just didn't feel very connected or like they had any kind of relationship at all (and maybe they didn't). It was just like it was three women with three separate stories who all happened to be in a singing group together. But maybe that was the intent.
Overall this was a good read for me and I'll probably read it again at some point. I can certainly appreciate the message of the characters.

So if I dig it or dog it, I dig it. :)

This was the third book that I have read by Victoria Christopher Murray. The other two books that I read were Temptation and A Sin and a Shame: A Novel. In this book, Destiny's Divas are a female, gospel group consisting of members Raine, Sierra, and Liza.

The group is unique because the members include testimonies in their concerts. Raine's testimony is related to the unconditional love that she shares with her family. Sierra's testimony is related to celibacy, despite her not practicing celibacy at all. Liza's testimony is related to having a lasting marriage.

On stage the women share almost perfect testimonies; however, behind the scenes, each member is struggling with the very things about which they testify. These struggles eventually cause issues and public scandal for the group, especially since the group depends on these testimonies.

I expected there to be more about the women as a group and their camaraderie, but they did not really have any. The group was just starting out, so this may have had some impact on that. As a result, there is very little interaction between the three characters. Instead, the chapters focus more on the character's personal problems with their immediate family and friends. There is a lot of backstory and flashbacks for the characters, so you get to know a lot about them.

The three ladies in this book are interesting characters and have interesting stories, although Sierra is a little over the top. Sierra reminds me a lot of Jasmine from [[book:Temptation|1813548] and A Sin and a Shame: A Novel, which is not a good thing.

There are several contemporary issues addressed in this book through the character's stories, as well as some age old issues, too. Even mentioning them here would take away from the surprises of the book, so I will refrain from mentioning them. Nevertheless, the attempt to attack these issues was my favorite part of the book. They are all important issues that are not always discussed out in the open. I applaud Victoria Christopher Murray for taking on such issues with this book.

This story ended up being an example to readers that shows no one is perfect. Even those who call themselves Christian and profess to live as such still have to struggle with real problems to do so. Sometimes, they make mistakes in this struggle, but it can still be possible to come out on top.

Because of the way the prologue starts, there is a little bit of suspense that keeps you guessing. On the other hand, some parts of the book are predictable. Overall, this is an average read. I am glad that I did not purchase it, but it may be good for a library read.

Raine, Sierra, and Liza are Destiny's Divas. They are a singing group. Although, they are a little different. As they don't just sing but also preach. Sierra preaches to women about virginity. Raine was a former superstar singer and then she found her calling with Destiny's Divas. Liza is the wife of a pastor. These three women look to rise to the top. The only thing that can stop them is murder.

This is the third book I have read by this author. I just love her. She really brings to life her characters. She usually writes about strong women with a faith in God. My favorite was Raine. She had a lot to really fight for with her mother in law when it came to her daughter, Nadia. Old traditions mixed with the technology world of the present. I knew what Raine's mother in law's intent was when she was refering for Nadia and the procedure she wanted to do to her. I felt sorry for Nadia. I had read this tradition in another book. It is a terrible thing.

Sierra, I did not care for much in the beginning. She was a user of men and yet she wanted to pretend what she did was alright. It was not alright and as Sierra learned in the end as it bit her in the butt.

Liza, I did feel some what sorry for but not 100%. Sorry that she did not see the signs sooner when it came to her husband but not sorry when she did learn the truth but she did nothing about it right away.

Although, these three women are very different, they worked well together. I like how this book was set up. Each chapter was a different voice of the women. THis helped to allow me to really get to know the women better. The ending was a good one. Victoria Christopher Murray scores a perfect melody with Destiny's Divas!

Brilliant,I enjoyed the book from the beginning to the end. Ms. Murray took us on a journey highlighting the struggles of the members of a rising and sensational gospel group. The three member group comprised of 3 women decades apart.

There is Sierra the twenty- something who proclaimed a life of celibacy but did the opposite behind closed doors. She struggles with insecurities stemming from her childhood and lack of a father figure. She tries to use sex to find a soul mate to fill the void of not knowing her father. She almost found love but lost it due to a sexting scandal.
Next we are taken on a journey with the thirty-something former R&B sensation Raine. Raine married to her African prince blessed with a beautiful daughter. Testifies about unconditional love but privately she struggles to gain the love and approval of her mother –in-law. Raine's struggle stemmed from cultural differences and addresses the issue of marriage between different cultures.

Last but not the least we catch glimpse into the life and struggles of the forty-something child bride First Lady Liza Washington, she testifies about love and a lasting marriage, but privately she battles with her children’s desertion from home and a husband who had a secret that destroyed the family, ministry and the love she had for him from a very young age.

In this novel the author portrays a message of God’s love, his redemptive and restoration power. There is definitely a need for a sequel to let the reader know how the group got back on its feet and the downfall from the sexting scandal and if the divas ever found love again. Particularly I will like to see Sierra find love with the right man for the right reasons.

DESTINY’S DIVAS
BY: VICTORIA CHRISTOPHER MURRAY
4****
‘I am that I am…but are you all that you claim to be…’

Destiny’s Divas is a new gospel group that not only sing praises to the Highest, but they also testify to HIS grace and mercy encompassing their lives. Rainebow gave up singing secular music and jumpstarted the trio into a singing group. Meanwhile, Rainebow’s spouse is of African heritage and there’s a feeling of unease with her condescending mother-in-law constantly critiquing their daughter and her upbringing. 1st Lady, Liza adores and respects her husband but there’s a hint of destruction within the church realms and he’s in the midst of the secrets. Sierra is the youngest member of group, and her testimony is that she is saved, single and celibate…even though upon close inspection, her lifestyle speaks otherwise.

VCM has once again penned a monumental read that addresses issues of ‘church folk’ and their struggle in today’s society. Celebrities live in glass houses, but can these three divas withstand the backlash that they have primed themselves for? The small inconsistencies that they proclaim can ruin the dynasty they’ve laid the foundation for. Will GOD save these Divas destinies…or will their chastening justify the means to their end?

Liza, Raine, and Sierra are the members of the gospel group Destiny’s Divas in the latest novel from Victoria Christopher Murray. Raine is the front woman of the group. She had found previous fame in the secular forum and wanted to make a comeback. Raine seems to have the perfect life but no one knows the drama that happens within the home with her mother-in-law. The other two women also have secrets that they hope will not be exposed.

Liza is married to a preacher that is definitely not about His word and everyone, including the church is trying their best to keep his secret from being exposed. Sierra is the youngest member of the group and she claims to be celibate, but she is a fraud. Murray explores each woman’s journey and to what lengths they will go to from keeping their secrets from getting exposed.

As always, Victoria Christopher Murray does not disappoint with her storytelling skills. I felt as if I was an invisible character in the story experiencing each twist and turn with the ladies. Destiny’s Divas is a true page-turner and will keep you in suspense until the very last page.

Once you open this book you won't be able to put it down until finished.
We follow three generations with Sierra, being the youngest, Raine the woman with a 12 year old, and Liza a Mother of grown children.
They are now the hottest new gospel group sensation, and about to begin a tour across the US.
As we look into the lives of these strong woman, we see that things are not as they appear. Each is locked into their own struggle, and we move along with them throughout the book. As each grows stronger and more determined, we find the hand of God on each.
Surprising ending and not exactly like I thought it would be...I of course want more of these woman...please let us move on with them!
Can't say enough about how great the writing is in this book, it moves along so smoothly!

I received this book from the Publisher Simon and Schuster, and was not required to give a positive review.

This book was a goodreads giveaway book. It was a pretty good book. There may be some spoilers here... but it basically gives you all this information in the first few pages...
Sierra, Liza, and Raine belong to a gospel group called Destiny's Diva. The group is representative of three decades of women. Each woman testifies about the part of their life they are proud of, but there are many secrets and lies....and soon they will be exposed. Read and find out what the secrets are, and how they are exposed.

Victoria Christopher Murray has done it again! This book was entertaining, exciting, suspenseful, and unpredictable. The three members of Destiny's Divas are having a hard time practicing what they preach, and eventually their lies catch up with them. I had a HARD time putting this book down. I can't wait for the next book that Victoria Christopher Murray writes! She is a gifted writer.

I enjoyed the book. It follows the lives of three women who are together involved in a successful gospel group but individually struggle with personal issues. Their problems range from looking for Mr Right to infidelity to problems with in-laws. The characters are rich and the writing approach is engaging as it moves back and forth between the individual stories.

This book was definitely full of suspense. It tells a story of three women who are singing for the Lord, but have a lot to hide in their personal lives. I think a lot of Christian women can probably relate to some of the struggles of the characters in this book.

1. Patricia Floyd is an excellent voice actor and gave a masterful performance.

2. Victoria Christopher Murray told an amazing story about three Christian women struggling to co-exist as Gospel singers in a group called Destiny's Divas. VCM writes about real issues and delved into the topics regarding female genital mutilation, pedophilia and sexting. The book also highlights the struggle Christians dave in the spotlight.

3. VCM did a decent job with character development with Raine, Liza and Sierra. My only wish is that she provided more interaction as a group instead of primarily focusing on their individual lives.

4. Raine courageously stepped away from a successful R&B career to follow God's call on her life to sing Gospel music. VCM illustrates the intricacies of marriage, and Raine and Dayo's relationship was especially challenging because of cultural differences. I applauded Raine's decision to have her mother-in-law move out of their apartment. Dayo and his mother's relationship is a good example of "mama's boy" failures. I question whether Dayo should have known that his mother was capable of inflicting the ultimate horror that occurred at the end of the book. The criticism I have for Raine's storyline was the penalty she received when Beerlulu was killed. There was no premeditation in the act that occurred, and charging her with first degree murder was an unrealistic stretch for the book. Raine should have been charged with manslaughter, and because she could afford a top defense attorney the final sentence of 64 months was also excessive based on the circumstances.

5. Liza is a pastor's wife who was unfortunately forced into an "arranged" marriage by her parents at the age of 16. Her parents thought they were making the best decision based on their circumstances, however, no one realized that Liza's husband was a pedophile. Liza was a child bride whisked away from a small town in Alabama to the city of New York without the security comfort and guidance from her parents. Mann was a monster who abused his daughter in addition to other underage girls in his ministry. This storyline is a cautionary tale for young girls who are too naive to understand how older men groom and prey upon youth.

6. Sierra was the youngest of the group, who relied on her beauty for “success” and developed a counterfeit testimony to try and find a husband. Her lies landed her in the singing group with Raine and Liza, and she continued to propagate her deceit in spite of warnings from multiple people. Sierra lived her life in “silos”, which toxically divorced her from reality. She falsely thought that her actions did not impact other areas of her life. Sierra had multiple issues in her life, and a big problem was her relationship with men. Unfortunately her men problems stemmed from her mother’s inadequate example. This is another cautionary tale regarding the consequences of sexting.

"It's hard to help someone with their spiritual oxygen mask when yours isn't properly in place." Destiny's Divas is as timely today as it was twenty years ago when first published. A pastor's wife who portrays her marriage as perfect, a happily married woman and former rock star who preaches perfect love for the entire family, a young woman who proudly proclaims herself single and celibate. These three form the newly formed, instant-celebrity Destiny's Divas. Life is looking good --until the truth comes to light and lies are revealed. Christians aren't perfect. They are a work in progress. And God is good.

This book is crazy! Sierra got what she deserved. She was an idiot. My heart went out to Raine. I don't know why it took Liza so long to realize her husband was a pedophile. It's an intriguing book but like one review I read, there didn't seem to be a real relationship between the three women. It was like Raine just picked the other two up to be in a group and that was that. She didn't really know them or try to get to know them on a deeper level. Yvonne had more insight into what Sierra was doing than Raine did. I would think since she's the creator of the group, she would be a lot more interested and invested in what her fellow band mates are doing and/or into. 3.5 Stars.

Victoria Christopher Murray in her new book, “Destiny’s Divas” published by Touchstone brings us into the life of Sierra, Raine, and Liza. the three women of the gospel group, Destiny’s Divas.

From the back cover: THEY CAN TALK THE TALK, BUT CAN THEY WALK THE WALK?

As human beings what is the one thing we all like to keep? The answer, secrets. What is the one thing that God knows that we should not keep because it is detrimental to, not only our health, but our relationships as well? You guessed it, secrets. What is the one thing that Sierra, Raine, and Liza have in common? Of course, secrets. Ms. Murray does a wonderful job of showing us how each woman’s secrets affect not only their relationship with each other but their families as well. Plus these secrets make them hypocritical before God and their public as well. “Destiny’s Divas” is a story about guilt, bad choices and forgiveness. Each woman makes huge mistakes and it takes God to work out everything in their lives and, for some, the consequences of their actions are steep. Ms. Murray has created an impressive cast of characters that live and breathe, that we care about and all of them are interesting in their own way, good and bad. Ms. Murray gets us caught up in the story and the characters lives to the point that we actually hate to say goodbye to them when the book ends. ”Destiny’s Divas” is a story of hope and redemption. I liked this book very much and look forward to more from the pen of Victoria Christopher Murray.

This book was good from beginning to end; I was even tempted to skip to the back to see if the conclusions I came up with (about the outcomes of the characters) were right.
Sierra, the youngest of the group, doesn't think about the consequences of her actions; she thinks that she lives in a fantasy world where your lies never catch up to you. Rainebow "Raine" the R&B turned Gospel singer (who is also the creator of the group) lives the life that all of us wish we could live; she has a devoted husband, a beautiful child and she has devoted her life to following GOD...if only the elephant in the room would co-operate her life would be a dream. Last, but not least, Liza, the "Big City Preacher's" wife. Liza is the oldest of the group and the one who's testimony make anyone in a relationship long for what she has...the long, happy, strong marriage; but you might rethink that when you find out what her marriage is based upon.
I couldn't put this book down (and when I had to I couldn't wait to pick it back up), it is just that good. You'll see when you read it, if your anything like me you'll be yelling at these women like "really, you couldn't tell that was about to happen". LOL. Loved it.

Victoria Christopher Murray's novels get stronger and stronger. Destiny's Divas is the story of three women representing three decades who form the singing group of the same name. Murray expertly captures the varying maturity levels of the different women, naturally and spiritually. She gets their characters, imbuing them with appropriate dialogue and angst. These women collectively represent a large number of women, women who are hiding questionable behavior, women who are fighting relationship battles, women who are in denial about what is really going on in their lives. In the end, it is satisfying to see each woman come to terms with the portion of her life that needs cleansing. I'm hoping this series will continue, that we'll see more of Sierra, Raine and Liza, three captivating, women ultimately striving to live for God.
