3.5 stars. I felt like the story, while short, was enjoyable for the most part. I know there were a lot of details and depth to the majority of the story. However, the ending felt rushed and abrupt. I wish there were more details or a continuation as to what happened after what abruptly happened at the end, but being a short story, I guess that's not a possibility. It was a decent, super quick read, though.

Heather's first case in Glenville is a dozy. The Bachelorette gives Glenville fans a look into Heather Bishop's past and a chance to see how much she has grown! And Tina sure has come a long way! Setting the stage for the next book The Bachelorette is a fast, gritty look of Glenville. Highly recommended for all Glenville fans!

Great prequel!

Get a glimpse into the beginning of Detective Heather Bishop's first days on the force in Glenville. When a member of a bachelorette party ends up dead, can Heather track down the killer?

I recently discovered Cara Kent and her books and have enjoyed every one of them so far. Give her loveable characters a read - you won't be disappointed!

As Detective Heather Bishop start her new job in the small town of Glenville, a murder soon happens. Not only is she getting conflicting stories from "witnesses", but she is also at odds with the sheriff as how to handle things and who is a suspect. I voluntarily reviewed this short story.

Detective Heather Bishop moved to Glenville, a small town in Washington state, to get a break from her hectic city cop career. Her first case was that of a missing young woman who was last seen at her sister's bachelorette party. There were two suspects right away, and Heather's instinct made her pursue one lead with determination. This novella was a great start to the Glenville series, and it made me want to read the rest of the series, especially book 4, which picks up five years after this prequel ends.

If I was going to say anything negative about Cara Kent's book, "The Bachelorette," it would be that it was too short. It was a great wee book to read in an afternoon. It was an interesting story about the grisly murder of one of the female residents. It was a "whodunit" kind of story with peoples' accusations going in a few different directions.

The story was paced perfectly for its length. It is really hard to bring a short story to life but Kent did a great job of it. The character development was excellent for such a short story. You had the keen detective from the big city there in a small-town setting. Kent gives you just enough about each suspect so that you can form your own opinion. This is the only bit that was difficult for me because there wasn't enough "evidence" to form a solid opinion on any one person, but Kent did a great job tying it all up and wrapping it up in a bow. I even loved the use of odd homesteads of a couple of the suspects. It made the story more interesting. I highly recommend reading it.

I honestly don't know if I liked this or not.
The writing was easy to read and flowed well. The plot was ok, until the ending where it became rushed to the point of me really having to check if the first book was a direct continuation, but no. (Apparently it related to book 4 of all books in the series).

Heather is ok as a main character, but inflexible and not very convincing as a top detective. The whole plot reeks of burnt out smart city cop vs bumbling village cops, who knows everyone and gives no shit about the CSI hassle.

Another complaint, and the one that docked the most stars, is that Heather comes across as INCREDIBLY insufferable. She's Simon Pegg in Hot Fuzz, except with very few likable traits.
I almost wanted her to be wrong, just so she'd be knocked down a pegg.

I will not be continuing on to the series proper, not even for the vague promise of more closure in book 4. Lol.

Bachelorette

When a Bridal shower descends on Dotties diner while the new detective in town is eating and sobering up while waiting for her taxi, she meets the brides sister and has a conversation with her. The next day, Jenny is found dead and it's up to Heather Bishop, the new detective in town who has come from Seattle to find the killer. How she manages to find the killer and solve the case makes for a great read. I really enjoyed this one and will try to find more by this author.

This is a nice introduction to Heather Bishop and her arrival to the police force in Grenville. I have been reading all of the books in the series and always wondered how were the first days of Heather’s career in this small town and I got some of the answers by reading this short book.
Even if the case was a little predictable and we are used to more complicated cases the book was very enjoyable to read and can’t wait for more Heather Bishop books to read.

A short prequel to a series, this was only 66 pages long. Basically about a homicide detective who moves from a big town in Washington to a smaller town. Her boss is a drunk and an idiot. She is looking for peace and quiet, but her first day at work starts with investigating the murder of a young girl she met the night before. Jenny was part of her sisters bachelorette party, but stayed behind when they left the bar. People saw her talking with her boyfriend, next day she is found dead.

This was a very quick, easy read.
I didn't realize it was just a few short chapters in length when I started reading about Heather who gets a transfer to a different police station in the state of Washington and her first case is labeled a homicide. Jenny ends up dead, and Heather is on the case to find the killer. It was pretty easy to guess who did it.

Short story mystery/thriller

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this E-arc for my honest review.
A short story thriller/mystery. Quick read with a basic, often used plot. The characters were superficial and the ending was anticipated.

The short book was too short!!!

For a second there I forgot that I'd deliberately picked a book off my TBR list that I could finish in one sitting. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

I am indifferent about the book. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t anything memorable or mind blowing. Simple short story involving a dead girl and a detective trying to figure out what happened. It was very easy to guess the killer.

Good read.

The story was good. Didn't like that there wasn't a twist at the end, and a different murderer became evident in this murder and the disappearing people. Could have left out the foul language.

Fun read

I enjoyed this. Predictable big city lady detective transplants into good old boys small town. With her experience she knows the sheriff is going after the wrong person for a crime. Fun story.

Good introduction

This was a short prequel. As I have not read the other stories yet, this was a great way to introduce the characters and get a taste for the author's writing. A good read and I look forward to learning more about Heather and her skills as a detective.

Nice, short read

Not bad. The killer was pretty quickly dispatched but when writing a short novella, I guess that is how it works. None of the usual detail.
