Single mother, Jade Miller, has just witnessed a murder. Now, set to testify against the cold-blooded killer, Jade must be placed under protection. While she is grateful to the kind folks who’ve offered to take in her and her son, Jade is surprised to find the man escorting them from L.A. to Montana is Gavin Emerson. A womanizing, far-too-attractive-for-his-own-good, rebel cowboy. Jade assures Gavin that she has sworn off men until her son is grown, but all too soon she finds herself fighting back feelings for the man who’s agreed to care for them.
Gavin wants nothing to do with ranch life. Not since the ugly fallout he had with his father over eight years ago. But when he agrees to come back, harboring Jade and her son for a time, Gavin falls in love with life on the land once again. Above that, he finds his heart has been captured by his lovely house guest, Jade Miller.
After reservations on both parts, the two are finally ready to open up and give their new-found love a try. Only they aren’t in the clear just yet, and as a dark and deadly threat falls upon them, Gavin finds that his bad-boy past may have led the danger right to their door.
Excerpt: Jade wasn’t sure why she wanted him to think she was asleep. Perhaps to appear as if she hadn’t been waiting for him. Besides, he’d done his job, finished massaging her back, and what they both needed was a good night’s sleep. Nothing more. Yet as Gavin sunk onto the edge of her bed, ran a feathery-light finger over her arm, Jade wanted something more than a simple night’s sleep. She froze in place, stunned as she felt him lean over her, the bed slightly creaking beneath his weight. Her heart skipped at least two beats while she waited, working to keep her breaths slow and even. It wasn’t until she felt his warm breath on her face that she realized just how close he’d gotten. Did he plan to kiss her in her sleep? Like sleeping beauty? The idea caused a sudden streak of tingling anticipation to skitter over her flesh. If his lips touched hers, would she kiss him back? She imagined wrapping her hand around the back of his neck, indulging in the moment. Suddenly it seemed as if her heart was working to make up for the lost beats – pounding in excess to a near painful degree. Please, Gavin, she pled inwardly. Please just kiss me. Without a conscious thought, she let her lips part slightly. Gavin’s warm breath met hers, the seductive sensation causing Jade to silently grip fistfuls of the sheets at her sides. Wanting. Craving.
*Though this novel is considered clean romance, it does contain passionate kissing scenes and a few mild curse words.*
USA Today Bestselling author Kimberly Krey is known as the Queen of Steamy Clean Romance. She's a fervent lover of God, family, and cheese platters, as well as the ultimate hater of laundry. Her readers count on faith-filled romance novels that stay clean without losing the steam.
I liked this one much more than the first. For some reason the author decided to write this series in reverse order. While the books technically can stand on their own, when I read the first book I felt lost. I felt like I had missed the previous books even though at that time they hadn't been written. I felt this installment could stand on its own.
I like Jade and Gavin. They had good chemistry and it was fun to watch their relationship develop. The mystery did not play a huge role in the story (much like the first book), but I think going into it I knew what to expect and that helped me enjoy it more. It is more a romance novel than a mystery novel.
Overall, it was really enjoyable. I look forward to reading more.
What a heartfelt and suspenseful ride Jade’s Cowboy Crush turned out to be. It’s a story that mixed protectiveness, fear, and the kind of slow-burning romance that makes your heart ache in the best way. Jade Miller is a single mother who witnesses a colleague’s murder and must go into the witness protection program, moving with her son Luke from L.A. to a Montana ranch. She’s placed under the care of Gavin Emerson, a rugged, “rebel cowboy” with a complicated past and a rough relationship with his family. Gavin initially doesn’t want to return to ranch life, but agreeing to escort Jade and her son ignites a change in him that’s as internal as it is external.
What resonated with me most was how the book weaves vulnerability and healing into its romance. Jade is fiercely protective of Luke, and her strength felt real. Dhe’s not perfect, but she’s resilient and stubborn in all the right ways. Gavin’s emotional journey felt equally genuine: every step he takes toward opening up comes with a cost, especially because his past might still be catching up with them. The shadow of danger looms just enough (thanks to the murder plot) to keep things tense, but the heart of the story is really about family, trust, and letting yourself be loved even when it scares you. The clean-but-steamy affection, particularly in lighter, intimate moments, made the romance tender without being overdone. 4 / 5 for its warm characters, compelling emotional stakes, and the way it balances suspense with genuine love.
Jade is a single mother who has sworn off relationships until her son, Luke, is grown. She's determined to give him the best life possible. But when she witnesses the murder of her friend and has to go into hiding, she finds herself in a fake marriage with the good-looking rebel cowboy, Gavin, she met one time over a year ago. In order to keep Luke safe, she'll go along with the ruse. She just hopes when all is said and done that she and Luke won't have too much heartache to overcome.
After a falling out with his father, Gavin left Montana at the age of 18 without so much as a glance over his shoulder. He isn't proud of his past but he's moved on from it and is determined to make the best of it. When he receives a frantic call from home asking him to bring a murder witness from L.A. to Montana, Gavin wants to blow it off. But he agrees when his father offers him the one thing he has always wanted.
Gavin can't believe his luck when he discovers who the witness is... the gorgeous redhead he met once over a year ago that he has been trying to get to meet him in person again. But his new found luck goes right out the window when he discovers she's a single mother. If there's one thing Gavin doesn't do it's kids. He'll do his part to protect them, go along with the ruse and then hightail it out of there and back to his bachelor life in L.A. There's no way he'll lose his heart to this pair.. no matter how gorgeous and cute they are.
But the more time they spend together and get to know one another, the more they realize their hearts are in trouble. They are falling for each other and being together just feels right. With their growing feelings they think that maybe, just maybe this could work.
With the trial looming closer, Gavin starts to feel uneasy. When a "friend" from L.A. reaches out asking questions about why he's in Montana, his senses go on high alert. His past is coming back to haunt him and in the process, it's putting Jade and Luke in danger. But Gavin refuses to let anything happen to his new family. He finally has everything he has ever dreamed of and he will do everything in his power to protect them and ensure their HEA.
Wow! Just wow! I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Jade's Cowboy Crush is my favorite in the series! I stayed up WAY too late reading and woke up early on Sunday morning just to finish it! Gavin and Jade had me rooting for them from the very first chapter! And little Luke was absolutely adorable! I knew from the moment Gavin first met him that Luke would have him wrapped around his little pinky. Such a cute little family!
I am really enjoying this series. It has been on my TBR list forever! When I saw that Ms. Krey's latest book had someone from this series in it, I decided it was time to read it because I had no clue who he was! Haha. Oh! And Rough Edges is on my 2018 Reading Challenge so I wanted a little back story on Allie as well. Once again I find myself saying... why have I waited so long to read these books?! I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
I just have to say that I love Ms. Krey's motto... "Romance that's clean without losing the steam!" I think she also needs to add swoony in there somewhere because let me tell you... all of her books I have read so far are definitely swoony... ;)
And of course I can't forget my casting! *dreamy sigh* I love these two for Jade and Gavin! What do you think?
It took a while to get into this one. Not because the plot wasn’t interesting but Gavin was a huge jerk. He was rude & obnoxious and I almost didn’t make it past the first few chapters. Gavin’s only saving grace was his interactions with Jade’s son, Luke. It was sweet and just warmed my heart, actually softening me toward Gavin a bit.
The relationship between him and Jade progressed really quickly. Considering what she went through that landed her in witness protection, Gavin came on way too strong. He even had this really cheesy nickname for Jade, ‘Sweetlips’, that had me rolling my eyes and grimacing.
Trauma aside, even Jade seemed to be rushing into things with Gavin. Only stopping to think about the consequences/effects on her son way after she already made her decisions.
The ending was not only anticlimactic but it dragged on and on. Thus was an okay story but it could have been way better.
All Jade wanted to do that night was finish her shift and get home to her son, she didn’t expect to witness the brutal gunning down of her colleague when she was doing a mundane chore of bringing out the trash. After witnessing the murder and coming face to face with the murderer, Jade was now under the protection of the state until the trial date. Going into witness protection wasn’t on her list of things to do, but she had no choice and that meant packing up her son and heading out to the ranches of Montana with a stranger.
Gavin had a good job in construction; he had a past he wanted to stay clear from and wanted to keep his nose clean. When he received a call from back home stating they needed his help transporting and protecting a witness, he all but threw the phone in response. There was no way he was going back to his family after not talking to his father for 8 years. All he wanted was to get what was rightfully his and wash his hands of everybody. His family was persistent and Gavin found himself driving to the meeting point of the witness.
Pretending to be married with a little boy, Gavin and Jade ride off to Montana and await the trial. Both Gavin and Jade are independent, stubborn and happy with their lives. They don’t need the chemistry and sparks that are flying between them, but they can only ignore their feelings for so long. Slowly giving into the feelings of desire, Gavin and Jade find themselves happy and enjoying each other’s company in Montana, but that all changes when Gavin’s past sneaks up on them and threatens everything that they’ve built between the two of them.
Jade’s Cowboy Crush contains smoking hot and spicy scenes. I love how this book and the other books that I have read by Kimberly Krey give you the steamy romantic scenes without crossing over the line. A strong story line with strong characters kept me hooked from the first page. I love Kimberly’s writing and look forward to reading more of her books.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Jade's Cowboy Crush by Kimberly Krey is the second book I read by Kimberly Krey. Both books are quick and easy reads. This one has an interesting story line and well developed characters. The characters are ready to jump off the pages. It points out the necessity of family. This story shows strong family values. Jade witnesses the murder. Rhet, the murderer goes after her but the police sirens scare him off. He makes bail and Jade and her son Luke are placed in witness protection. Earl call his nephew Gavin to bring her from Los Angeles to Montana. Gavin is not happy. When he meets Jade he mocks her and said a kid makes it worse. He takes her back to his uncle's ranch under the guise they are newly weds. Due to arguments with his father he's been away for almost a decade. Gavin has to admit to himself there is something about Jade and Luke is a good kid. He's really coming around playing with his nephews. Jade likes his aunt and idle. He likes the ranch house and especially the vegetable garden. She gets Gavin and his father to reconcile. Gavin doesn't want any money from his father. Gavin likes working the ranch. All is going well. Jade and Gavin are attracted to each other. Can love be far behind? The the trial comes up. What does Rhet have up his sleeve.
I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway and this is my honest review. Loved it! Jade’s a single Mom, trying to make ends meet. When she is in the wrong place, at the wrong time, her whole world is turned upside down. She has to go into hiding, before testifying and Gavin is her security. Suspense, with a side of romance.
Jade is a hot headed redhead and Gavin is a hotheaded cowboy, turned carpenter. When they end up traveling together and spending time in his home town, where he definitely doesn't want to be, things get rather awkward. It was great to see them both grow and be able to get over their misunderstandings, with each other and also with his family. The bad guy was very creepy and once again I was happy to see the girl fight for herself and not have to be completely dependent on the men around her to save her. Great story!
Jade was working as a waitress and raising her son on her. She was working a longer shift, she was taking the garbage and looked for her coworker. Little did she know she would witness her murder. Gavin received a call to help be a significant to his uncle's ranch, little did he know It was the woman he had been flirting with by text that he has met about a year before. Interesting things happen in witness protection.
This is a romance and murder. Jade sees her co worker killed and can identify who shot her. She travels to Montana to await trial and falls in love. She also has a little boy. All goes well until the killer shows up to do Jade in.. She is good at defense and has him at disadvantage when her new love shows up.
I am absolutely loving this series by Kimberly Krey. Each story contains a murder, drama, laughter, family, love and enough "clean and steamy" scenes and dialog to keep the romance readers thoroughly satisfied and completely enthralled! Meet bad boy Gavin who wants nothing to do with falling for anyone, let alone a single mother... Then meet Hot and spicy Jade, who only needs one male in her life, her 4 yr old son Luke... Explosions and fireworks to follow, as these two sizzle with the attraction between them. You first meet these brothers and the Emerson family in Book one, Reese's Cowboy Kiss and then after Jade's Cowboy Crush, you'll be hard pressed not to want to continue the Sweet Montana Bride series!
I was utterly blown away by this story’s flawless beauty and inexplicable magic in the transformations that take place and its unbridled passion for second chances that are given. Ever since I read Cassie’s Cowboy Crave, I have been in love with this series, and have been looking forward to enjoying Jade’s Cowboy Crush. This story gave me everything that I was hoping for and so much more! There was more danger, deeper family connections, and more passion then I thought possible. What an unexpected treasure Kimberly Krey has created!
Jade is a single mother who witnessed a brutal murder of a friend. She and her son are now on the run for their lives. If that isn’t bad enough, they are handed over to Gavin who could care less about her and her son. He is cold, uncaring, and incompetent in her eyes. He is the antithesis of a man who would willingly agree to play the part of her pretend husband while he hides them away under protective custody. Unfortunately for them, there is an undeniable attraction that pulls them closer together forcing them to change their stubborn ways and find something that neither expected but both desperately need.
If I thought Shane in Cassie’s Cowboy’s Crave was a bad boy with a colorful past, then I was in for quite a surprise with his brother Gavin. While his demeanor is quiet yet confident, Gavin has a past that he would much rather forget. The constant tension with his father doesn’t help to ease his troubled mind, but instead it serves as an annoying boil ready to burst at a moment’s notice. So when he is asked to take Jade into protective custody on his uncle’s ranch, he is less than cooperative. He isn’t interested in easing anyone else’s stress, but at the same time he knows he can’t leave her stranded and running for her life. There is more to Gavin than meets the eye, and the danger that Jade brings will put his very heart in jeopardy.
The characters in this story are truly amazing and without a doubt some of my absolute favorite. While Jade and Gavin take center stage as we watch them slowly and irrevocably fall in love, we are also given some remarkable secondary characters like Gavin’s uncle and aunt who not only take them both in, but teach them what it means to truly live and love with their whole heart. They help to show this beautiful couple that life is only truly enjoyed when it is lived passionately, completely, and honestly. It’s inspiring what good advice, patient love, and real honesty can do in healing hearts and bringing people together as a family.
Taking part in the lives of the Emerson family for a second time was even better than the first time around. Their quiet strength and gentle love towards women in need of safety, love, and hope is truly remarkable, and I am so glad that the better part of human nature is on display for the world to see. In my heart, I truly believe that there are people like this who give without thought of reward and desire to help those in need no matter the circumstances. Can you even imagine what our world would look like if more people took on these types of values?! It would truly be a better world.
I read this book in one sitting, and I can’t shout my praise for it loud enough! This is a spectacular story that will touch your heart so deeply that you will hate to say goodbye to all of the wonderful characters that you have come to know and cherish. I am officially a HUGE fan of Kimberly Krey, and I anxiously await her next masterpiece. They say that things get better with time, and in this case I would have to wholeheartedly agree. Krey’s craft continues to strengthen by leaps and bounds with each story that she writes. I can only imagine the level of brilliance that will come from her next!
"Jade's Cowboy Crush" which I won from Goodreads Giveaways is a delightful, entertaining romance that begins when Jade Miller slinging garbage into the dumpster behind the restaurant where she works witnesses the murder of a co-worker. Waiting for the trial, the accused out on bail, Jade fears for her life and that of her son so she agrees to be placed in a Witness Protection Program. Life is about to change for a woman who has renounced male companionship until her son is grown because the good-looking protector who's taking her from L.A. to the cowboy country of Montana is no stranger.
When Gavin Emerson, a notorious bad-boy who abandoned the ranch life of Montana after an explosive argument with his father is coerced into protecting Jade and her son little does he know that his life is about to be shaken up. As sparks fly and romance begins to blossom, an unexpected danger from Gavin's past re-emerges bringing a killer to their doorstep.
The plot is well-developed blending danger, family relationships and emotional healing into a contemporary romance that will make hearts flutter in a down-to-earth western style. It's well-written with the central focus on the romance between Jade and Gavin rather than on the mystery of the crime or the Witness Protection aspect that brings the two together.
The characters with their problematic pasts evolve as the story progresses. Jade Miller is a single mother who's haunted by a painful experience, protective of her young son and introverted and cautious when it comes to love. Yet as events unfold she demonstrates a strength of will and determination to change. Gavin Emerson, plagued by the dark years of his past is stubborn, strong and arrogant. A man with commitment issues who yearns for the respect of his father he matures in this story, changing from a smooth-talking player to one who's loyal, patient and good-natured.
As well as Jade and Gavin, Kimberly Krey breathes life into other realistic and warm characters in this story; like Luke the energetic, loveable four year old; Grant Emerson, Gavin's stubborn but contrite father; Earl the kind, fatherly, gentle uncle and Lilly, the critical, interfering aunt who has a heart full of good intentions.
With a heart-warming plot and fascinating character development, "Jade's Cowboy Crush" is wonderfully light reading for the romantic at heart.
Sigh. I feel like such a sappy, happy girl right now. :) I have to give credit where it's due. Kimberly Krey- I love you. Thank you for writing the perfect romance to escape my from my laundry and cooking realities. Seriously though, Kimberly is a writer with a gift for writing a clean romance with some sizzle. I read her first book, Cassie's Cowboy Crave, when I signed on for a blog tour. We were able to work together for a blog post for that and it was so much fun. (Click here to read that) I have become her (maybe unhealthy and a bit stalker-ish) fan and I'm going to be waiting after every book for the next one to come out. Kimberly is funny. She always makes me smile. I'm so happy promote her books- not just because I like her, but because I love these books.
Jade's Cowboy Crush is a fun book. The banter between Jade and Gavin is good, the attraction is there and the tension build up is palpable. Um, yummy. :) There are some steamin' kissin' scenes. Oh yeah. The thank you kiss by the pond? sizzle.
I loved Jade's devotion to her son- to do anything to protect him. As a mother I can relate to that. Jade has always worked hard to support her family on her own. She is strong but not so strong and independent that she felt unreal.
Gavin is the best "brooding misunderstood" bad boy. He's built up a wall of defense based on past hurts. He's been in trouble and done things he shouldn't have. He really doesn't want anything to do with Jade and her son at first but follows through with it for purely selfish reasons. Best choice he ever made, I think. :)
I loved the reconciliation, the sense of family, the forgiveness and the little bit of suspense thrown in there too. It was love for me because it's really in my favorite genre pocket. I love a fun, steamy but clean romance to snuggle into. It was definitely in my happy zone.
I have to thank Kimberly Krey for sending me a copy of this book for review. It was like Christmas a few days early.
Content: a few instances of mild swearing and some steamy kissing.
Jade Miller is a single mother who has just witnessed the death of her co-worker. She is the only witness to this crime and she and her son, Luke, are being sent into witness protection. When she is delivered to her protector, she is shocked to see it is the womanizing, arrogant, rebellious, and gorgeous jerk of a man whom she met a year ago at a birthday party. When he finally contacted her many months later she declined his offer to get together. Her intention was to stay single until her son was grown. She did not want to chance Luke getting hurt because of a relationship gone bad.
Pompous Gavin Emerson wants nothing more to do with ranching since he and his father had a huge fall-out. They have been estranged for many years and although Gavin is now making his living the honest way, that was not always the case and it could come back to haunt him. His family often harbors and protects witnesses and he was contacted to help out since he was living in LA near the witness. There was no way he was taking some lady back to Montana and be stuck near his family...until his father sent word that he would finally consent to buy out Gavin's ownership of the land he was given as a gift when he was just a boy.
Gavin is somehow losing his heart to the beautiful strawberry blonde and her son and Jade and Luke have lost their hearts to the handsome cowboy as well.
This was a very good read and I highly recommend it and the series as well.
This was a sweet, yet fun story, with suspense, and a bit of action. It is part of a series, but I read it as a stand alone. Jade witnessed a murder. Afterwards she, and her son Luke went to a Montana ranch to hide out before the trial. Gavan agreed to be her protector. I loved the way he always had a nick name for Jade. He called her freckles, Honey lips, and sweet cheeks. It just added a bit of fun to the story.
Jade was a really good single mother. It had always just been her, and Luke. Now she is surrounded by a big, loving family that embraces them like they are a part of the family. Jade loved the ranch life. She helped in the garden, she cooked, and she and Luke swam in the pond. Throughout the story Gavan, and Jade grew closer. Gavan also was falling hard for little Luke. I enjoyed watching the relationships develop, and strengthen. The day Gavan, and Jade got married, the story heats up. It was the day the psychotic, woman-hating killer found out where Jade was, and came after her. The 1st 20 chapter was a nice, slow pace, with the plot warming my heart. After that the suspense, and action had my heart rate racing.
Jade Miller just witnessed a murder of a fellow worker at the place she works. She got a good look at the person responsible and she knows its her friends old boyfriend, Rhet. She manages to get away from him and calls the police and they get her into the witness protection program and are sending her to Montana. Gavin Emerson lives in Vegas where she is and his dad calls him to take her to Montana. Gavin and his dad do not get along so they strike a deal. His dad will give him his money if he brings Jade to Montana to his uncle's ranch. Jade has a five year old son. Gavin doesn't realize that is part of the package. He is upset about it. When they get to Montana Jade can't believe how sweet all the people are, except for Gavin. They clash big time. As time goes on she starts to feel for Gavin as she sees another side to him. This is a great story as they fall in love and Rhet returns for revenge. A good read
Jade's Cowboy Crush is western romance at its best! This is the second book in Ms. Krey's western romance series. She puts together another great story, combining steamy romance with tender feelings of love for family, the lifestyle found on a Montana ranch and suspense, as danger threatens to destroy her new found love and a promising future. Ms. Krey has the reader's attention from the very beginning right through to the exciting conclusion. This is a must read for those who enjoy a good western romance or for anyone who would just like to escape for a few hours with a great story filled with a variety of emotions.
Jade and her son enter the witness protection program. When Jade meets her new protector she finds Gavin Emerson, a man she'd met at a club, then blown off a year later when he finally called and texted her. Now she's supposed to pretend to be his wife, while trying to protect her son, and her heart, from the time when they will no longer be a family. An action packed story, and a well devolved romance, full of tension. Jade's Cowboy Crush is the second book in the series, yet you don't have to read it in order.
Content: labeled a clean romance (plenty of making out), a few swears (about 5), and some violence
Another pleasant escape to Montana. I like the tension and the sensual moments without disclosing too much to the reader. It seems these days I find all or nothing in books and this I a wonderful change for me. I like the longing. I also liked that Gavin and Jade aren't completely messed up. They have made mistakes and have some emotional baggage but they seem to be okay in their individual lives. That is, until Jade witnesses a murder. I will definitely read more by this author.
This was another great book from Kimberly Krey. I love her writing, she shares just enough details so the story isn't boring and it's not to fast paced. It is perfect. I loved Jade story. It was cute and sweet! I had seen some reviews saying it was not clean written, it is in great taste, it's not graphic and it's just perfect. I loved the ending! I love the bases of these books. Off to read Cowboy Crave! If you love a great romance with suspense in and in a ranch read these!
Kimberly Krey has proven herself to be an outstanding clean romance author. Her descriptive writing style was refreshing. For me, it is critically important that the story be believable from beginning to end. Not once was I disappointed. I appreciated her characterization which brought Jade and Gavin to life as real human beings who had flaws, but acknowledged and then overcame them. Plot turns and twists kept me glued to my I-Pad.
PG Sweet Montana Brides book 2 I love Kimberly Krey's description of her writing: "Romance that's clean without losing the Steam"! I agree wholeheartedly!
These Witness Protection/Sweet Montana Brides books are stand-alone. I loved Jade's backstory and how she put her darling son first in her life. The bad guys are really awful; the Hero is wounded and allows himself to be healed by his love for the heroine. SO good!!
I won this book in the Goodreads Giveaways. This was a wonderful read, and I really enjoyed the story. It was hard to put down. Jade was a witness to a murder. Gavin was ask to take her to witness protection. That is all it took and add a young boy. Good love story, without being to graphic. Kimberly Krey is good at blending a great story with good characters. Highly Recommended.
This novel was hard to put down. I thought this novel was going to be about cowboys and saving the damsel in distress but it has more. Even though I was a little disappointed about the main male simply because he wasn't a cowboy from the get go, it still turned out to be a good novel full of romance and mystery.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Loved it! I really enjoyed the writing style. The second in a series. Although not in chronological order. The witness protection program plot line is well done. The bad boy and the single mother loves story is filled with great chemistry. And clean!
I really enjoyed this book. I love that in this book you watch two people with issues of their own learn, grow and evolve. This book has suspense, and is a clean romance, theres not a whole lot more that I need in a book! I am curious to see who the next book in this series is about!
Jades adventure with her and her son Luke was entertaining and keep you interested in the story. Gavin played a big part in the story and seemed to have some troubles of his own. This was a fast reading book and had a good story line.
Kimberly Krey has done it again with another excellent story full of mystery, love, and a happy ending. The characters, Jade and Gavin are people you want to win in the end and are happy when things are going good for them
