This story is based on various accounts of a female agent in the Culper Spy Ring during the Revolutionary War. There is very little information out there about agent 355, and what is out there is often in conflict with other sources. Many historians it seems, discount the possibility of 355 in the Culper code referring to a specific person at all. But what if there was an important female Patriot spy in a British stronghold during the Revolutionary War?
An intriguing concept - the story of a baker turned spy in the Revolutionary War. But the diary reads more like a textbook. Very impersonal. And it's so short it doesn't do the real story any justice. More like a short story that just gives the broad strokes.
I found the author's profile and explanation plausible although as a War of Independence buff I know women prisoners were not put on prison ships. I enjoyed the plot and characters though.
Really interesting read detailing the feelings of a girl from age 15 through 20, what she went through having to hide her patriotic feelings, and risking her life getting the information to the patriots.
