Boasting 256 full-color images and 53 video clips, Strength Ball Training provides an easy way to build a strength ball program. Written by former NHL strength and conditioning coaches Lorne Goldenberg and Peter Twist, this enhanced edition serves as a fully functioning e-book that plays video within the text. The 142 exercises included can be done with a medicine or stability ball, common equipment used by elite athletes, fitness experts, and strength and conditioning specialists.
Both authors are solid fitness professionals, and I would say that at the very least I know that Twist works with athletes, but the nice thing is that they also address persons of varying fitness levels. That being said, I would say this is a intermediate to advanced (at times) group of exercises. They involve a person needing a good degree of co-ordination, control and strength to execute. I would suggest working with a trainer before attempting some of the exercises if you are new and just diving into exercising!
I'm reading through the book as part of a CEC course and it is a great compliment to another book, Functional Fitness, that I read previous. The book covers the use of Medicine Balls and Stability Balls; both can be used to engage stabilizing structures in the body in ways that gym machines can't do. It's a great way to add to a traditional training program, as the work is challenging but also can have a fun factor to it. I like the layout of the book and wish that all exercises had some kind of photo (a few do not.) This book also comes with links to watch videos as well (hope it works cause I will be looking to see that soon. Will leave a note if this doesn't work.) There are some fairly simple workout guides at the end, most of the books information about the exercises and effects are at the start.
Like the book overall for ideas of using the tools and what it specifically can help for muscle and sports. For someone coming to this who is an intermediate to advanced fitness buff you may find a exercises here to pop into your routine to add some new muscle learning.
I really enjoyed this book. I have never actually owned a book related to exercising before. I always kind of assumed that it would be hard to follow, but this book is fantastic! Not only does it describe each exercise in detail, but there are also pictures which I found to be very helpful. I work out a lot and it's nice to have a reference book instead of having to Google different exercises or look on Pinterest. Even my husband was impressed by how this book was put together. It is easy to follow and it is very easy to find the exercises you are looking for. And this book includes a wide range of different exercises, using machines, body weight and weights. I was sent a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
