An Alpha's Kiss

Rate this book
Librarian's note: This is an alternate cover edition for ASIN: B00GIWXQZA.

When Charmaine Vella rescues her friend Scottie from bullies of the Kreuger pack at a party hosted by the rival pack, she had expected nothing else to come of it. She certainly didn't expect Parker, the son of the Kreuger Alpha to come looking for her. She certainly didn't expect him to be handsome. And she most certainly didn't expect her own desire to burn so fiercely when Parker came closer.

But there was a problem: the Vella and Kreuger packs hate each other and have hated each other for centuries.

An unexpected kiss will propel Charmaine and Parker down a grim-fated path. Can they keep their love a secret from their respective families and can they bear the consequences if it's discovered?

Those who would enjoy a lot of shifter sex without much plot may enjoy An Alpha's Kiss. I found myself skimming through the explicit scenes in search of plot.

Evelyn Glass' world building has some unique attributes. Her wolf shifters do not have an extended lifespan. They suffer from human disease and do not have increased or accelerated healing ability. Mating seems to be by mutual decision, and there is no mention of a claiming bite. They do, however, have what other series would call "true mates"--mates who recognize one another at a physical level that is beyond their conscious choice or control.

The author's writing is fluid and coherent, and the hero and heroine characters are likable enough. I would be willing to try another series by this author; however, the plot/romance balance in this one isn't right for me.

The book is still free on Amazon today, 08-12-14.

Charmaine is only twenty she’s not ready to be mated for the rest of her life and granted she hasn’t done a lot of dating. When her best friend Scottie is attacked at a party hosted by a rival pack she at last has an encounter with the stranger she’s been dreaming about. The stranger who makes her toes curl, but he’s from the rival pack so neither family will go for it. Instead of following the rules she takes the risk falling for Parker hard sealing their fate. What will happen when the secret gets out that they two have found their mates with the rival pack?

I like Charmaine she’s ambitious she never planned to find her mate least of all in the rival pack. I think Parker is a good match for Charmaine they complement each other besides the fact that they have this amazing chemistry. I’m not a huge fan of the insta love concept but the way it works since they are shifters it just sort of works well.

I picked up An Alpha’s Kiss as a kindle freebie a while back and I today looked like a perfect day to check it out. A short fast paced shifter erotic romance that was perfect for a lazy morning. I finished An Alpha’s Kiss in just one sitting it was hard to put down and I wanted to see how it would play out. I’m not a huge erotica fan but as long as we have a story to go with it I’ll give it a chance. The story reminds me a little of Romeo and Juliet it was good and I enjoyed it. My only complaint is it felt a little rush but that’s because it’s a short story. All and all it’s very steamy but I enjoyed it. I’ll be checking out the author in the future.

Obviously this is an erotica, and I got it for free from amazon. Anyone who had got this paranormal erotica book thinking it's going to have phenomenal writing needs to rethink their expectations. I did not get this book for the amazing, thought provoking story and fantastic writing. I knew a free, short, erotic story would not be these things. I did however enjoy this story a great deal and it lived up to my expectations. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to read a quick hot and steamy romance. I can't read these type of stories very often, since i'm a hard core SF fan, but a few times a year I enjoy these type of novels, and believe me, this was a good one! :)

Sometimes I have to remind myself not to expect too much from erotic books. If you don't expect too much beyond the sex then you won't be disappointed with Untamed.

The plot was basic, the characters bland and the ending rushed.

But the sex was hot.

Never have read anything by this author before. I did enjoy the action packed plot which made this a quick page turner. I've always loved PNR, especially shape-shifters so this one I would recommend on those reasons.

So I just read this book and when I got to the end it was already marked as read on goodreads... apparently I read this 2014. Wow I have no recollection.

It was ok. I thought the whole pack and shifter aspect really took a back seat. I like to read these books because I’m interested in the pack and the alpha and the mate thing. This did have the mate thing although I thought it was sort of stupid that everyone knew about finding your mate, but then wasn’t accepting of it when Charmaine found hers. It’s not like she picked him. And it’s not like she could turn her back on him once they found each other. So why is everyone upset with her?

This was a sort of Romeo and Juliet story. But the wolf aspect seemed more gimmicky to draw readers in and to have the whole separate families/packs dynamic. But as far as Parker being an alpha. Eh. And they never had scenes where they shifted in the present. It was in dreams or rehashed after the fact. I was a little disappointed, it didn’t seem much like a shifter story. Parker wanted to get away from tradition and go to the voting system for who would be pack Alpha... What? If I wanted to read about that crap I would pick up the newspaper. No, I read this because I like the an alpha male who is just a little bit animalistic. Parker just seemed too tame.

But it was still a good read and I think the next book will be good. I read the prologue of book two and I feel like I already know what’s gonna happen, so I probably won’t bother with the next one. I’m not that invested.

And dragging descriptions.

Meeting.
Oh, mate of my dream.
Lot of sex.
Ill fathers.
End Book 1.

Not very exciting.

Goes down as another off my 2016 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book with non-human characters. I do love wolf shifter romances so went for a kindle freebie. Found it a fun short read to get into on a sunny afternoon in the garden. Good news is that it doesn’t really finish on a cliff hanger but more like a chapter break to what might happen next.

Charmaine has done everything her father has asked of her. Works every hour she can for the family business with the hopes of being included more with pack business. Her father has other ideas though. He longs to keep her in a protective bubble for as long as possible but doesn’t realise that she is at her breaking point. After being told no she can’t go to the latest Council Summit she has had enough of playing by the rules. She decides to take up her best friends offer of going to another packs territory for a party. This is only on strict instructions that Scottie doesn’t get out of hand though – no such luck! Dressed to turn heads to have a good time she ends up having to help him fight their way out before it gets too out of hand before heading over to the hospital. Scottie plus booze equals a fight it seems with what might come out of his mouth. A hospital would be the last place she would think would be the turning point for her life but things are about to change for her and fast.

Charmaine’s views on mates are that the whole idea of them are utter crap and that it’s nothing more than an archaic and ridiculous way to make sure they mate young and knock out a couple of kids to help increase the pack. Scottie tries to convince her that when she feels it she will know, like being hit by lightning with the shock of it. It appears he was right as the moment she gets up close to Parker her theories go right out the window. She should have been paying more attention to her dreams of being with her mate, ones he seems to have shared, as they were preparing her for what’s to come next.

Parker is the rising alpha of his pack after his father. He can see him getting weaker as the days go on and wants nothing more than to help handle the load – not that his father is ready just yet, stubborn man. One of his jobs though would be to handle any kind of disruption within the pack, fights with outsiders being one of them. This latest fight could have been a lot worse and at first he wants to thank the person responsible for stopping it get out of hand without too much harm done. This just gets Charmaine’s back up as she doesn’t see it that way with the fact Scottie is in the hospital. This only ends up making him act like a jerk with the way he then speaks to her, not that he knows exactly who she is just yet. One touch is all it takes though for both their inner beasts to wake up and tell their human selves that they are each other’s mates. Their bodies always seem to be quicker than their minds with shifters. After wanting to first run away from it they are drawn right back together. One kiss and it’s sealed, no matter what happens next they are connected for life. If it wasn’t for the little matter of being in enemy packs then all would be golden, oh and best friends throwing a spanner into the mix too. What could possibly go wrong?

The connection and sexual chemistry between them is high, nothing can dampen their buzz and I think meeting in secret is probably a bit more of turn on for both of them. She turns into a bit if a wildcat in the bedroom, or maybe that should be wilddog? Parker is full on alpha male where Charmaine is concerned; though that’s what you would expect from a shifter story, especially wolf shifter. The story is kind of just leading you into the next instalment but does a good job of setting the scene for what might happen next. Betrayal, loyalty, love, passion and trust will play a part in what’s to come. Their beasts’ want who they want, and they will not be denied not matter what.

It's ok book. Not one of my favorites by any means but not horrible. I'm not sure if I'm going to read the rest of the series or not yet. This first book didn't really captivate me and I wasn't left with the feelings that I have to know how the story ends.

Parker Kreuger and Charmaine Vella are both Lycan's but from different packs. Their packs have been enemies for centuries but as fate would have it they are mates.

They first come in contact at the hospital that Charmaine brought her friend Scotty to after he started a fight with the wolfs in the Kreuger pack. Parker and Charmaine figure out that the other is the mate that they dream about but they are both confused and resistant knowing that they are essentially enemies. Parker and Charmaine decide to meet up in a neutral setting the Wednesday after their first meeting at the hospital. Parker wants to take Charmaine on a date and she agrees even though they both know it's not going to be easy if they try to be together.

Parker ends up taking Charmaine to his house that he goes to when he wants to be alone. He knows that no one will be coming up there because his pack knows he only goes there when he needs time alone. He figures it's the safest place for Charmaine and him to get to know one another. Things ignite between the two fairly quickly and they become intimate after which they determine that they have to find a way to be together no matter how difficult it will be. They are mates and they need each other.

Once Charmaine leaves Parker's house to visit her friend Scotty things go terribly wrong in a quick minute. Scotty Has been Charmaine's life long friend and he thinks they are meant to be together even though he knows they are not mates. Scotty still feels like he and Charmaine can have a good life together and does not take the news well that Charmaine has found her true mate.

Parker takes Charmaine back to his home where he can keep her safe until they can figure out a way to get around the treaty that was put in place centuries ago. Parker's father excepts Charmaine fairly easy but he lets both of them know he will do what he can to help but it's not going to be easy for either of them.

Charmaine's family doesn't take it as well and it takes days for her mom to come around and agree for a meeting. That meeting never happens because Charmaine's father is rushed to the hospital. Parker takes Charmaine to the hospital to be with her family and he supports her in her time of need. Charmaine pushes Parker away. She feels guilty for loving Parker and feels like it's her fault that her dad is in the hospital. Her family is all she's ever known and she just doesn't know how to deal with all that is going on. Parker visits the hospital every day even though Charmaine doesn't know that he's there. He just needs to make sure she's ok. One day Charmaine realizes that she misses Parker and she needs him more than anything thing else. If they have each other then they can face anything. She goes out to the garden to call Parker but gets no answer. She turns around to find that Parker is there. He holds her and tells her he loves her and everything will be ok. Her response to him is "I'm yours" and that's the ending. There is no cliffhanger which I enjoy. I hate when books end on cliffhangers especially if I'm really into the story but in this instance I'm glad that I can actually stop at this book without feeling like I'm missing something.
I know that there are other books that continue the story of Parker and Charmaine and they may be wonderful books for all I know. I am just not sure if I want to continue with their story. I just didn't get invested in the characters or their story.

Charmaine Vella is the alpha’s daughter. She has been told her whole life that she will find her mate but she’s only twenty and what she wants is the wolf she dreams about.
***
Oh boy… that first sentence… (wait - I can’t copy from Kobo? - goddammit) “…muted the sounds of the tiny downtown nestled at its center.”
What? Downtown is part of a larger town or often a city. You can’t have a downtown off by itself. And its unlikely to be nestling in a valley.
I recently updated my PC to windows10 and now I can use the Kobo app. Ikr? It would not function on windows7, when kindle would, and I have to say kobo missed out on a lot of book buying from me because of it.
Oh no… page 2… “He nuzzled her reassuringly and stared with his green concerned eyes concerned.”
Now on page 11 she is biting and chewing something when they haven’t even got to the restaurant yet.
Super quick pov changes. We barely get a sense of the person before we are flung back to the other pov.

Hmmm… so Parker’s pack has really ancient lineage - so they ought to be Native American? Oh, no… they’re not… that’s weird, right? How can that work?
Wait up… this girl is a freaking werewolf and she just pepper sprayed someone. Sigh.
***
This story is like furry Romeo and Juliet. Each is the child of the leader of the opposing pack group who have hated each other for generations… the Capulet and the Montague families are replaced here by the previously warring but now treaty-bound wolf packs of the Vella and Krueger families. But… and this is where it loses points for me… there is much angst once they mate, about how they can deal with this (and a lot of sex when they do) because of whom they are and then… it is just conveniently glossed over in two pages. And for me that just won’t work.
Your story conflict just evaporated.
It’s your standard wolf mate love story where mating overcomes all; even her hatred of being thought to exist only for breeding, and his concerns about it as well - it all just disappeared. And that didn’t feel right.
And her bff Scott was a total and utter dick. He takes her off to a bar in enemy pack territory, gets drunk (after promising not to), takes shots off another girl’s body and then gets into a fight with that girl’s mate, breaks the treaty, drops Charmaine in the crap, she has to rescue him, take him to hospital and negotiate with the annoyed pack on his behalf. And then he proposes marriage and gets super upset when she says no.
Total and utter dick.
The sex was fine but the characters just weren’t there.

First, page numbers misleading. Got it on my Nook and it was only 56 pages, not 110. That being said, it was a sweet story. This story is like reading Romeo and Juliet but with shifters. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. There are thousands of books out there following that train of thought. Hell, Romeo and Juliet is one of my favorites by Shakespeare. So I was not at all turned off by this.

I was however turned off by a few other points. The characters young and at times it is glaringly obvious in the level of their interactions and maturity. It's a good story, decent plot, but could do some serious time with a good editor that may be able to catch obvious errors. For instance, they meet for the first time, he actually calls her by name! And yet 2 paragraphs later he asks her what her name is. The author uses the term Mine 4 times in 1 page as Parker is thinking their relationship through in his head.

"...she begged him to say it again.
Mine"

"...ravish her until she couldn't speak.
Mine"

"... again with the tip of his tongue.
Mine"

And this continues every paragraph for the rest of the page. I get that they're wolf shifters and therefore territorial, but enough try a different word already.

Most importantly, this isn't even a complete story. There is no resolution. You're pretty much left hanging. I wouldn't have minded so much it that was stated right from the beginning. But it wasn't.

All in all, this story has potential and I did enjoy it to a degree. But it needs a lot of work to live up to that potential.

I liked this book, but everything seemed to move a little too quickly for me. Charmaine never wanted a mate she didn't even be leave in them then all of the sudden she meets Parker and everything goes down hill and rather quickly. She leaves her best friend who has just been beaten up to run off with her mate something she (I again repeat) didn't even believe in! they sleep together and you know sparks and the whole nine. She doesn't tell anyone she had a mate till her best friend asked to marry her, and then everything goes down hill from there.

I don't know if I'm going to read the next book in this very fast moving series but I see where the author was going if she moved things a little fast. I dint like how Parker knew her name when she had never said it… when he thinks about her he calls her the princess and never by name but when there together in the garden she calls her Charmaine. it just really annoyed me. also in what Werewolf book does a werewolf not heal fast? like Scotty was out of commission for like a few days either he's a crappy werewolf or these are just a lower breed.

A good rainy day read!! I love a good romance with a hint of paranormal! Parker was great. His mate Charmaine, well really, what can you expect? She's young I guess but loyalty to your mate would be a nice quality. She doesn't seem to have that. Since they are supposed to be somehow fated to be mates, and then their culture is supposed to be geared to be ga-ga crazy over it. How come nobody accepted it? I get the whole Romeo , Juliet concept but geez being mates should have been more accepted than it was. If Charmaine is just a baby-maker that they were pushing to mate off. What is all the fuss about?? And her older brother Christopher should go soak his head! At his age, he doesn't understand about mates? What a dope! I hope he gets his comeuppance , in a big way!!! Guess I'll have to read on to find out!!

As far as shifter stories go, this was OK. I haven't read many paranormal romances lately that have made me want to stay up all night reading them, except J.R. Ward's BTB series. I find a lot of PNR are predictable, but I honestly have a special place in my heart for them because they are what brought me back to my love of reading. I liked the idea of true mates in this book, because it made the insta- love more believable. The characters were likable and their chemistry was good. This book did need some proofreading. There were several misuses of spelling and even character name mistakes that slowed me down because I had to re-read. Overall, this was a decent story but I would have liked to see some sort of twist to beef it up.

I can get on board with a little PWP on occasion, but this was beyond flimsy in terms of any excuse for a plot. The elements are there for something interesting (Romeo and Juliet - with werewolves!), but all of that gets bypassed in favor of sex. Which is fine, but it's not a story. A story needs conflict, it has to make you care about the characters, particularly if we're supposed to watch them f*cking. I found myself skimming the erotica (the entire point of the book!) in the interest of seeing if anything would happen. What is the point of using werwolves as characters if they don't do anything werewolfy? Beyond that, at roughly 50 pages, this isn't a novel. The author could have easily combined this with the other two books for a fuller story.

“An Alpha's Kiss” by Evelyn Glass
Read: April 25, 2015

April 28, 2015

When I found this book for free on the Google play store, I hoped I found a Harlequin love novel, which I quite enjoy together with my mom. Boy was I wrong. This book had a lot of potential for a good story plot, but alas, this book contained more sex scenes than a well-written story. The language bothered me, it reminded me of porn stories (which it probably was). It was a simple read and I could’ve bought the second part in hope for more of a story, but seeing how the first few chapters of that book would be (thanks to book one) I decided not to waste my money and thus not buying it.

Pretty Good Shifter Romance

This is a short read, so it's got that insta-love factor. The way it happened didn't bother me, but if that's not your thing, be warned. This is basically the shifter equivalent of Romeo and Juliet, and it's a good story. The characters aren't complex, but they aren't frustratingly simple either. The romance/sex is decently hot, and it fits in the story without it being too little or too much. While I'm somewhat intrigued with the story, I'm not sure if I'll read the second book.

Too young for me

Gah! The book is probably not that bad, but the characters are so young and immature that I couldn't finish it. If you like these young adult novels and can relate to that age group, then you'll probably like this book. If you're a grumpy old adult like me who wants to read about characters that don't careen from dramatic overreaction to hormonal explosion, then I would recommend something else.

Intense drama, smoking hot love

The plot for this book is so absorbing! Charmaine is a likeable, believable character and when she meets her mate, her whole lives feel gets twisted. Her best friend is a jerk, her brother is a misogynist jerk and her parents treat her like a baby. But when she decides to make a change, boy, did this story get good! I enjoyed reading about Parker and Charmaine and will continue on to the next book too!

An Alpha's Kiss Another teen geared erotica that shouldn't be written for teens to begin with. I couldn't get into the story and the characters weren't working for me. Needs a lot of editing and a lot of work. It has the beginnings of a good idea but not much else. Another book for my DNF pile. :/

Really enjoyed this book, and the whole forbidden relationship thing. I like how Charmaine is determined and has such a strong drive to her! The characters are all developed well and can't wait to read more about them, and see how Parker and Charmaine's relationship goes!
I definitely recommend this book! Can't wait to read book 2

Steamy

Typical werewolf story. Girl and boy fall in love but can't have each other. What are they going to do. It is a good story though. Only draw back for me is too much sex in the middle of the book. Like okay sex scene and then two pages later another sex scene and three pages later ANOTHER sex scene and so forth and so forth. But again, not a bad book.

This book is a free download which I love! It was really good but short. Unfortunately it will be the only one I read since the next two are just as short but cost $2.99 each. I feel like that's not worth it for it only taking an hour to read. I would probably not even recommend it for that reason. Hopefully it will go on sale one day soon and I can get it then.

Enjoyed this story and will continue to read the rest of the series. Easiest way to summarise it is to call it a modern twist on Romeo and Juliet except set in the supernatural world of werewolves. However this is a series and a modern romance so I am not anticipating a double suicide at it's conclusion.
