Although born in New Orleans, I am proud to call myself an Alaskan. I have lived here for 37 years, I have survived -40 degrees, hauled water, made bear bacon and live in a cabin. I used a fish wheel to catch salmon coming up the Copper River. I was my second husband's chief mechanic's helper and only roadie. I cut firewood on shares, worked as a cocktail waitress, then as a paralegal for over 26 years. I hold the #80 press card as a reporter for the Copper Valley Views newspaper which ceased publication in the 1980s. I've been writing stories since junior high. Retired now, I can devote my time to what I love. I came to Alaska by way of Arizona and California. I experienced the building of the pipeline up close. Then my second husband and I moved to Wasilla to get warm. It hardly ever drops past -25 in South Central Alaska. I never thought I would love it so much I never want to leave. The beauty of Alaska is a draw I cannot resist. I love the people and the history. I have been captured by a place I came to under duress. Life does play some interesting tricks on one. I lost my first husband to alcohol. My second husband, the love of my life died as a result of disease. We were not apart more than 24 hours for 20 plus years . I never wanted to be anywhere but with him. He was a man to run the river with.
This is a very sweet romance that was just what I needed. Thank you Cherime! I love your down to earth stories.
Megs comes from an abusive marriage and is a struggling single parent when she meets Stu. Her car breaks down and he helps her out. He is a perfect mix of patience, tenderness and strength, and just what Meg and her traumatized daughter Mindy need.
Stu comes from a rather cold marriage and in return Megs offers not only to be his help-mate, but she also offers him passion which he sorely needed.
It is a nice tale of hope and healing as their family knits together and their love grows.
P.S. The mechanic details were amazing. As the daughter of a mechanic, I loved it.
I was given a copy of Then They Were Six in exchange for an honest review.
This was a sweat romantic tale that all started because of a car breakdown. Stu, an honest mechanic, happened to drive by and decided to help Megs when he saw her stuck on the side of the road. He took the vehicle to his shop to get it fixed and she offered to do some work for him after seeing that he was not good with paperwork. That gave them an excuse to spend time together and they eventually developed feelings for one another. Having just gotten out of a bad marriage, Megs felt that Stu was a blessing to her and her daughter. It wasn't long before they became a family. Stu had three children of his own from a previous marriage, and everyone did not always get along. But, just like in real life, the couple dealt with their problems and learned to accept their reconstructed household of six.
This story moved along pretty fast and the characters felt very real. If you like romance mixed with realistic issues that deal with divorce, new relationships, and reconstructed families, I think you will enjoy reading this book.
Then They Were Six by Cherime MacFarlane is an intriguing story that held me captive and had me surrender. Now I will have to pick up her other books because the writing in this book was so smooth and easy to get absorbed into. I liked the images of Alaska and the life-like characters. The surroundings added to the story and gave me a real feel of the area.
I loved the romance aspect to this tale. There was just something so endearing about the couple’s relationship. The twists and turns were engaging and realistic. Emotional at times but also an uplift. I would highly recommend this story to anyone that likes a sweet story that has an inspiring message. This spunky story a great escape and brought a smile to my face.
I adore books that spark my interest from the very start. This was one of those books. Engaging and entertaining is the best way I can describe Then They Were Six.
Quote ~
"She needed to get her mind off Thad, off the last fifteen years. Ten of those were akin to living hell. Reliving it was not going to make them go away. Nothing was going to make them go away. If it weren't so expensive, she would take up smoking again."
AN EASY READ I was amazed at the end of this book to see how many the author had written, dozens and I shall certainly look up a couple more. This book kept me guessing, as I was expecting a confrontation and it was a long time coming. A well written book that flowed easily, with clearly drawn characters and the hero? ... well he was just the perfect man, so I knew he was a work of fiction. He just did and said all the right things.
