Writers-blocked romance author Mia Watson has no idea what to do with her life now that she’s caught her husband cheating and said bon voyage to him and his cocky mistress at the last port.
Except maybe take the two-week cruise she won to get away from it all.
But stumbling across a dead body drags her and her new friends into a deadly mystery where the only prize for solving it is getting out alive…
Join Mia and the gang on a fast-paced adventure aboard the SS Bella Blanca as she breaks out of her shell, and her cardigan, to become a heroine fit for a story all her own.
Set sail with this funny, sassy, fast-paced cozy mystery series today!
Held at 3.5 stars for a long time, but I really liked the ending. Not as good as the first book, in my opinion, but still a great cozy mystery. And I'm excited to see where Mia goes from here!
I said it in my last review and I'll say it again - these books drag on for way too long. There is way too much filler content that isn't needed.
A 200 page book with a good story is ideal. The author needs to stop trying to get a higher page count because it's such a negative impact on the story.
This book moved at a snail's pace. Things were repeated over and over again. It took the characters foreverrrrr again to solve the case. The bad guy was obvious really early on.
I really enjoy the characters in the series which is why this is so frustrating.
There is nothing wrong with a shorter book. Some stories are meant to be told in less pages. I've read some killer novellas this week that were under 200 pages and were perfect!
The next book is my last try on this series - mostly because I'm using it to fill a spot on my October Book Bingo card. If the pacing isn't better, that will be the last one I read.
After reading Sinister Sailing and liking the characters, I was ready to read Deadly Dining. I liked that it was twice as long as the first book. As Mia Watson's adventures continue, she has just won a two-week cruise after she was able to solve the murder mystery. And she has decided to fill out an application for the job as assistant cruise director on the Bella Blanca, because her marriage is over and she doesn't want to go home. But instead of forgetting her worries for a few days and learning her way around the ship, her room is ransacked, Cruise Director Lucas Chalmers is found dead, and passenger Owen Winston goes missing. Luckily for Mia, Edie Eddington and her grandson are still on board the ship and ready for action. I enjoyed reading the second book in this series. The authors do a good job of sharing what it's like on a cruise ship and their books are well written and entertaining.
This was another fun cruise adventure for Mia, the soon-to-be assistant cruise director…that is, if she didn’t get killed first or worse! Having a crazy person after her wasn’t exactly Mia’s idea of a fun cruise, but she did meet some really cool retired policemen who she ended up playing poker with in a tournament…along with chasing down clues and suspects, literally! I was completely wrong about whodunit and loved the reveal. Can’t wait to read the novella that comes next!
I wanted to like this series but I can’t do it. It plays absolute havoc with the reality of how cruise ships operate. And seriously, what the heck do sunflowers even smell like and why would anyone have that as their signature scent!
Just too many stupid things for me to continue to overlook.
This is the 2nd book in the series. The main characters are Mia Watson and her friend Edie. Mia is on a cruise ship when she and her friend find a dead body. They were looking for Coach but found Lucas dead. Now they are looking for Coach and trying to find out who is behind all of this. Mia is getting answers but can she put it together before it's too late?
Mia, a romance writer, caught her husband cheating so she took a 2 week cruise she won. It's a mystery cruise that everyone gets more than they bargained for. This is a great mystery at sea to figure out.
This was a stronger book than the first in the series. The characters became more fully developed and I began to care about them more. I am not sure I can envision the main character as a cruise ship employee, but it has held up so far.
The basic character arc seemed familiar to me. Older married woman finds her husband having an affair, goes on a cruise, solves murders. . . That’s Patricia Fisher, by Steve Higgs.
Given a choice between Mia Watson and Patricia Fisher, I choose Mrs. Fisher.
