This book was about an African American woman named Rosa Parks and the day she sat on the bus and stood up for her civil rights. It provides a backstory of things that were going on at the time such as segregation, schooling for both black and white students, and laws that were trying to be changed. It talked about what happened the day she decided to keep sitting and what came after her arrest. It talked about the bus boycott that followed her brave act and how it lasted 381 days. The Supreme Court made a decision that people who rode the bus had the right to sit where they wanted. At the end of the text there is a Rosa Park's timeline presented so that student's can easily follow through the books events. It was a great book that is an easy reader so that students of different levels could follow along with. It provided important information and would be a great lead in to talking about civil rights or past events involving African American history.

A short, easy read for individuals who are interested in Civil Rights and those leaders who worked to make change. Rosa Parks is an extraordinary woman who shows that "normal" people can effect enormous change. This book provides emergent readers access into the life and contributions of Rosa Parks.

Perhaps the most salient information in the novel is about the training that Ms. Parks received on civil disobedience. It reminds me that amazing people rarely happen upon their greatness. Instead, greatness is achieved through effort and preparedness. A pretty important lesson for anyone who hopes to effect change in the world.

No awards have been given to this book. The age group is Pre-k to 2. In the story, it tells the timeline of Rosa Parks life-Who she was, and why she is so important. I like this book, I thought it gave very good details, and it was an easy read that allows young children to understand the heavy impact that Rosa Parks had on our nation's history. One in class use for this book is during Black History Month. Another in class use is students can do an ELA lesson where they draw a picture and explain an important event from the book.
