Born in Jackson, Mississippi in 1941, Malcolm Shuman grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was educated at Louisiana State University, which awarded him a B.A. in 1962 in the fields of geography & anthropology. Shuman then had the privilege of serving in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966 where, as a member of the military police, he was assigned to Sandia Base New Mexico, with a Top Secret security clearance.
Besides some of the info on Mayan history I didn't think the book was very good. My expectations weren't super high but it still fell flat for me. The plot was disjointed and it almost seemed like the author was just making things up as he went. There were a bunch of out of nowhere reveals at the end. I found the relationship stuff a bit tedious/uninteresting.
Trying to locate Mayan ruins, fighting mosquitoes, heat, drug dealers, makes an exciting story line. The thrill of locating lost ruins keeps your interest.
