Petie McCarty has sweetened the romance genre with NO ANGELS FOR CHRISTMAS, a story about love, belief, trust, compassion and the inner strength to do what must be done.

Child psychologist Rachel Kelly’s newest clients are a six-year-old boy who talks to angels and two young teens struggling with nightmarish home lives. Her own life is in upheaval and she herself is struggling with a broken heart, broken relationship and the secret that cost her the one man who completed her.

Jake Dillon, police negotiator was crushed when Rachel said she didn’t want children, was it just HIS children or was it something else he missed in her words?

When a children’s Christmas party becomes a deadly hostage situation, Jake must call on all of his training to talk a misguided man down from the edge of no return, but does he have what it takes to save the innocents, including the only woman he will ever love?

It will take a miracle and time is running out…

Ms. McCarty has woven a tale filled with slices of life that go on all around us and the brought them together in one tension-filled moment in time where those involved must take a leap of faith and believe in the unseeable, themselves and their hearts as human weaknesses and the power of love collide in an explosive situation that will have readers looking for that special miracle themselves.

Beautifully written, this story proves that even the professionals must rely on more than their “education” in life. Prepare to be surprised at some characters’ actions, to smile at others, to feel frustration and even fear as we hope for Alex’s angels to be real!

Rachel Kelly is still reeling from her breakup with Lt. Jake Dillon but continues her work as a child psychologist. She agrees to take on three new clients including two middle-school aged kids dealing with abuse in their homes. As Christmas approaches, she asks each child to say a prayer for Christmas. Little does Rachel know, there are angels in her life who’ve come to help her and her clients. When a stalker crashes Rachel’s Christmas party, she calls the only man she’s ever loved, Lt. Jake Dillon. Will he rescue them in time or will it be too late?

No Angels for Christmas is a Christmas story about second chances and helping those most vulnerable: children. At the crux of this story is a preteen girl who’s being harassed by her mother’s boyfriend. He touches her and wants to do more. Also at the heart of this story is a preteen boy whose father beats him and his mother. The on again off again romance between Rachel and Jake take a backseat but still contribute to the dramatic tension.

Three dramatic storylines were, in my humble opinion, too much. Two would’ve been just fine and actually one would’ve been ideal. I know there are readers out there who thrive on the multiple angst but I’m not one of those. I found the angst too much for me to deal with and I had to take breaks from reading it.

I was also unprepared for the heavy Christian message interwoven throughout the plot. Bible verses and praying are prevalent. I didn’t mind, though, because what you’re dealing with in this story relies on faith and the appearance of angels answering prayers. It just caught me by surprise because this hasn’t appeared in any of Petie McCarty’s books I’ve read before.

If you’re looking for a dramatic story with an uplifting message, pick up No Angels for Christmas today. You’ll be crying tears of joy when you reach the ending.

Angel to the Rescue was not what I expected, it surprised me. I was expecting a romantic suspense novel, but what I read was so much more. This was a very troubling story that delved into issues, frightening issues. Issues that we tend to believe couldn’t happen to us or to our children. Issues like child abuse, pedophilia, and wife abuse. Unfortunately, these things do exist, and often they are taking place right before our eyes, but we miss the signs, or we look the other way.
Dr. Rachael Kelly is a child psychologist whose girlfriend, the school guidance counselor brings her two children for counseling, who she suspects are being abused in different ways. The goal is to get to the bottom of what is going on in their homes that are disrupting and threatening their lives. If these kids are being abused, they need proof or a confession at the very least. Unfortunately, both children are deathly afraid, scared into silence.
Rachael has her own set of difficulties in her private life. She has just broken up with Lt. Jake Dillon, a police psychologist who specializes in negotiating with hostage takers. Aside, from being a particularly irresistible guy, he also happens to be the love of her life. Jake wants to marry her, to have children with her, but she is keeping a secret from him, a secret she believes prohibits her from marrying him. These two spend most of the book lovesick for each other, but with neither willing to give an inch.
Angel to the Rescue, contains a very spiritual message and a fair amount of spiritual, magical moments, which is no surprise considering the title. It is just that spiritual element that gives the book its happily-ever-after ending.
I don’t want to spoil this book, which is a really wonderful read. I have only one complaint. I actually think this book should be a YA read. It contains such important messages for teens. It really should be a must-read in schools for teens.
When bad things happen, they are not always your fault.

This was an emotional story of such captivating characters. They all touched my heart in their own special way . I have read several of this authors books. Loved them all ,and so well written.
The characters in this story just jump off the page, and grab you.
Adorable little Alex, only 6 yrs old he sees angels.
Sweet Emily loves her mother so much, and she was so hurt by her mother and father's divorce. Emily hardly sees her mom anymore since Stanley her new stepfather is in the house. Emily is absolutely terrified of this man. He can't wait to get his hands on Emily. When she goes to see Dr. Rachel everything changes for Emily.
Chad is such a strong young boy, so courageous.Always protecting his younger brother, Will taking the beatings for him. When Chad sees his mother after being hit by his father. His heart was torn apart. Sassy saves the day for Chad, and then he told Dr. Rachel everything that is happening at home.
Dr. Rachel Kelly, Child Psychologist is still in love with LT. Jake Dillon of local police force. She has to tell him the truth about why she can't have children so he will understand. He loves her so much he doesn't care if they have kids. Jake just needs Dr. Rachel in his life too be happy. At the Christmas party in Dr. Rachel's office all her clients come to celebrate, but an unexpected guest arrives, and turns Dr. Rachel's Christmas party into a Christmas nightmare. A definite must read! Unputdownable page turner! I received this book for free from Ebook Discovery. I volunteered to review it and this is my honest review.

McCarty makes us believe in angels with Angel to the Rescue. Angel to the Rescue revolves around two main characters who are Rachel Kelly, a child psychologist and Lt. Jake Dillon, a police negotiator. Both Jake and Rachel’s lives are very insync and they are very in love with each other. Everything is falling into place with their love and world until Rachel receives a call from her mother. This changes their relationship and from there they do not see each other. Rachel is still in love with Jake and tries her best to get back to him. Meanwhile, Rachel starts to council three young children, one of them who is Alex and speaks to angels. During a session, Alex has seemed to pick up on Rachel and her life. He tells her that there is an angel coming to help her. Suddenly we see Rachel and the children in the line of fire when they become hostages. Will Jake be able to help them and where are the angels Alex is talking about? This story was really beautiful and page turning. Children like Alex have such a spiritual connection and it shows. I myself am a big believer in angels and it made me love Alex’s character even more. I was also rooting for the couple and hoped they that they would get their happy ending. If you are looking for a great read where angels and love are present, then you’ll have to read Angel to the Rescue.

This is the time reading anything by Petie McCarty and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this great story. The author has given us a great story with awesome main characters and the secondary characters as great and help to pull the whole story line together. This story will pull into it's pages and will you there from start to finish. The heroine of this story is Rachel Kelly who just happens to be a child psychologist with a great passion towards children and one handsome ex boyfriend Jake. Poor Rachel has a secret that she can't share with Jake ,that's tearing her apart. And as for Jake Dillon who is sexy ,handsome ,hero police Lt,who specialist in psychological profiler . And who truly loves Rachel very deeply. These two seems to suffer some misunderstanding. But one thing about this amazing couple is they are both very proud. Then there's Jay and Emily who are youngsters with problems that no kids should have This story has an ending that will surprise you. I could go on and tell you how this story ends but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this great story you won't be disappointed.

This book is the latest in The Mystery Angel Romance Series, No Angels for Christmas (The Mystery Angel Romance Series Book 2) by Petie McCarty.

It was an interesting read spanning a large variety of themes. From friendship, love and romance to abuse, violence and mental health issues, there was something in it for everyone.

The author’s character development was outstanding, especially given the number of characters that were in the book and their diversity. I didn’t really have a favourite, but, if pushed, I would say that I grew rather fond of Jake for his charm, caring nature and perseverance. Also worth a mention is Emily as I loved her friendliness and calming attitude.

The story and plot were fascinating and well-written, however, I found the pacing rather slow, especially around the middle of the novel where developments and events were being repeated and seemed laboured and drawn out.

I loved the dramatic ending and I would definitely recommend No Angels for Christmas as overall, it was a great read.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my own request. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

A middle school boy was being abused at home. A school girl was trying to escape the creepy leers of her future stepfather. Can Dr. Rachel, a renowned clinical psychologist, help them while also reeling from her broken heart?

This book starts off introducing the various characters. It takes a while to get to know them, but the reader does develop some form of connection with them. About a quarter of the way through, we meet the boy that can see Watchers—those that watch over people like angels. The story seems to revolve more on the break-up between Rachel and her ex-fiancé, Jake. The read can feel rather long and slow. As you’re reading this, you can’t help but wonder where and how these so-called Watchers are involved. Like I said, this can be a long story to get through. These characters basically wallow in their own problems and emotions. With all the crying that they do, you don’t see too much progress in these characters, but you still kind of root for them in some small way. I still didn’t get the angel angle. I guess, judging by all the religious references here, the story was alluding to the divine possibility of there being something more “out there”—something bigger that couldn’t be seen. Whatever the case, this was way longer than it should’ve been. All in all, however, this was a fairly nice read.

So I was just looking for Christmas books on Netgalley and came across this title, this book was NOTHING like I anticipated in the best ways possible. I think that this book dealt with a lot, child abuse, abandonment, illness, so many things but but at its heart was the fact that angels walk amongst us, and only the most innocent may ever be able to identify them.

I don't want to give away too much, but I will say that I really enjoyed this story, and especially in the year that has been 2020, it was a sweet read about what happens when we let our guards down and see the beauty that is all around us. Inspite of what we might be going through when we reach out and help others we might find the answers that we have been looking for.

Angels around us

Rachel, a therapist, was having difficulty trying to get two of her teenage clients to reveal their troubles. Another child, six year old Alex, became her patient because his parents were concerned because he saw and talked to angels. Rachel had problems of her own and was in turmoil. The whole book centers on the relationship between all these characters.
I could not put the book down. The author did an excellent job of weaving the story to an excellent ending. I would recommend this book for those who believe in angels and for those who will believe when they finish reading "Angel to the Rescue."

A Not Just for Christmas Romance

It took me more than a month beyond Christmas to finish but it didn’t matter. You don’t need Christmas feelings to appreciate the themes in this story. Jake breaks his engagement when his fiancée says she doesn’t want children. She is reluctant to admit that her discovery of a genetic defect makes it probable she will not be able to bear healthy children. In an involving 5 months they deal with their heartbreak realistically while continuing to work at their demanding jobs. When Christmas does come along with the angels, all the characters have become dimensional enough to capture the reader in a dramatic and satisfying ending.

I believe in Guardian Angels, and this is a truly wonderful read. It takes you into the lives of 3 children who desperately need help. And the love of two people whose careers are helping people, but their relationship encounters a huge issue at least from Rachel's standpoint! This book is a must read for all who love romance, suspense and angels!

Angels

I enjoyed this story. I even stayed up late to finish it. In spite of reading about everyone's traumas it still captivated me. I had one problem. Is Florida the locale, or somewhere else? Emily's dad has moved to FL, but is far away "up there".

Rachel Kelly is a child psychologist very much in love with her Lt. Jake Dillon. Jake is a police negotiator. Their lives could not have been more in tune and perfect when Jake asked her to put his name on the mortgage she was about to sign for a little cottage. But to make things even better, he not only wanted his name on the mortgage, he wanted to make Rachel's last name Dillon instead of Kelly.

Rachel's world just flew out of orbit the day Jake asked her to be his wife. But more importantly he wanted her to be the mother of the dozen or so children he wanted. How could the day been more than all one could have hoped for. Rachel had the man she loved, the home they had chosen and children in the future. Nothing could ever bring her down out of orbit. Until they returned home and she got a call from her mother. That call had Rachel's world down spiraling back to earth. And her relationship with Jake ending.

Rachel and Jake must see each other living in the same town. As Rachel tries to find her way back to Jake she takes on three new young patients that will again change her life. Jay and Emily ages thirteen are each having problems in their respective homes. Each problem different from the other but just as harmful. Neither wants to open up to Rachel. And then there is Alex, just turning six with the deposition of an older child. Alex, sees and speaks to Angels. What has she gotten herself into now. During on session, Alex tells Rachel not to worry because an angel is coming to help.

When a hostage crisis erupts. Rachel and three special children are in the middle of it all. Jake must rescue the one and only woman he loves, stop a crazed man, and keep the children safe and sane. But unknown to Jake, he has help. The angels come to the rescue.

I really liked this story. All the characters were not know in the beginning of the story. As she unfolded the story she introduced new characters and disclosed what parts they played in the story. Some are keep at bay until their time to be known and they fit right in place as needed. This is a story of love, hope, trust and the true belief that if you really with all your heart believe, there is an angel waiting for you to ask for help. I must ask, how many times have you turned your head because you felt someone watching you, just in time to see a shadow disappear? Five stars

Dr. Rachel Kelly is a child psychologist who is in the middle of dealing with her own issues when her best friend, middle school guidance counselor Jillian Henry, asks her to take on 3 new clients. All three cases are unique and each child needs Rachel's help in their own way.

Emily Miles is struggling on how to deal with her mother's new boyfriend, Stanley Nolan, and his unwanted advances. Jay Elledge is dealing with an abusive father and is trying to protect his younger brother Will. Alex Gerber is the youngest at 5 and he sees angels and they keep him safe.

As Rachel struggles to deal with her own issues surrounding her recent split with police negotiator Lt. Jake Dillon and secrets she kept to herself. When she finds herself in a crisis while at a Christmas party with her three new clients will she turn to Jake for assistance and will he be able to save them from the man with the gun? Will Alex's angels be able to keep them all safe?

This book was not at all what I thought it was going to be like and I was really taken in for an emotional read that really makes you think about angels in our lives. I am not a religious person but I do believe in angels and I really think that this book doesn't preach but makes you really think.

The book deals with so many difficult issues and I really think that the book shows that we need advocates such as Jillian and Rachel out there for the kids that need it the most.

I liked Rachel but wish she could have just been honest with Jake in the first place about everything that was going on with her. It was sad that the two loved each other so much but each would make mistakes that would push the other away. Yet her love for kids and helping them was so incredible and I really wish that there were more people out there like her that were in their profession for the love of kids and not for the money.

Jake was so torn as his actions said one thing but his heart said another. He was tired of being hurt but his actions caused so much of the pain. He knew he wanted Rachel but couldn't understand why she no longer wanted kids with him and instead of giving her a chance to explain he pushed her away. Yet there is still nothing he wouldn't do to protect her.

There were a few things I had figured out ahead of time - like with Wally but others surprised me.

Such a great read and a positive message about those that are there to protect us without us being aware of it.

this is given to me as an ARC from the Magic of Books Promotions and from the Author in exchange for an honest review .
so as a Christian i believe in miracles and Angels and Prayers for no matter the situation . and wow what a story and what innocence of Alex a boy who can see angels but also reminded of how Children can see things us adults can't especially if you have become Jaded by life and lose that way of seeing what is truly there than as a Child .
and then you have the abuse and unwanted attentions of someone who you do not like but also the other your related to but dealing with Abuse is never easy .
then you have a worker who works for you but is always grouchy but what if the person is not what they seem ,
and what of your fellow police officer is he really or is he more than meets the eye .
and what happens when you find out your partner is someone father who has finally realized you need to take back your family and protect them from someone who has ill intentions .
and to add to the Alex and how much children see

After a life-changing breakup, the relationship between the leads Rachel and Jake left much to be desire. I just couldn't resonate with the storyline nor characters, and I just ended up skimming some chapters to hopefully be drawn in by something, anything but I that was a no-no. Moreso, I could definitely see what most readers would find appealing about this series but it wasn't for me. The constant back and forth and misunderstandings between the characters that could easily be resolved if they just st down and talk about the sudden change of not wanting to start a family, etc. was annoying. Honestly the story just seem to drag out longer than necessary.

Angel to the Rescue by Petie McCarty
The Bible tells us angels watch over us and guard us in all our ways.
Author Petie McCarty takes this belief or this conceptual framework and weaves a compelling and inspirational novel. While a fulfilling romance, the book also is riddled with secondary characters whose lives spell mystery, heart ache and laughter.
The heroine, Rachel Kelly, is a child psychologist with a passion for children and for her ex-boyfriend, Jake. Rachel can’t share with Jake the secret tearing her apart and only impasse and misunderstanding abide between them. Hero, handsome police Lt. Jake Dillon, specialist in psychological profiling, loves Rachel deeply, but the two suffer misunderstandings of magnitude. Both are proud.
Jay and Emily, youngsters with problems no kid should have and which McCarty dares to address, come front and center and capture your heart. Throw in Alex, an adorable little kid who sees angels, to say nothing of the amazing ending of the book and you’ve an all-around winsome novel. Plus, you will probably believe in angels if you didn’t already.
I give this a five star easily.

This is a Christian story that revolves around the themes of love, redemption, second chances, family and the belief in angels. There were several different character plot lines that surfaced at different points in the story but ultimately were connected in the end. I enjoyed the individual characters and their different challenges. The reality of each situation made characters easy to empathize with. I was a bit taken back by the interactions of Jake and Rachel- two psychologists who for some reason can’t communicate with each other to solve their own problems. As the story progresses, it is clear that there is something “else” at work that cannot be rationally explained. Who is to say if the angels little Alex sees and speaks to do or do not really exist? A satisfying read with Christian themes that become more prominent as the story advances and a HEA that ties up most of the loose ends.

My heart goes out to the author who based the MD perspective/significance of genetic testing aspect from a family experience.

Wow, this book was a lot more intense than I thought it was going to be! You have a lot of elements working together here. You have a broken relationship, sick children, abused children, the child who sees angels, and then a bit of suspense when Rachel and the kids are kidnapped. My heart truly hurt for these kids, and for Rachel who is trying to face life after some devastating news. I honestly kept a Kleenex nearby, because tears had a tendency to surface in many places.

And then there is also the element of keeping the faith in life. Some characters are strong in their faith. Some are struggling. Some are finding it. But the most magical part of all is knowing there are angels among us.

This is not going to be one of your quick reads that you can easily breeze through. It definitely held my attention, but required a lot more digestion than a lot of romances and stories I have been reading as of late. The premise is an interesting one, and I may have to check out the other books in the series. I gave it 4.5 stars.

This story make you think about your view on angels and if you believe in them or not. The characters Rachel and Jake who are so much in love with each other. Things can take a drastic change in a relationship, we see if they are able to hold off on the problems. Rachel has start to help Alex in counseling. What do you do when a child tells you that you will soon have a guardian angel to help you with your problems. The story was written in a wonderful way that you could not help and fall in love with the characters and what message they were trying to send. recommend this book

I have to say I really enjoyed this book. Going into this book I have a few reservations because of how I felt about the first book but Rachel and Jake’s story was a great story. This story will pull so many emotions out of you. I enjoyed every second of their love story because not only did they make it a great story the secondary storyline made it so much better.
Angel to the Rescue is a must read to me, Ms. Petie definitely drew me into this story and kept me there until the end. I have to say there were parts of the story I was like OMG I can’t read but I stoke thru and was so happy I did.
This story while not long will hold you and won’t let you go. The plot, emotions, and characters will draw you into their world and hold you tight. I would read another book from her anytime .

This book was unexpected - I anticipated a sweet romance, but what I found was a story with much more depth and that delved into some tough issues. I expected those issues to focus on muscular dystrophy, but they also focused on child abuse and broken families.

While I enjoyed this novel, I found that Eugene's character's internal dialogue went on for too long and started to distract from the story. I thought the other characters were interesting and found myself invested in their story.

Because this novel was about angels, I expected there to be some type of Christian message, however, I was surprised by the depth of that message and the biblical verses incorporated into the story.

If you enjoy a Christian romance/suspense, you will want to read this one. I am a fan of the authors' work and she is well worth adding to your must read authors' list.
