When David Mitchell was told that he would be in charge of the East Coast Highway he thought that he was just in for the usual hard work and hassle that goes with running a big construction job. And so, as David, aided by his deputy Margo Greville–Smith, wrestles with the challenge of getting the job complete on time they are constantly set back by the actions of the environmentalists. What neither of the protagonists realize is that dark clouds are gathering in the form of a threat that is far more evil than they could ever imagine: a threat that was determined, at any cost, to strike the East Coast Highway on the Critical Path, bring the project down and destroy David’s employer Campbell - Luddington. Meanwhile, in a high security prison, two rival prisoners wait to play their part. As the battle to complete the project is played out, so is the love life of the people involved as their hopes and emotions are ripped asunder.
