Ice Me Out

Rate this book
To my well-to-do “Catholic” parents, there was one thing that was unforgivable, not murder or theft. No, the worst thing I could ever have done was gotten pregnant out of wedlock. Basically, kidnapped from my life, I was sent to live in London with my eccentric great aunt Jocelyn, all contact with my former life was completely cut off, including any communication with my baby’s father.

Luckily for me, Aunt Jocelyn and her son were like the family I’d always wished mine had been. After an incredibly hard pregnancy, I’d had my beautiful daughter and made the best of my new life.

But when Aunt Jocelyn suddenly dies, I’m shocked to find out she left me her run-down house in my old hometown. Encouraged by my cousin to reclaim my life, I apply to college and get accepted so I move back and set about restoring the beautiful old home, and my life, to its former glory.

But that meant finally facing my past and discovering all the lies regarding my disappearance. I really don’t need the complication of my budding attraction to three different men; the man helping me restore my house, my study partner and none other than my daughter’s father who is now a big shot, playing in the major hockey league, but fate doesn’t care.

Apparently, I'm returning to the land of the living, and I'm not going to slink back in with my tail tucked in shame. No, I'm coming back like a wrecking ball, with my head held high and my heart on the line.

Fun

I was loving the book until around the 70% mark. Then it seemed to get super rushed. The primal play and sub play came outta no where and needed a conversation. The h hadn't had any relationship or sex in about 6 years. She was a teenager when she was sexually active then had a kid and stopped then 6 years later hooks up with 3 guys and is an instant sub and does primal play like a pro. There were still so many questions at the end of the book. We needed hea scenes with the entire family. I think if this was a duet or 700 pages it could have been a much better story.

Great contemporary reverse harem story! It's medium burn and low steam. I don't want to call it a Sports Romance because ice hockey doesn't play much of a role here. I liked the relationships that developed between FMC and two of the guys. However, baby daddy doesn't find FMC until maybe 75% through the story, and then he spends a bunch of time mad. They don't get any relationship development or romance. Kash goes from mad at FMC to having sex with her. He's hardly even in the story. I expected a bit more from their relationship, and it was a letdown that he's scarcely involved in the book.

I liked the multiple pov.
The ending with her parents seemed like a fake your own death scenario until they said the cod.
Overall, it was a good story.

I tried so hard to finish this book. It was just God awful. It had sooo much potential but was executed like a wet rag… with ratty holes.

Spoilers:

1) the FMC personality is horrendous. She gets mad and defensive over mundane conversational things for zero reason. There is nothing likable about her.

2) the daughter. No five year old (who has never attended school before) speaks the way this child does. In proper complete sentences.

3) I had to skip entire paragraphs because it just drags on and on about things that don’t contribute to the story at all. I don’t need a step by step description on home repairs. Just name the damage and that it’s being fixed JFC.

4) I made it to 60% before giving up and the baby daddy still has no idea about his secret daughter. Wtf is the point in the story at this point?

5) there are a billion plot holes and nothing in this story makes sense. For instance, this is a small gossipy town and everyone knows everyone… yet her grandparents hired a P.I to look for her for years but their friends were in contact with the woman our FMC was living with and knew the truth yet it just never came up? No “btw your granddaughter is living with our friend who used to be our neighbor and we talk all the time”?
Also the parents shipped her off and disowned her bc she got pregnant bc they didn’t want their reputation tarnished yet they told everyone she left bc she was addicted to drugs and ran off with a biker? Make it make sense.
Also our FMC grew up with her baby daddy and was besties with his sister, yet she never knew or met his two best friends that he also grew up with? In a small town where everyone knows everyone?

Also, there is zero spice. It’s a RH for F-sakes. No spice still at 60%. The inner monologue and tedious descriptions on mundane things fills most of this book.

Don’t waste your time.

I had this book pre-ordered and was superexcited when I got it. It fell short of my expectations though and I had to skim a lot to be able to finish it.

The thing that bothered me the most is that almost everyone knew about the kid already except the father, and the father only finds out around the 70% mark of the book. Also, she hooks up with his two roommates before they’ve even told the father that he has a kid, before she’s met and talked to the father again,… and that was a big no-no for me. I would feel so betrayed that no one talked to me or even considered me before jumping into a relationship with the love of my life who coincidentally had my baby without me knowing.

Second biggest thing to bother me was how forced it felt to introduce a non-monogamous relationship. It was mentioned a couple times in a ‘beat you over the head with it’-way to make it make sense for the characters to just jump into a RH without much thought, but it happened way too fast, without a lot of communication or thinking. These guys knew her for a couple of days before deciding she was ‘the one’ and deciding they just had to get into a non-conventional relationship with her without really getting to know her first.

It’s a good quick read if you want a bit of a mindless read without thinking about it too much, but fell short for what I personally wanted.

I absolutely loved this until the last 10-15%. It was super good, but the ending just felt so rushed and it sort of left me feeling unsatisfied. Besides the ending, this was *chef's kiss*

This book was so 💯🔥❤️good until last 10%. It kept me up all night rooting for the FMC and a HEA.and turned to weird 🙈🙉🙊crap. With so many things left unsettled. Augh. So disappointed in the ending. 😞the more Ive thought about it the more upset I get with the crap, unfinished not true HEA ending. Tempted to drop to 2 ⭐😡

Entertaining 3.5/4

This book is something I would not normally read. And it was pretty good it was very insta love. It was the best case scenario all around. Miriam's daughter, I loved her so much that she was hilarious, probably my favorite character. Reading this book you really do have to suspend reality and I know it's just a book but everyone's just accepting of a poly relationship, your child who you have not mentioned who their dad is also meets him by chance and everything is amazing. The daughter's father finds out that his best friends are also seeing who he thought was the love of his life, and he's only mad about it for like a week. And then the ending with the parents was weird. I think my least favorite part of this book was there were two spicy scenes in this entire book and it wasn't the limited number of scenes in the book that bothered me it was the type of spice. Because you only get those two scenes, it seemed like the author was trying to throw everything into those scenes, and it seemed really out of place. I know this seems like a mostly critical review, but it really was entertaining. I read the whole book in one day, and it kept me engaged enough to read the whole thing. It did have some really funny moments and definitely some eye roll moments. But if you're looking for a fun entertaining read, this was good.

❗️SPOILERS❗️

Ice Me Out is a standalone, written in a 4 person multi POV. I didn't hate this book, but I'm so torn between the rating because I did like it but at the same time I thought it had so much more potential. I feel like it had a slow start, even though the guys fall fast - there was some cute times with each guy, and drama about her return to town, but the last 20% of the book felt rushed. I did love the characters. I did love the characters, and each MMC had parts that I loved, I couldn't pick a favorite. And there is my struggle of where my head is at when it comes to this book, either way I'd still recommend it.

When Miriam gets pregnant as a teenager, her parents ship her off to London to live with her Aunt Jocelyn and cousin Seamus and his husband Darcy. Her parents spread lies through the town about why she disappeared. Her Grandparents don't believe the lies, and spend years searching for her but can never find her. At the time, her boyfriend Kashton and her best friend Kira are so hurt by her disappearance that they believe her horrible parents, even though deep down they know they told lies and Miriam would never just disappear without a trace. She had a rough pregnancy, so she decided it was best to stop worrying about the past and focus on herself and the baby (Jorja.) When her Aunt Jocelyn passes away, she's left her house back in their hometown. Even though Miriam is afraid of her parents, she decides to go back home and try to pick up her life again.
_______________________________
🩷 "I wish I'd taken Jocelyns advice and reached out years ago. But who knows, maybe I was never meant to be just for him. Maybe I'm exactly where I needed to be now." - Miriam
_______________________________
Noah Wilson is the grandson of her neighbors Frank and Mae, when a tree crashes into the roof of Miriams home, he comes out to look at it and he and his brothers come up with a list of things that need to be fixed to make the house safe. The house hadn't been lived in for over 20 years, so it needed some updating and TLC. And... He's got a filthy mouth, and a bossy side in the bedroom.

Bentley Carlyle is one of her classmates in her marketing class. They are partnered to work together on a project, and they both want to use their project to present their ideas for their future businesses. Mimi wants to open up a flower shop and B wants to open up a family friendly restaurant. They get off to a bumpy start at first, but eventually they work through it. And he's so sweet! One of my favorite parts of the book is when Jorja is sick and he runs into them at the supermarket. When Jorja gets sick all over Mimi, he helps get them cleaned up, drives them home and makes home made soup for her.

Kashton Young is Miriam's ex boyfriend and Jorja's father. He was completely heartbroken when Miriam disappeared, and had no idea he had a child. When Mimi comes back, and he's blindsided (and last to know) that Jorja exists... He's upset with Mimi because he didn't know her reasoning, and he missed so much of Jorja's life but he loves her right away and doesn't want to miss a thing. He has the hardest time trying to see how he fits into the relationship with Mimi and the guys.
_______________________________
🩷"I still love her, man, and if that means I have to love her along with you two assholes, then that’s okay with me. Over the week, I’ve seen that both of you are all in." - Kash
_______________________________
The guys recently read an article in a hockey magazine about two NHL players who are in a poly relationship with a woman and another man. And when Noah and Bentley realize that they have a crush on the same girl, and that Jorja is Kashton's daughter - they start to drop hints about a poly relationship. Because they figure that's the perfect relationship for them, they don't have to worry about a woman coming in between them, and when Kash has away games, someone would be around for the girls. And the same with B when his restaurant opens up. Kash isn't sure right away, he knows that he loves her still, but he couldn't figure out the sexual parts of their relationship. This is when the guys intervene and set up a fake game of hide&seek and whoever finds her first, gets to fuck her.
_______________________________
🩷 "We're not sharing our girls with anyone else." - Noah
_______________________________
Jorja needs her own paragraph too. She's hilarious and grown up for her age. Their Aunt Jocelyn was in poly relationships, so she was familiar with seeing her in love with multiple people. And when she finds out one of the kids in her class has two daddies and a mom, she immediately suggests that her Mom date both Noah and Bentley. She thinks Noah is perfect because he's a good fixer and Bentley because he's a good cook. At the time she didn't know Kash was her father, and once she finds out she assumes he'll be a part of everything. And all of the guys are suckers for her. She's one loved and lucky little girl.

🩷MY FAVORITE JORJA QUOTES:🩷
▪️“But, Mama, how am I supposed to find things out if I don’t snoop?”
▪️“Hey, Noah, did you kiss my mom and squeeze her bottom like Bentley did?”
▪️“It’s okay, Daddy. They are Mama’s boyfriends, but you can be her boyfriend too. She might need a bigger bed, though, because I don’t think you will fit in it with the three of them.”

❤️FINAL THOUGHTS❤️
▪️The parts with her parents at the end felt rushed. I wish there was more of that drama, but it was kind of like "hey we're here and going to try to ruin your life" and then they were dead before anything happened. I'd have loved to seen the FBI part played out, or even see this as a duet so it didn't have a rushed ending.
▪️ WTF is going on with Peaches? It was weird to having something going on with her, but it didn't seem to play into anything in the story. I thought maybe it would come out that Miriam and her were sisters, but there was no point.
▪️I want more sexy time. She only slept with Kash individually, and then a 3some between her, Bentley and Noah. The epilogue ends with an adult version of hide & seek, the men wearing wolf masks, her in a red riding hood cape and they tell her to run and then the book ends... I wanted the details. I needed more. I was left with the female equivalent of blue balls, lol.

This went from fairly solid to repetitive floundering to warp speed disappointment straight into a wall. Unfortunately, the author really did themselves a disservice. They had a good idea, they are good at writing and the characters were interesting. And then around 70% in it was like someone else took over the project and just rushed to complete it. And don’t even get me started on the last ~15 pages. I have plot whiplash. I don’t understand what the thought process was for any of those choices.

This started out promising but went off the rails at about 60% my two biggest gripes:
-the father of her child, Kashton (what a dumb name) doesn’t find out about said child till 70%
-colleges don’t have bells that ring to signify the end of the period

Amazing Standalone

Normally I’m not a huge fan of standalones as I find the characters don’t have enough time to be properly introduced, or enough time for the reader to fall for them. It’s usually rushed, it doesn’t feel like a natural progression of the story and they might have missing pieces that would amplify their wants and needs.
This book was nothing like that. Each character was fleshed out to the point that I wanted them all to have a happy ending almost immediately from meeting them.
The 3 men, their point of views gave us insight to each of them and how they revolve around the female lead character. The story naturally progressed to her dating them all, and how her daughter Jorja brought them all together when it all started with her getting pregnant at 17 and being sent off to live with an estranged aunt in another country. My heart broken for her and jorja, but I also laughed and smiled along because Jorja was written exactly how I would imagine a 6 year old would act. If only there was a way to bottle up all that energy and save it for mom and dad when they are all out. I loved how Miriam got to reunite with her grand parents, her best friend and how she went on to start her business. I loved it all. Including the sex scenes. Which was different than many other books. I didn’t skip past it, which I do a lot in other books. I find a lot of the times, the build up is to much and the scenes fall flat, and are chapters and chapters long. I felt in this one it was done in a way that made me cheer for Mimi. She deserves all the love she can get. I only wish that this book was longer. I couldn’t get enough of this story. So sad it’s done.

An interesting ending of the story in all senses. The only thing that I would like to add is the full ending of the epilogue but on other hand it’s a good opportunity to use your imagination to guess what happened next 😁🔥

I was doubtful of the secret baby trope (usually I don’t choose books with it 🤷🏻‍♀️) but when it’s your favorite author’s new creation you are happy to give it a try! I am not disappointed in the slightest, loved the book with all its turns and surprises 🙃

Perhaps I would also like to see moooore time with each character separately and their bonding but all that I’ve seen was good enough to be happy for Miriam (FMC) and her girl 💛 I didn’t expect from myself the reaction I got at the moment when Jorja met her dad 💕 My eyes were teary and I fully felt what Kashton felt ❤️‍🩹

I was also upset about no MM in the book before reading but. that. was. totaly. okay. in this case! 😁 There’s enough heat to see there 😏
If you like praises and a bit of sub/Dom - that’s your book of choice.

Great families, so much support system and strength. I wish the same to every person in the world ❤️

And Shaley with her son, so happy for them too! Spreading love and caring in the world 🫶🏼 Thank you Lexie for adding them to the plot 🤗

Honestly, this is more of like a 2.5* for me… The idea of the story was good. The execution of it was not. I know it’s not true, but the writing in the beginning had me thinking “this isn’t a seasoned author”. That how the book felt, but it wasn’t bad. However, once the “spice” got involved (and I love spice), it just made it ridiculous for me. It didn’t work at all. I liked the guys for the most part, until all of a sudden they become “Doms” in the bedroom, but really it feels like they’re role playing and don’t know much. I also felt that it did a disservice to the characters that they were determining that the FMC would be in a poly relationship with the mmcs because they deemed it so after meeting her twice, and when they informed her, she just went along with it… The storyline about her parents was utterly ridiculous as well. Not only did it not add to the story, but it took away from it. The book could have been written without them period, maybe a side note that they had moved or passed away and that’s what she could come home. Same with the mean girl. I felt like the author was just trying to write a book of cliches….

Ice Hockey is one of my favourite tropes at the moment, especially ones like this that are also R/H. Lexie does a brilliant job with this short and steamy read.
Mimi is a fantastic FMC who has been lucky to have a wonderful extended family to help and support her after her parents actions.
The guys are all hot, love that they already function as a family before they encounter Mimi. They all bring something unique to the relationship, sad we didn’t get a scene with all of them in, wish that last chapter had been just a little longer.
Kashton I think was my favourite, his shock and surprise at their reunion brought a tear to my eye, I’m a sucker for second chances.
Some great laughs too, especially from Jorja, kids are so brutally honest.
Fantastic that the Neighpalm name is mentioned, almost expected Kai to make a cameo appearance.

IMO there's a huge difference between slow burn and repetitively dragging out a story. Character interactions and supporting characters had witty banter that was a lot of fun. The kid was at times quirky & cute but other times to adult. Kash, Bentley, Noah were great MMC's, Mimi's a well rounded FMC. There was a comfortable and sweet intimacy to outside of the bedroom, but the steam didn't feel authentic.
This felt like the author got stuck repeating minor details (like telling Jorja to clean her teeth obsessively) the first 60% is told over a week long period, absolutely everyone buying into her side of her disappearance and completely supporting poly relationship without the exception of 1 MMC seemed rushed. The whole hiding in plain sight was absurd. Then all of sudden they come together and it just cuts off. Boom done out of no where. This story really needed an epilogue

This is my first book from Lexie Winston and it was fabulous! Mimi and her daughter, Jorja, are an absolute delight. Noah, Bentley, and Kashton are wonderful friends for each other. No thanks to Mimi’s evil parents she had to leave her home, friends, family, and Kashton behind as they sent her and her unborn daughter away. Ugly lies, threats, and illness kept them apart for 6 years.

Lexi’s characters are memorable and this storyline was heartbreaking. She orchestrated a huge cast in telling Mimi’s story with a narrative and dialogue that’s funny, sad, and so hopeful. I love RH and the way Lexi brought Mimi and her men together is genius. Her sex scenes were steamy, dirty, and delicious leaving me wanting more, especially at the end! More, please!

3.5 or 3.6? Still a good rating but was sort of missing some …..ummph. The story had all the elements and really liked the female lead. I felt sympathy for her situation and the bits about raising a child on your own hit very close to home. The story had a lot of moving parts with interesting side characters so it became rushed and hard to feel there was good character development. It seems a good story to create additional story lines and the humor gave me a chuckle. The ending was way too trite - booo. Understandable to try and figure out an “ending” and get rid of “problems” in a quick way - booo. Will have to read additional books to get a feel for the author because of the humor and a few other things that pulled me in.

This standalone by Lexie Wiston has the perfect balance between fun and lovely characters, Jorja, the kid, is a scene stealer, enjoyable storyline with a bit of dark (and spice) in it and the HEA that you want in this type of story. I've read her Neighpalm Series so I knew the quality of the writing was there.

I read it in one go and it was exactly what I need between other books, so if you are waiting for a book in a series and you don't wanna start a new one, I recommend you to give a try.

I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read more about the other characters (I'm hoping for more Peaches (...with Dylan maybe), Ginny or Shaley's story in the future).

Sad it’s a standalone

I didn’t even read the premise. Lexie Winston is a buy it now author for me and I wasn’t disappointed. I think she could have eked out a second book just so I could have more Jorja. She really was the best character and I say that while loving every character. I laughed until I cried and I don’t think I’ll ever hear the word “meat” the same again. I wish Kash was notified of everything earlier in the book so that he could spend more bonding time with Jorja, otherwise I have no complaints. I can’t wait to see what comes next for this town and the residents.

Review to come…. When I finally process how that book just blew me away!

Or maybe that’s the review right there. Lexi Winston is a new to me author, but not for long. I absolutely adored Bentley and Noah. How they interacted with Jorji was absolutely swoon worthy and my heart melted a little. I was worried what would happen when Kash came back into the picture but I love how Lexi wrote it out! Definite must read.

Heartwarming, unputdownable, steamy… make sure to bring a fan because once those guys get going it doesn’t stop.

If you love books like Pucking Around and Pucking Wild you will LOVE this story! Who doesn’t love why choose?

really enjoyable

I think this is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy her writing style but it really improved as the book progressed. The storyline wasn’t too deep but was still strong. What I really did enjoy was the characters. Not only were the main characters well thought out and developed but the supporting ones were too. This created excellent world building. I look forward to reading more in this series with other characters, maybe with slightly more angst. I am going to look for more books by this author and if they are as enjoyable as this, she may slip into my top 5 authors.

Good Read.

This book is a MFMM sports reverse harem romance, written in first person and is MPOV. In my opinion it is slow/medium burn and low/medium spice. I loved the story of this book. It was nice to see her reconcile with friends, family and her childhood love after explaining to them what had been happening with her. I also loved the way Jorja was written, it reminded me of what it was like to have an honest and observant child around which made me smile, especially at the double entendres. Overall, it was a good read and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I would recommend giving it a read.

Second chance hockey romance bliss

This was a super cute easy insta love second chance secret baby college hockey RH romance. I think I got them all and I am here for them. This story is about a young person who with the love and support of the right people overcomes a truly horrible and terrifying situation to reclaim her life. The boys were hawt and the children were adorable. Special cameos by Neighpalm and Nova Stone were *chef's kiss* I loved reading Mimi's story and this was a great standalone with a lovely HEA

Amazing! 👏

I absolutely loved this standalone it had everything you want in a book, some heartbreak, second chances, new love, babies, and taking back your life. This was Mimis story and how she struggled when she suddenly finds herself pregnant with a family who wants nothing to do with her and ships her off. She struggles for 6 long years until her aunt dies suddenly and leaves her a house back in her hometown, where she is able to get her second chance. I loved the storyline and characters, and the HEA was perfect!!

Needed to be longer.

The cover screams sports romance and so does the name but it really wasn’t sports romance. There is a ice hockey player in it but people gathered at one game and it wasn’t about the sport. It was the cleanest RH I’ve ever read with one 3-way scene and one 2-way scene and really need to be a longer novel to get all this is a standalone, the last third was just so rushed it was unbelievable. I didn’t really get enough time to get to know the characters.

And not having an all in scene in a RH…. Dude!!!

a decent book, with good characters.

It took far too long to get everything out in the open and far too long for Kash to know anything was even going on. It was so quick to him finding out after taking half the book to get there and yet everyone knew. The fall out with the parents was so quick and their ending was swift but like they made them out to be evil masterminds and they just weren’t. I wish we had gotten to see the group dynamic at the end play out. Some more time all together before it was over. Overall it was a decent book, with good characters.

A good ice hockey, why choose romance. Predictable in places but overall a good storyline. I don’t know what Miriam expected after coming home and meeting every influential person in town that knows her grandparents and parents, and be able to keep living u see the radar? I enjoyed the smirking attitude of Lou in the end, where she absolutely had something to do with the untimely demise of Miriam’s parents. I would have enjoyed the epilogue to include the opening of the flower shop, but still neatly tidied up.
