Jordan Sommerville, healer of helpless animals, rescuer of strays, a man who could seduce a woman with his voice alone. Yet he didn't use that power often. His brothers kidded that he was holding out for a paragon of virtue...and not many in Buckhorn qualified. But then he met Georgia, and broke all his own rules.

Georgia Barnes supported herself and her kids as a dancer--an exotic dancer. If Jordan Sommerville didn't like it, he could take a hike. So what if he was the most caring, gentle, desirable man she'd ever known--he was still a man like all the rest.

Surely he couldn't be as perfect as he looked...or could he?

Jordan Sommerville for me was hard to like. Judgmental and rude at the same time lusting for that which he was disgusted by. He goes to a bar the next town over that has been causing drunks to drive through his town causing issues. There he sees Georgia, he is unable to look away, and when things he deems as wrong happen he tries to defend her and instead cause havoc.

Georgia Barnes loves to dance, just not this kind of dancing, but as a single mother she will do anything to take care of her ailing mother and her two kids. While the annoying butt-in-ski is sexy she has no time for his judgement and type.

After the melee that starts the book, things happen that force her to let him help her and her family. This is when he will grow on you. She was a strong independent character. I loved she would do anything to support those she loved.

A good read, 3.5-stars.

Synopsis: Jordan, the most quiet Hudson brother, meets a lady he can't deny in the middle of a loud raucous bar room burlesque. Georgia, the divorced mother of two children, is struggling to make ends meet any way she can--even if it means dancing for town drunks. When Jordan comes to the bar to talk to the owner about controlling his patrons and limiting the beer they're allowed to drink, he gets caught up in Georgia's hectic world. Will Jordan convince Georgia that he is nothing like the other men she's known? Will Georgia find the home and family she has always longed for?

The Good: The premise promises lots of laughs: a shy, blushing veterinarian that keeps himself on a short leash meets a spunky, exotic danger. It just seems so unlikely. So different. But Georgia is different than I imagined.c Despite her job as a dancer, Georgia is shy and certainly not a sexual goddess. She is, in fact, rather normal: working to pay the bills, struggling to do the dishes, relying on her mother to babysit. This works. It really works.

In a slew of paranormal romances, mystery romances, etc., where couples are being chased by creatures and criminals, it was enjoyable to move from that into a simple contemporary tale.

Years ago, I read a funny and smart essay by David Sedaris about how he and his lover Hugh went to see The End of the Affair. Sedaris chides his lover for crying at the sentimentalized tragedy and condemns Hollywood and fiction for giving us all an unreal sense of true love and romance. He says that no one tells stories about real love: "for good reason: our lives are boring. The courtship had its moments, but [then it] becomes the Predictable Part-II no one in his right mind would ever pay to see. "'Look, they're opening the electric bill!)

That said, Foster manages to make worrying about an electric bill as important and vital as it is in real life. In other words, she manages to make a love story about what love is really about: partnership, finding that person that you want to walk beside you for the rest of your life.

The Bad: Foster's immediate love-and-lust storytelling rests on a paradigm that I am not comfortable with. After reading a few books in this particular brother series, I am starting to see a pattern in which soul mates and mates aren't far apart, where The One is recognizable by the fact that seeing him or her induces uncontrollable animal lust. Adjectives like savage, primitive, and animal abound whenever the couples near each other.

In some ways, I welcome this candor about desire, this awareness that--when it comes to sex--man and woman aren't all that different. But, each time, its the woman who runs from sex. And each time, heat is the equivalent of being in heat. I would like to see it happen differently in this series at least one time. Fingers crossed as I eagerly move on to read Casey's story.

The Ugly: The Cover. Oh, the cover...

We’ve all been there. We’re wandering through a bookstore, or maybe  aimlessly searching suggestions, looking at  random lists on Amazon.com for something to read. Happily, we traipse through booktopias convinced that we’re going to find something wonderful to read and then… We are greeted with this:

Before I begin, I feel I must point out one very simple fact:

Most authors get absolutely no input in their covers, or, if they do, it’s mostly a kind of courtesy. Publishers rule. Authors weep and hope for reprints.

Challenge accepted. Unleashing Mockery… NEW and OLD covers!!!

Lori Foster Jordan Buckhorn Brothers

So.We're given the choice between Naked Man whose-existential-angst-in-the-dark-void-has-left-him-anxious-enough-to-wear-a- whole-in-his-pants-with-his-elbow and a man who clearly loves his pet too much. Oh. The. Horror. Only in a world of cloudy blue skies and green grass and licking puppies and gooberish fellows would naked-nipple man make a good cover.

Can you hear me crying?

Forgive the cover artists, for they know not what they do.

Good book about the last of the four brothers to find love. Jordan has always felt a little different than his (half)brothers. His father was no prize, and Jordan has spent his life consciously ensuring that he's nothing like his old man. He doesn't drink, lie, or lead women on. Even as a kid, he was sensitive to animals, so it's no surprise he became a vet. He's active in the community, and that volunteerism is what got him where he is as the book opens. With several other townspeople, he arrives at a seedy bar just over the county line to ask the bar owner to limit the number of drinks he serves to people. Their town has had trouble with the drunks causing problems and damage there. But Jordan is distracted from his mission when a dancer appears on the stage.

I admit that I thought Jordan was extremely judgmental when he saw the dancer, making assumptions about her character and virtue. That didn't stop him from being attracted to her and envisioning what he'd like to do with her. Despite his attitude, he intervened when he saw her being accosted by a drunk customer after her dance. This started a brawl that ended with the police being called. With Jordan and the dancer from Buckhorn, their police chief was called to take custody of them. While waiting for the chief, who is Jordan's older brother, Jordan continues his judgey attitude in comments to her. It doesn't go over well.

Georgia is beyond angry with Jordan. She copes with the customers all the time without any problems. Thanks to Jordan, this night was a disaster. I loved seeing her blast him for his judgmental statements and set him straight about his interference. Georgia is a single mother who waitresses and dances to support her children and mother. She is fiercely independent and refuses to rely on anyone else. The home she bought is a fixer-upper, and the process is slow. She doesn't need to deal with Jordan's attitude, too. Complicating matters is her intense attraction for him, thanks to his gorgeous looks and sexy voice.

I laughed out loud at Jordan's teasing from his brother Morgan when he arrived to take custody of the two miscreants. It was fun to see Morgan's opinion of the sparks between Jordan and Georgia and Jordan's outright denial. Morgan and Jordan won points with me when they helped Georgia deal with the crisis waiting for her when she got home. In the process, Jordan realized he'd been a complete jerk and tried to make things up to her. There were sweet and fun scenes at the hospital as Georgia's kids took to Jordan and Morgan, and Jordan's nephew Casey also became part of the mix. Jordan's gentler nature comes out in his unexpected need to take care of her, which freaks him out more than a little.

I loved watching Georgia get absorbed into the entire family's lives, as everyone found a way to help her. Georgia is overwhelmed by the kindness and attention and doesn't know what to make of it. She isn't used to that sort of thing. The more time she spends with Jordan, the harder it becomes to resist him. At the same time, Jordan discovers that while his attraction is still just as strong, he also finds himself wanting more. His growing feelings are frequently expressed in bouts of overprotectiveness which rub Georgia the wrong way and become a huge distraction. It takes time and his brothers pointing out the obvious for Jordan to realize the truth of his feelings, but he isn't sure of Georgia's feelings. A conversation with her mother helps Georgia face the truth of her feelings. There's no dark moment that pushes them apart, only the satisfaction of seeing them confess those feelings and look to the future together. The epilogue was a nice wrap-up.

Jordan's family is a big part of the book. Their love and support of each other easily spill over to Georgia and her family. Morgan comes across as this big tough guy, but his inner marshmallow is evident whenever he talks about his wife and child. I loved how Sawyer, the doctor, made himself available if Georgia's mother had more health issues. Young Casey was my favorite. He's only eighteen, but you can see his father's and uncles' influence on him. I loved his kindness and compassion for the teenage girl, Emma, and how Georgia's kids adored him. I also loved how Jordan's sisters-in-law quickly became friends with Georgia. My favorite scene with them was when they showed up at the bar to see Georgia dance - without their husbands. Jordan's horror made me laugh out loud.

Reading this book reminded me that I still have a few from this series that I haven't read yet. Must remedy that.

Much like the other books in this series, this one suffers from not really having a plot. The hero and heroine meet, there’s insta-lust, and then with nothing really changing about their situation they live HEA. It makes for a rather unfulfilling read when our happy couple don’t actually have to overcome anything in order to be together.

It was just kind of a blah story overall. Nothing really happened to bring about their relationship. They didn’t have to overcome anything together. They just met, lusted, and hung around together until they decided to get married. Yawn.

This was a fun short book, entertaining. Made me laugh a few times and I got into Jordan and Georgia. I really enjoyed the Buckhorn brothers. And it was fun seeing Jordan dealing with Georgia being a dancer at a seedy bar. Light fun read.

Jordan's choice of woman was a surprise but as the story developed you started recognizing the appeal. It was fun to read, especially as he falls as hard for the kids as the mother.

Jordan, Town vet, strong silent type, pacifist, Ha! It all changes when he meets Greogia. A single mother of 2 with an ill mother and a job in a disreptable bar. Jordan wants her, bt doesn't want to want her, but he's a goner at the start!
This story made me cry happy tears, always the sign of a good boo to me!

Book #4 and Jordan, the vet, meets Georgia, the single mom of 2 and exotic dancer. I didn't care for either character. Jordan just wanted her for sex. A lot of this book was spent on a "corny" happy ending(s) of all the other brothers (books 1-3).

Read in the box set FOREVER BUCKHORN through my library for some fun old-fashioned reading.
Liked that Jordon didn’t fight his feelings for Georgia as badly as his brothers did but helped out in a sad situation.
I do love how this family pulls together on every important occasion.
I really felt for Georgia and everything she had gone through. It was great to see her triumph over her situation. As any mother knows you will do anything to feed and clothe your children.
Ruth hooking up with Honey and Misty’s father, just cannot see it happening.
The ex in-laws never made an appearance which I found strange after what they tried to do.
Also it is never stated if Georgia had qualifications to run a dance and fitness studio.

Reread this authors Winston Brothers and Visitation series. Grabbed these through my library for some light reading.
Quite entertaining to read books this old and the sexually biased slant to them.
How stories have changed in 20 years. I quite like the old-fashioned manners of the men but they are a bit dominating and overbearing, in a nice way.

I find it interesting that these men are all women magnets, basically big players but no other women show up or make a fuss.
Found it interesting that none of these brothers have ever gotten a woman pregnant by accident either but poor Misty book 2 and Georgia book 3, had both been pregnant due to broken condoms.
Seems these men are super lucky.

I have read the first seven books in one hit so will not be reading the others for a while as they seem similarly themed.

Jordan Somerville is the mellowest of the four brothers. A gentle voice that gentles the animals he works with, he finds that his mild manners are not up to task when he encounters Georgia Barnes. The way she dances on stage puts more than a few erotic images in to his mind. But is he really looking for a woman with two young children and the imstakes she has made.

Georgia has to work. Being an exotic dance helps pay for the home her children and mother are trying to finish. It's what keeps food on the table. Finding herself in the sights of Jordan, she is not sure she can risk wanting another man.

Building on the whole family, it's great story with just the right blend of love going around.

This was the 3rd brother but the 4th book in the series. Jordan is reserved compared to his three brothers Sawyer, Morgan, and Gabe, but Jordan's heart is all about the care of the animals in his care.

Georgia is a mom of 2, and she also takes care of her mom who is ill, so what if she dances at a bar at night, and waits on tables during the day, she does what is needed to give her children what they need.

Now this book was good, I loved this character maybe because he was always the unknown, very stoic, not the type to react and be outlandish so to see him act this way with Georgia was a fun, and Lori Foster is good at giving the Buckhiorn men the woman that will do that with them. Good job.

Another great addition to this already great series!
I am really enjoying the whole no real drama or angst in this series. These men know what they want and go full steam to get it without the extra drama.
Jordan though there were moments when he cause a bit of drama what with his over possessive protectiveness over Georgia...everything he did was to protect her, the drama which was more along the lines of embarrassment was a side effects.

I REALLY loved the interwoven parts with Casey and Emma, and I am SO excited to read that book! Even though it’s late here and I shouldn’t I think I will start it tonight.

I can't believe how they met. But it became like a dream that he found a woman that kept his interest more than anyone else could. It doesn't matter about her past cause he's different than alot of guys and it's how he was brought up the rt way whether he had a father or not. He would do the best 4 her and convince her his feelings r true and won't b like anything b4.
