There's one code when it comes to the wall of blue…and Madison Knight may have to cross it.
Any good cop knows you never report a brother for mishandling a case or accuse him of misconduct, but in order to find justice, Madison may not have a choice.
Lacy Rose had one goal for her twentieth birthday—to be found innocent of past sins—but her life is cut short.
When Lacy's remains are found in a garden and the investigation becomes connected to a closed case, Madison must face her past. The lead detective on that case was Madison's ex-fiancé. At the risk of jeopardizing departmental relationships, and churning up the attention of an old flame at the same time, Madison must push hard before the guilty are found innocent.

Found Innocent is a great continuation in the chronicles of snarky, dedicated major crimes detective Madison Knight. It follows her investigation of a complicated, twisted case involving a young woman who seemingly killed herself and yet was found buried in a garden. Murder? Or a cover up of some kind? Madison as usual finds herself deeply involved in this case and her emotions only get worse when a ghost from her past ends up being a crucial piece to the puzzle.
I adore Madison and find it impossible to not relate to her in many ways. She's clever, courageous, and a workaholic with demons in her past she has a hard time getting over. Her relationship with her partner Terry is humorous and provides plenty of light moments to counter the dark case they are trying to solve. I enjoyed the many players that popped up as the case got deeper, and the way Arnold cleverly wove the threads to tie up into a neat bow at the explosive ending. This is a fantastic addition to the bestselling series that only gets better the more books Arnold cranks out!
Note: I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I really enjoy how the author Carolyn Arnold writes the banter and underlying tension between Knight and Grant. How Grant always is on edge because of Knight’s mouthing off to superiors and her driving. I enjoy how real Knight is as a female character who when stressed or frustrated reaches for her chocolate bar, and eats it unabashed.
This story had so many moving parts it was up and down, backwards and forewords. That major twist which I will not spill at the end was shocking. Or should I say two major twists.
Great story love the characters of this series. Wonder how Sovereign will pan out with Knight in the end.
Madison and Terry are back and I enjoyed how there partnership is progressing and we are learning more about their characters along side them.
This one had a lot of twists and turns and action that will keep you on your toes as Madison discovers the current suicide case she is working is eerily similar to a cold case.
I have to admit I love going back to the early books on the series as I started the Knight series at book 8, so watching Madison and Terry grown and progress as characters is always a good thing,
I enjoyed the book but felt the author really wanted a twisted plot to keep the readers intrigued. And maybe it became too twisted between multiple crimes and red herrings. The forensic reveal occured after all the tail chasing. oops spoiler. I try not to do that. She tried to drop bread crumbs for you to want to read the next book. I pray the characters arenot growing tiresome and shark jumping.
Terry and Madison are getting a good team together. Madison is even working with her boss, to Terry's surprise. Terry's secret work he has done on computers comes in handy looking for the killers. Lots of twists and turns to find if it was a suicide like it is meant to look like, or who killed the girl everyone loved.
Total Fiction. The reader quickly realizes that the author does not write accurate, police procedural books. I don’t read super technical books police procedural books but I do can tell when the author is simply storytelling. I personally find that annoying because I quickly pick up inconsistencies. I wouldn’t pay for another book by the author.
Maybe it was just me, but so many characters I had trouble keeping them straight. Even conversations between Maddy and Terry or between Maddy and Cynthia I had to read twice to decipher who was speaking. It might be in a following book, but would have liked to know how Terry’s family situation turned out.
I often term these books as pallet cleansers . My wife picks on me about them ( she's more of a literary snob I ) due to my ability of reading anything. I enjoy these books because it's just a nice non mental taxing escape. I don't expect much from them.... Not exactly Dickens..... But I wasn't looking for that.....
Wow, this book was great. Madison night is one heck of a detective. Her brain is always moving. She’s always on her way to figuring out who did what and why so many twists and turns and thrills in this book I absolutely love Carolyn Arnold. I am now on book 5 in this series. I really really love this series. It is. Wonderful.🩷
2 suspicious suicides give Madison and Terry time to learn more about each other and strengthen their partnership. More and more suspects keep them running into brick walls.
Was 80% through this book, bypassing paragraphs, then skipping pages. Finally I was done. Not with the book. Done with putting up with the book. I didn't care any more. I returned to page one and highlighted the first few words in yellow.
This book had a better aspect of the crime and the suspects. I enjoyed the ride to finding the truth. Shocked in the end as I thought I knew who did it but turned out I was wrong a couple times. I loved it.
The story is about a detective in a police department! Madison Knight is a strong willed women. So, it is about police procedure and investigating a crime. It has a lot of excitement during story. Loved it
I really struggled with this book. I am not a quitter with books. Even if I have to start another book or two before I TRUDGE through to the end. Reading this reminded me of horrible college English reading assignments: "renowned authors" who were the absolute opposite.
I truly enjoyed this book. Interesting twists and turns kept me entertained and I was surprised at the ending. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Found Innocent by Carolyn Arnold is the 4th book in her Madison Knight series. For those who have not read this series, Madison is a great heroine, and this series is a wonderful suspenseful crime thriller.
Madison is a detective in the major crimes division; she is an extremely tough no nonsense cop, who usually solves her cases. Madison doesn’t care if she comes across as rude or abrupt; her main focus is finding the killer, even if she has so many obstacles alone the way, including her own boss. Madison also has very little support, with a select few that she considers friends. Beneath her tough exterior, Madison is lonely, having had two recent ruined relationships, but she does have her dog, Hershey to keep her company at nights.
Madison becomes embroiled in a strange case, that involves the apparent suicide of a young hooker, who supposedly shot herself. When Madison investigates, she knows that not all is what it looks like. This case has so many plots and twists, with Madison discovering another suicide case that is similar and she suspects is another related murder. Her main suspects are a pimp, a druggie, a good Samaritan, and the list keeps getting bigger. As is Arnold’s trademark, there are many suspects, intense action, and you truly cannot blink or you will miss another twist.
Complicating Madison’s life is her ex comes back on the scene, as he is also a detective, and he wants her back. Will Madison give in to her heart? I have said this before in other reviews for this series, but Arnold does a masterful job putting the pieces together in a complex murder case. Her knowledge of how the criminal procedurals work is fantastic. She has us unsuccessfully trying to solve this crime; as we follow Madison through every step, looking at all the clues, forensic reports, twists, suspects; but Madison is great and she will solve it. Good thing I am not a detective. Lol
The only thing I would like to see in future books is a better support team for Madison. I’m not a Terry fan (her partner), and the sergeant, who is her boss is not supportive for a great cop like Madison. What makes the In Death series so great, is the support team that surrounds Eve, to help her solve the cases. Madison Knight stands alone, which doesn’t sit well with me. She does have a friend, who is ok, but could be even more supportive.
Found Innocent is another gripping thriller by Arnold, with non stop action throughout. If you love crime dramas, mysteries, and a tough female cop, this series is not to be missed.
When Madison Knight investigates the death of Lacy Rose, whose body was found in a shallow grave, she can’t believe the woman committed suicide. After all, a suicide victim could hardly bury herself! When the investigation uncovers domestic abuse, drug trafficking, and a rich man setting up Lacy in a swanky apartment, the dominoes start to fall. Those same dominoes smack right into a “closed” case of another suicide victim, a man who died about the same time as Lacy.
Unfortunately Madison decides to reopen a case that could make another cop look bad. That cop is also Madison’s ex-lover, a man she’s desperate to avoid. Madison is a savvy woman and dedicated police officer who doggedly follows her instincts until she solves her case. She’s sure the two “suicides” are really murders, but no one cares about drug users except for Madison. She must learn the truth, no matter who gets in her way.
The more Madison unravels the strings in the complicated life of her victim, the other suicide emerges as a key player in the tragedy. Will Madison’s own personal feelings about her ex hamper her objectivity? When her ex-lover turns up at her door with romance in his eyes, can Madison slam the door on a man she once loved? He may be a lying cheat, but she’s lonely and still yearns for his embrace.
This novel is a riveting, complex story that is more than just a standard police procedural. Madison Knight is a well-rounded character with strong emotions and sharp intelligence. If you’ve read previous books in the series, this is another absorbing episode in a continuing saga. If this is your first Madison Knight book, it stands on its own, but you might be tempted to buy them all.
This is a pretty good novel, a good mystery with a couple of twists. The lead character is a female homicide detective. She's acerbic and pushy and seems to have only one friend. It seems she works at pushing other people's buttons, even when it is not needed. She has 'men' issues - failed marriage, or relationship - and is unforgiving, especially when the man is also a detective she bumps into in the precinct. For me there is too much anguish and emotion wasted on this side aspect - it was wasted filler. It added nothing to the story. I don't know if this is part of a Madison Knight series, which might explain some of the backstory. I don't think that info would make the story better. Backstory info might explain the epilogue - which made no sense at all. It was a lousy way to end the novel, or worse - a cliff hanger for the next novel. Good golly Miss Molly I hate cliff hangers because most are done so poorly. She is asked by a woman to look into a case that was declared a suicide, plus she and her partner get a case of a murdered young lady. Hmmmm, I wonder if the two are connected? Everyone says, "No." Hm mm, I wonder if she'll pursue it anyway.
This was a really good book. If you are a fan of mystery/thriller/suspense then you would most like this story. Madison Knight is a detective. When the story opens, she and her partner, Terry, are called to a crime scene where a landlord discovered a dead body buried in the back yard of one of his properties. While it first appears as though the woman committed suicide there's still the question of who buried her. As they work the case, they find there is a lot more involved, including ties with another so-called suicide. There were plenty of twists and turns but I had no problem keeping up with the fast pace of the story. I really liked the characters and the personal aspects of their lives the author included in the book. While there were numerous suspects, everything came together and was neatly tied up by the time I got to the end. Will definitely be reading more of Carolyn Arnold's work.
I really wanted to like this book. The synopsis made it sound so good. I don't know why I bothered to finish reading it. I didn't feel like I really understood or knew anything about the characters (probable cause: didn't read the first three books). I wasn't invested & didn't feel like the plot really progressed towards interesting until I was halfway through. At that point, it picked up so I read to find out how it ended.
The "epilogue" was more like a prologue for the next book. If the character stories develop anymore I'll never know because I'm not going to read book 5. I was hoping the epilogue would have given some light to what was about to happen with Madison and one of the other characters.
