"Sometimes I think I am Judy Moody," says Megan McDonald, author of the Judy Moody series, the Stink series, and THE SISTERS CLUB. "I'm certainly moody, like she is. Judy has a strong voice and always speaks up for herself. I like that."

For Megan McDonald, being able to speak up for herself wasn't always easy. She grew up as the youngest of five sisters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her father, an ironworker, was known to his coworkers as "Little Johnny the Storyteller." Every evening at dinner the McDonalds would gather to talk and tell stories, but Megan McDonald was barely able to get a word in edgewise. "I'm told I began to stutter," she says, leading her mother to give her a notebook so she could start "writing things down."

Critically acclaimed, the Judy Moody books have won numerous awards, ranging from a PUBLISHERS WEEKLY Best Book of the Year to an International Reading Association Children's Choice. "Judy has taken on a life of her own," the author notes, with nearly 3 million Judy Moody books in print. Interestingly, the feisty third-grader is highly popular with boys and girls, making for a strong base of fans who are among Megan McDonald's strongest incentives to keep writing, along with "too many ideas and a little chocolate." And now -- by popular demand -- Judy Moody's little brother, Stink, gets his chance to star in his own adventures! Beginning with STINK: THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING KID, three more stories, and his own encyclopedia, STINK-O-PEDIA, Stink's special style comes through loud and strong -- enhanced by a series of comic strips, drawn by Stink himself, which are sprinkled throughout the first book. About the need for a book all about Stink, Megan McDonald says, "Once, while I was visiting a class full of Judy Moody readers, the kids, many with spiked hair à la Judy's little brother, chanted, 'Stink! Stink! Stink! Stink! Stink!' as I entered the room. In that moment, I knew that Stink had to have a book all his own."

More recently, Megan McDonald has recalled some of her own childhood with the warmth, humor -- and squabbles -- of three spunky sisters in THE SISTERS CLUB.

Megan McDonald and her husband live in Sebastopol, California, with two dogs, two adopted horses, and fifteen wild turkeys that like to hang out on their back porch.

Judy Moody becomes Judy Drewdy in this ninth book of the series. There are many mysteries to solve as she keeps her eyes open, but the biggest one of all is the missing police dog Mr. Chips. Unravelling that mystery leads to my favorite chapter: The Case of the Kissing Canine. Chocolate Chip Cookies have a starring role as Judy and her friends solve the case. If you ask me, cookies (especially chocolate chip) should have their own food group.

For J, the favorite chapter was a bonus epilogue: Judy Moody and the Missing Mood Ring in which Judy finds herself in a real-life Nancy Drew mystery. For real. Rare!

Our next read will be the latest Judy Moody: Judy Moody: Sunny-Side Up. Stay tuned!

Just finished this one with my daughter. Judy Moody loves Nancy Drew, and starts looking for mysteries to solve. She puts together a detective kit with all things that Nancy Drew would use, and recruits her friends to help her look for mysteries, the biggest mystery being what happend to Mr. Chips! I never read Nancy Drew when I was younger, but there are many references to the books, and anyone who has read them would probably appreciate them even more. Very fun read, and I think my daughter might be curious about the Nancy Drew books now, because of this book, and a friend at school who likes them. Maybe The Secret of the Old Clock is coming up soon?

Judy Moody knows everything there is to know about Nancy Drew. She tries to be just like her. However, she has some fear of the series. She hides one of the books under a dictionary, which is under a pillow, which is hidden under a doll. Stink, her younger brother, decides to help her on one of her missions. Despite their differences, they help each other solve a mystery. Mr. Chips, a police dog has gone missing. With the help of her brother and her friends, Frank and Rocky, she is able to solve it. They form an Agency together and find with missing puppy. The illustrations are in black and white, but fun and chaotic. I have always loved the Judy Moody series and I think it is great for younger girls.

I really like the book because it shows how hard work will never let you dow. on page 70 judy was working on the case of the missing dog and she did find clues and not only her her friends too. on page 90 judy and the police were looking for clues on the supermarket and they found some mysterious guys looking for dog for the first time. you would like this book if you like to work hard in your mission, on what you want become and be.one challenge of this book was when judy have to find the last clue of the case to find mr.chips. I say this because is hard to look for a dog in a country full of dogs of the same color. the setting changes througth the story, sometimes was on the street, backyard, school houses, parks.judy is a great girls she always work hard on everything she felt like working hard.

Judy is always in a mood and this time it is a mystery-solving-Nancy Drew mood. No kidding! When she reads a bunch of Nancy Drew books she gets determined to also, by herself, solve a creepy mystery. Just as it happens, there comes a mystery, a real Nancy Drew mystery. When the police's dog disappears, Judy just has to step on the case, nothing is going to stop her. She has many explanations for what may have happened but are any of them really the right one. You will have to read the book to find out!
I really liked the book and even though it was a quick read, it had a lot of events stuck to it. You just wanted to find out what happened next. I also liked that when you were reading the words were easy to understand so you didn't have to reread again to throughly get the event.

Judy has found a new obsession: Nancy Drew. Now wanting to be a detective just like Nancy she looks high and low for mysteries to solve. When Mr. Chips, the friendly police puppy goes missing, Judy takes this as an opportunity to show off her detective skills. This book is filled with fun adventures and takes the reader through clues to find the missing puppy. The plot was well written, and well played out. Seeing Judy get excited about this new adventure still feels fresh, even though this is the ninth book in the series. Judy and her friends are characters that are fun, light and relatable. It feels like these books just keep getting better and better.

My kids thought this book was pretty entertaining. Judy Moody and her friends become detectives and are working on the case of the missing police puppy. As always, they have all kinds of adventures and make some very wrong conclusions. However, everything works out in the end and the conclusion is a bit amusing.

In this thrilling book, number nine in the series, Judy Moody finds herself on a mysterious adventure when an amazing little police dog named Mr. Chips goes missing. Judy and her friends take it upon themselves to become detectives and search for the missing pup.

This book is absolutely amazing! One interesting thing I learned from it is that you can actually unblock a locked door with a bobby pin. In the story, Judy's little brother took her bobby pin and twisted it into the lock of her secret diary. Miraculously, the door clicked open! I wonder if he read any of my secrets. It's fascinating to discover new tricks like this.

Judy encounters and solves many mysteries throughout the book. One of the first mysteries she tackles is the case of the missing gummy moose mice or something like that. There are lots of exciting and puzzling mysteries that she encounters along the way. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering what she'll uncover next!

The lesson I learned from this book is that if you keep trying and don't give up, you can achieve anything. Judy's determination and problem-solving skills inspire me to persevere and never stop searching for solutions. Life is full of mysteries, but with a curious mind and a determined spirit, we can always learn something new and overcome challenges.

I absolutely loved reading Judy Moody Girl Detective. It's a fun and engaging story that will captivate young readers who enjoy mysteries and adventures. Judy's witty personality and clever detective skills make her an admirable character. So, join Judy and her friends as they unravel the mysteries and learn valuable life lessons along the way!

Don't just take my word for it - check out the book for yourself! Click the link to purchase and see why it's been praised by so many readers.

Summary:
Judy Drewdy lives vicariously through the books of her favorite dectect9ve: Nancy Drew. In a turn of event, she falls upon an investigation that needs a professional. This self-professed World’s Best Mystery Solver (WBMS), embarks on a sleuth. Her mission: find the missing puppy canine-cop-in-training. With the help of her friends, Drank, Rocky and Stink Judy find the pup and his stash of chocolate chip cookies.

Evaluation:
This is a fun, light-hearted mystery that students are sure to love! The mystery had a surprising ending that will make readers smile! The book length, language, and content is appropriate for readers who are beginning to read chapter book. The book is organized in short chapters with descriptive titles. There are simple line/sketched illustrations on most pages of the text, so students can still enjoy corresponding visuals. There are no subplots contained in the illustrations. However, they better establish the characters of the story. I enjoyed this book because it was a mystery book, but it wasn’t scary or contained ‘bad’ character. Because of this, all elementary student could read or listen to this text.

Teaching Idea:
This text could be used to teach students sequence of events. After teaching are introduced to this concepts, the teacher can read the book aloud. Afterwards, students can work independently or in groups to complete a sequencing activity. The teacher will provide students with sentences of events from the book. Students will be required to cut up the sentence strips and put them in sequential order. Because this activity isn’t completed until the book is completed read, students can be told about the assignment topic before the book is read. Then, as the teacher reads the book, students should keep a running list of notes about events in the book. These notes can be used as the students complete as the activity.

To be honest, yesterday I was in a mood. I was not motivated to do anything and found it hard to concentrate. Finally, I grabbed a Judy Moody book and it was just what I needed. I was swept up in the story and it put me in a different mood, a good mood.

Another great Judy Moody adventure. This one pulls in some Nancy Drew fun as Judy solves various mysteries with the help of her friends. I read a few Nancy Drew books as a kid, so it was fun to see all the references and read about Judy trying to emulate the famous girl detective. Definitely makes me want to pull out my old copies of Nancy Drew. This is a fun book for adult fans of Nancy Drew to reminisce about the books as well as interest younger readers in the older classics.

As with the previous books in the series, this one is well-written, engaging, and fun. I also love how the series highlights some famous women (both real and fictional), such as Elizabeth Blackwell and Nancy Drew.

At the end of the book, there is also a bonus story, "Judy Moody and the Mystery of the Missing Mood Ring".

A fantastic read to put you in a good mood.

I've read three of the Stink books, but never one of the original Judy ones. In this, the ninth of the series, Judy Moody has been reading all the classic Nancy Drew books. With mysteries on her mind, Judy is keen to become Judy Drewdy, girl detective herself, and looks for cases that need solving. Of course, the Case of the Bothersome Brother isn't going to cut it. So when a local police-dog-in-training goes missing, Judy jumps at the chance to put on her deerstalker hat, grab her detective bag (with money, a disguise and a bobby pin to pick locks), enlist her assistants (Agent Stinkbug, Agent Rock, and Agent Pearl), and find out who is behind this possible dognapping! Maybe even jewel thieves!

This is a popular book in my class. The humor is broad and silly, the characters are goofy, and some of the more advanced students can even discern when Judy and Stink come to some very dubious conclusions. It's a pretty lightweight book, with a narrative arc that's tenuous at best and very little in the way of lessons learned. But it's funny and good introduction to the mystery genre.

Growing up I loved the original Judy Moody book, so much so that I never seemed to move past that novel and read the other books in the series. I recently had the chance to sit down and read Judy Moody Girl Detective. I do not know if it is because I am now an adult, but I did not feel as happy as I once did while reading about Judy Moody and her antics. I admired her appreciation for Nancy Drew throughout the story and her desire to solve mysteries, but it did not live up to what I was expecting. I would still suggest this book to young students as it is a great transitional book to introduce kids to longer pieces of text. One thing I did like was the cover art, it definitely gives the reader an idea of what they will potentially get themselves into with this story, along with the title.

Obtained this book for my grand-daughter. I loved Nancy Drew mysteries when I was a child. She is an avid reader and I hoped that she had not read this one yet. Unfortunately--or great depending upon how you look at--she had already read it. In fact, she has already read them all. She is an avid reader and reads way above her grade level. I read it because I never give our grands a book I have not read yet--you never know these days. This was a terrific book and I enjoyed it--and I am very old!!

I will donate this to our local empowerment center which has an after school program for children. I'm sure it will be read by many.

I read this to my 1st grade class & enjoyed it as much as they did! The humor was appropriate for little ones while grown ones will enjoy it too. I especially enjoyed the Nancy Drew references! This book has given me a desire to reread the classics that I read as a child.

I introduced Nancy Drew (& The Hardy Boys) to my class after we read this book & had a great time explaining why Nancy didn’t didn’t use her cell phone 😂! I also loved trying to explain how she could take a ferry for a dime! Different world! ❤️

The game is afoot and Judy Moody, Detective at large is on the case! No really, despite the fact that they set out looking for a mystery, one finds her and the T.P. Club members when Mr. Chips goes missing! Would they be able to find the kidnapped canine before he turns from a life of law enforcement to a life of thievery? Oh come on, you know this bunch! They've got it in the bag...

I really like this book because I like mysteries and I like how the author made Judy Moody go step-by-step resolving her mistery and that feature makes a really good mistery book. I also liked it because I like involving my self into the character and try to think just like it and it doesn't happen to me with all the books... heheh- (I mean that it doesnt happen to me in books that don't interest me or are boring). I recommend it 100% :D

This book was a lot of fun to read. Not too much real mystery solving went on until the end, but the wording and play between the characters was something kids would enjoy reading. There are all of the typical characters you'd find in any classroom. Avid Nancy Drew fans will love all of the references.

Modern girl detective like Nancy Drew

I read this book to see how it would be for my third grade students. It would be fine for them but they probably wouldn't get the Nancy Drew references because they likely haven't read any of those. But the story is entertaining and fun so it would be a new series to spark their interest.
