One of the largest and oldest living trees on the planet, the Baobab is unlike any other tree. These are trees which can live to many thousands of years in age and have over the years been used as houses, bars, prisons and storage barns. They provide food for enormous numbers of animals such as elephants baboon and antelope and support huge ecosystems. This book gives an insight into these awesome trees, and how to grow them from seed. Includes nine photos, informative links to sites on Baobabs and an active table of contents.
This was a nostalgic trip back to Africa and the Baobab trees. There were two photos that were spectacular: the Grandidier's Baobab and the Australian baobab trees.
The photos were pint-sized; I sense that the author was trying to show the overall majesty of these magnificent trees. However, it was hard to see the details. Even the photo of the author was postage stamp sized.
One thing I was surprised by was the possibility of growing a baobab on one's own! I thought they would only live in hot, arid climates. Bruce Bullock even offers websites where baobab seeds are sold!
