About the author

Jennifer Bassett has been a teacher, teacher trainer, editor, and materials writer, and has taught in England, Greece, Spain, and Portugal. She is the Series Editor of the Oxford Bookworms Library, and has written more than twenty original and retold stories for the series, including The Phantom of the Opera, One-Way Ticket, The President's Murderer, and William Shakespeare. Two of her adaptations, Rabbit-Proof Fence and Love Among the Haystacks, have won Language Learner Literature Awards, and three of her other titles have been finalists for the Awards. She has created a new sub-series called Bookworms World Stories, which are collections of short stories written in English from around the world. She has also written original stories for the English Today Readers and Storylines series. Jennifer is series co-adviser, with H.G. Widdowson, of the Oxford Bookworms Collection, volumes of unadapted short stories for advanced learners.

أجدها جيدة قليلاً ،لكن مسار سير أحداثها بطيء ،تمنيتُ بأن تكون الأحداث أسرع ، يعيبها هذه المرة ليس كثرة الشخصيات بل كثرة الأوصاف ،ولكنها هي ضرورية لبناء أي قصة في العالم لذلك لايمكنني التذمر بخصوصها .

في النهاية يتضح بأن الأبن المفقود ماهو إلا الابن الثاني والخاطف قريب جدًا من الدوق لذلك سهل عليه عمل كل ذلك ،وهدفه كان أن يعترف به الدوق كابن أول له،انا كنت افضل بأن يكون سبب الإختطاف طمعًا في المال وليس من أجل هذا السبب ،لان البداية كانت مشوقة ،الفصول المتوسطة في القصة هي المملة بالفعل ،قد أشفقت على ذاك المعلم الألماني الذي كان هدفه فقط الإلحاق بالطفل فانتهى أمره بأن يموت .

I would like to introduce the book “Sherlock Holmes and the Duke’s Son”, written by author Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock Holmes is one of the most famous detective character in the world.
The story is about the important case which is investigated by Sherlock Holmes. Government Minister’s son was kidnapped when he was in his school. Moreover, the German teacher was killed at the moor in the same day.
Who was kidnapper? And what happen to the German teacher? We can find the answer in this book. Let’s read.

Me ha gustado muchísimo este pequeño librito. Es muy adictivo. Como está en inglés y son de los que se lee en el instituto, ha sido muy corto. La serie que hay en la portada del libro la he visto y me ha encantado. Me leeré este libro en la versión extendida. Como conclusión me ha encantado. 19/01/2021.

This is one of the better Sherlock stories, I think. Again, I did read this one as a super simplified version in Mandarin to help me learn, but still. Better than some of the others.

الأحداث غير متوقعة جدا ، النهاية مفاجئة، تبدأ القصة باختطاف ابن الدوق من مدرسته وهو ابن أحد وزراء الحكومة الذي هو شخص مهم جدا ، يذهب مدير المدرسة لطلب المساعدة من المحقق الشهير شارلوك هولمز، تبدو القضية في البداية غامضة ، حلها غير ممكن، في كل مرة نكتشف شيئا جديدا عنها، إلى أن نعرف الخاطف الحقيقي غير المتوقع لابن الدوق.
في نهاية القصة بالطبع سيجد شارلوك الخاطف الحقيقي لكنه أيضا كشف لنا شيئا عن نفسه عندما قال " أنا رجل فقير" مع ابتسامة ماكرة.

อ่านเล่มนี้สองรอบละ รอบแรกตอนที่ยังไม่มี skill ด้านภาษามากนัก หัดอ่านใหม่ ๆ เวลาผ่านไปสักระยะ (หลายปีพอสมควร) ก็ลองกลับไปอ่านใหม่อีกรอบเพื่อเก็บรายละเอียด ทำให้รู้สึกว่าอ่านอีกรอบ อ่านง่ายขึ้น เข้าใจง่ายขึ้นชนิดที่เรียกว่าไม่ต้องดูคำศัพท์จากด้านข้างเลย เดาจากบริบทของเรื่องเอา ถือเป็นบทพิสูจน์ว่าถ้าตั้งใจทำอะไรก็สามารถพัฒนาได้นะ ^^

I read this book with my A2 English class here in Rome. It's great material to use in a class that level.

Because it is a Easy Reader, it was a quick read. The story itself was interesting but missing a lot of Doyle's original flair.
