The sexy chipmunk shifter isn't afraid of the dentist; he's in love with him.
Phillip has the best job working at the Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly. As a chipmunk shifter, Phillip has seen handsome men walk through the door but none so gorgeous as his boss and wolf shifter, Dr. Gunner Samuels. When he finds himself being manipulated by his best friend to ask the big bad wolf over for dinner, Phillip realizes his biggest dilemma, he's never cooked a day in his life, let alone meat. Can Phillip pull off a fabulous dinner for two? And has Gunner had his eye on the sexy shifter all this time?
Short, sexy and sweet—where a little love goes a long way. That’s the best way to describe Jackie Nacht’s stories. I was introduced to M/M Romance through my sister, Stephani, and read it for years. Then, I thought it was time to put my own stories on paper. I began writing short and sweet stories that ended with a happily ever after…and sometimes more than one, in the case of my YA Fork in the Road series, which has interactive endings. Thinking back to my own book addiction, where there were many nights I stayed up way too late so I could read just one more chapter—yeah, right—I decided to write short romances for young adults as well as adults. Hopefully, they will give high school and college students, or working men and women something they can read during their lunch hour, in between classes or just when they want to briefly get away from the daily stresses of everyday life. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter and at my webpage: www.jackienacht.com.
I like shifter stories, I like unusual shifters, I like that it isn't immediate 'my mate' commence with sex and marking. I also liked that they are like a dentist and his billing clerk, and not an alpha and his whatever... It's a totally fluffy light and easy read. I might have liked more of a back story on Phillip, his siblings/family are mentioned but that's it, do they visit? Do they miss him? Does he plan to visit them! Why did he move? What about Gunnar? What's his deal? And the town, how did that come to be? But, if I take it all with a grain of salt and just enjoy it for what it is, it's a cute little snack read. “Then the doctor did something that had Phillip jerking back slightly: the doctor sniffed him. Ugh…how rude for a wolf to sniff a chipmunk. There was social protocol that you just didn’t cross, and sniffing an omnivore was one of them.”
You know how sometimes you're in the mood to read something short and sweet? Preferably with a chipmunk shifter in it?
Well apparently that's exactly the mood I was in when I was browsing for a book to buy (because the nearly 200 books I already own but haven't read weren't calling me) and I ran into this. I read the words "chipmunk shifter" in the blurb and I was sold.
Phillip, the chipmunk shifter, just landed a job working for the hot wolf shifter dentist, Gunner, at the Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly. He may be a little intimidated by the predator but he's still crushing hard on him.
With some manipulation from his best friend, Phillip ends up having to cook dinner for Gunner. The problem is Gunner is expecting some meat [insert penis joke here] and not only can Phillip not cook but he's a vegetarian. Shenanigans and sex ensue.
I loved the idea of this story, the chipmunk and the wolf shifter, and the setting - the Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly - sounded awesome. Seriously, a chipmunk shifter - how cute is that? I really have to give credit for that! There were other nice ideas as well (e.g., I loved the last scene!), so this had the potential of a pretty interesting read.
The reason why I still can't give more than 2 stars is that the story execution fell totally flat for me. Because of the writing. I know other people won't feel that way and I'm aware that I may be a little extreme regarding how important the writing style, the phrasings and word choices are to me, so take this rating with a little caution. But to me, the writing seemed simply amateurish. Word repetitions, repetitive sentence structures, redundant descriptions, and pretty unlikely story content (). All of this significantly diminished my fun in reading the story, I'm afraid. So, not more than 2 stars from my side and I'm afraid I'll probably avoid the author in the future.
Cutey chipmunk shifter falling for his wolf shifter dentist boss. I like the world created here. Very insular so a lot of stories to tell. This was adorable with a nice level of heat.
This little story was absolutely adorable! With the prospect of a new job, Phillip is all too eager to move to a new state to work in a town filled with all types of shifters. What Phillip didn’t expect, though, was the wolf shifter who just so happens to be his future sexy boss, Dr. Gunner Samuels. Phillip feels more than just lust when it comes to the hunky wolf and in an attempt to push the two together, Phillip’s best friend invites the boss over for a dinner that Phillip has to cook. There’s just two problems, Phillip doesn’t know how to cook… and he’s a vegetarian.
I loved that this story is filled with so many clever one-liners. It had me chuckling often because of the mix of humor and funny animal characteristics. As a wolf, Gunner can’t help but sniff Phillip and as a chipmunk, Phillip can’t help but hoard nuts and other foods. It was a good mix of cute and funny that kept a smile on my face throughout the story.
With those little attributes, I found the characters very endearing. I just loved Phillip’s stammering over talking to Gunner about anything not related to work but I also loved that Gunner found so much amusement in Phillip’s awkwardness. It’s… well, adorable. I’m not sure how else to describe it! It’s also very sweet the way that Gunner wants to cherish and care for Phillip.
While I enjoyed the story it was just too darn short! I loved the chemistry between Gunner and Phillip but I wished there had been more meat to the story to really give that connection some justice. As it is, I didn’t exactly feel the love that the characters claimed to have. There were also some moments that I would have loved to see instead of being told about.
All in all, an adorably funny story about a chipmunk and a wolf who just happen to work together. Add to that a vegetarian trying to make dinner for a wolf who craves meat and this story is bound to give you a few laughs. For those looking for something quick, funny and cute, give this one a try because it definitely fits the bill!
When reading this book you'll need to suspend your belief on what you think a story plot should be like. This story isn't to be taken seriously. It's like a little fairytale with shifters living in this idyllic little town that no human can find and every shifter gets along with the others. Carnivore and Herbivore alike. If you take this with a grain of salt, you'll enjoy it, if you're too serious about it, you won't.
First I love the series title Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly. I don't know how long it took the author to think that up, but it's clever and funny.
This is the story of Dr. Gunner Samuels a dentist for shifters in White Pine Village in Northern Michigan. Gunner is not only a dentist, but a wolf shifter and he's put out an ad for a medical coding and billing position. This is where Phillip Fieldstone a chipmunk shifter comes in. Once he's hired, the story follows the two and their UST for each other with neither of them expressing their desires. The dental hygenist Beauregard, who happens to be a deer shifter, meddles and gets Phillip to invite Gunner to a home cooked meal of meat, which of course Phillip doesn't eat because he's a vegetarian.
I enjoyed this book. It's a cute, fast, fluffy read and it has almost no errors. One of the things I thought was funny, was that the characters debunk some of the shifter myths that they've read in shifter romance stories. That was amusing.
I found Peanut Butter and Jelly For Two a cute, quick entertaining read to pass the time. I give it 3 Stars

AHH!!! How have I not read these books before?? Sometimes I read deep, dark, dramatic, angsty stories, and I think those are my favorite ones. I like a story that affects me emotionally, that makes me cry, that is long and involved. But when I read too many of those I get depressed! And overwhelmed. Then I read lighter stories and I think those are the best thing ever! This is a light and fluffy story, and I swear that is NOT an insult! I love me some light and fluffy stories! (And some deep dark ones too!)
Jackie Nacht is a new-to-me author, I’ve followed her on Facebook for some time but I haven’t read any of her books. I saw her do a reading from the third book in this series at GRL, that was so funny and sweet, that I pulled up my phone and added the book to my Goodreads TBR list. When I had the time I requested them all to read for review. I’m so happy I did!
Jackie has created a fantastic world, White Pine Valley, Michigan. The entire town is inhabited by shifters of various sorts. In this first book we meet Phillip, a chipmunk shifter from a VERY large family in Georgia. He has been taking classes online to get a degree in medical billing and coding. He sees his dream job at the Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly office in White Pine Valley and he applies and immediately gets the job! He settles in and starts his new life. His boss, Gunner, is a wolf shifter and is very attracted to the photo Phillip included with his application. It’s not said, but there are suspiciously few applicants for the office job that Phillip gets, even though he has no experience… Gunner knows what he wants and makes it happen. But he’s surprisingly subtle for a determined wolf. He sees how shy Phillip is, and how new he is to this life away from his family. He slowly works his way closer to Phillip. With the help of Beauregard that is. There’s not a lot of plot here so I’m going to stop there before I give anything away. It’s a short, sweet little story that needs to be read!
One of the things I like about this world is the rules are different from other shifter books. There are no fated mates, these guys are attracted to one another because they are, not because they have to be. They don’t heal injuries when they shift, and they DO use condoms. But I notice their mass changes when they shift, so Phillip is a little guy in chipmunk form! I like that all different forms of shifters live together. We meet a chipmunk, a wolf, a bear, a deer, a lion, and a shark! The local businesses cater to different types of shifters, there is a nut and salad restaurant that the vegetarian Phillip frequents, and a steak house that serves raw steak to the carnivores!
This is going to sound goofy, but I totally believe this world could exist. Shifters and all! What a fun story, a cute romance between Phillip and Gunner, a little bit of sex, and a fun new world. If you like shifters and stories on the lighter side, you’ll probably like this one. Or is you are new to shifters this would be a fun place to start. There not a huge amount of plot, no angst, no drama, it’s not very long, but oh so tasty! A good snack of a book.
I can’t wait to read the other books!

REVIEW: Shifter stories have a special place in my heart. And I loved that I am constantly introduced to new types. And now I can add a chipmunk shifter… how gorgeous. And the whole Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly is a wonderful concept and probably a much needed one in the shifter world.. After all where does a self respecting predator go to get his smile whitened?? The very first time I heard the title of this book and the series I was intrigued and my sense of the humour was as well. I giggled at the whole storage compulsion and the way Phillip avoided talking about it. I laughed at the predators day that Phillip described and how he felt about it. I did gigglesnort at his attraction to the wolf shifter dentist Gunner and the myriad of things that could have gone wrong on their first date. This is wonderfully written light and feel good story with room to grow and expand. And as it is number one of a series it falls onto PB&J’s shoulders to start to introduce the characters and world that we will be seeing in the next installments. I love the idea of a whole town of shifters and how Jackie Nacht has incorporated the animal characteristics into the family structures and the behaviours of each shifter. It is no angst filled story where pain matches pain, the closest they come is real life problems like Phillip is a vegetarian whilst gunner of course is a meat eater… Read it… it’s sweet and beautiful and I am hoping for some honey in the next one?!?!
As a fan of Jackie Nacht’s Holiday Jobs That Don’t Suck series, I was very hopeful that the lightheartedness from that series would transfer over to this story. I was very happy to see, yes it did!
Phillip is a chipmunk shifter (don’t call him a hoarder) and he wants to work at the Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly. He is nervous at his interview, as well he should be – the dentist is a wolf shifter. One who sniffed him, for Pete’s sake!
Phillip has the hots for the hot wolf dentist, Gunner, and he shows it by being unable to speak a coherent word, let alone sentence, around the guy. It is up to the hygienist who happens to be friends with both Gunner and Phillip to get these two on the path to true love. Or burnt roast. Or something. As a vegetarian, Phillip’s teeny tiny sliver of meat on his plate made me smile. Back to the Nut and Leaf Café, Phillip. Oh, and Gunner’s turn to cook? Adorable!
Several typical shifter myths are debunked here – they don’t heal when shifted, they have to work at being mated and a big one, sex has a burn when the guy’s dick is big and not only can they catch disease, they have to use condoms!
Uh. It was inoffensive. Also incredibly brief and lacking interesting scenes or particularly vivid characters. It does not help that during the first half the protagonists barely even interact. At this short length you kind of have to make every word count towards the romance itself.
And when they did get around to having face-to-face time… Well, to be honest it was oddly uneventful. A few scenes with time skips of deepening relationship summary in between; the end. A friendly story, but also one much in need of maturing.
At one point the author even slipped into “we” when it should have been “they”, so I’m wondering if perhaps this was initially written as multiple first person? It would explain the sentence structures – the way they seem to address the reader directly. Hm.
There’s a second volume already, so I will read that one as well. I’m hoping for a little more depth. Sometimes that takes a while in a new series or with a fresh author.
This is the first in the Paranormal Dentistry series and it lays out the shifter world as decreed by Jackie Nacht. Most of it is as you’d expect – but, there’s no specific “mate” call, shifters find love across species, they don’t magically heal with each shift and they are succebptible to human problems – like cavities.
Phillip is a medical assistant for Dr. Gunner Samuels. Both men are immediately attracted to one another, but Phillip is leery of hitting on his boss and Gunner doesn’t want to scare off his shy new assistant.
Eventually the matchmaking efforts of Beauregard pay off and they finally agree to date and that leads to … well, mating. This is a very sweet and funny story with some pretty hot smexy times and a delightful start to a great series.
Phillip is delighted with his new job working at Paranormal Dentistry. He sees many good looking men come and go but none can compare with the dentist, Dr. Gunther Samuels. He watches him every day but cannot bring himself to make a move. When his friend helps him by manipulating him into asking for a date, Phillip is delighted. But what is he going to make? He is a chipmunk and Gunther is a wolf. He has never served meat before.
I read this one after some of the other stories in this series. I was captivated by the joy and the uniqueness of the series. Set in Pine Valley, a shifter community, love comes to a variety of shifters, many of them natural enemies. The touch of humor included makes this a series to leave a few smiles. Pick up this first book and get a flavor for the fun and love games that go on in Pine Valley. Then runout and get the rest!!
This is an adorable story. How can it not be when it is about a chipmunk shifter with a tendency to hoard food who falls for his wolf boss? A town in Northern Michigan is a haven for shifters, with businesses geared toward them. Phillip is a chipmunk who comes to be a billing/medical coder at the Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly, which is exactly what it sounds like, a dentist office that caters to shifters, both in human and animal form, run by wolf-shifter, Gunner Samuels. Sparks fly the first time these two meet, but Phillip is as timid as any chipmunk would be around a predator. What I loved best was how the author acknowledged and threw away all the common romance novel myths about shifters. A great read to pass the time before bed!
Jackie Nacht is kind of a bad writer. I get what she's trying to do with these stories, and aspiring to be on par with the likes of authors like Charlie Richards shouldn't be an unattainable goal. Sadly for some (like Nacht), it is. The premise is cool, but that's about all this series has going for it. The pacing, characterization, world building, dialogue, technical writing... It's just all bad. And where Charlie Richards can usually make her stories engaging enough that you want to ignore the glaring shortcomings, Nacht just doesn't have that same knack for storytelling. Because on top of everything else, these stories are boring. Formulaic to the point of sleep-inducing.
3.5 Hearts Review written for MM Good Book Reviews
A chipmunk shifter and a wolf shifter… Hmmm! Alright, I admit it; after being totally in love with Jackie Nacht’s wolves (the ones I’ve met at Moon Compound series) I’d blindly go and read any story of hers, but chipmunk and wolf? Yeah, I was very, very cautious while opening and starting reading this one. And I got surprised...
The lack of being able to cook really humanized an otherwise supernaturally tinged story. It was like a boy meets boy story in the world of all things funky, and the comparison made it both humorous and enjoyable. I loved the way Nacht made all the little quirks of the shaper culture seem so commonplace, as if their world were simply the real world with all the struggles and mishaps a normal human would face.
Good imagination ... but more than a story, this book seemed more a series of vignettes of a children's book (aside from the sex, of course, which also seemed out of place in the atmosphere created). There was not a plot: a real beginning, followed by a climax and a resolution as closure. Ok that this is a short story, and you can not create a real plot, but also those manage to send a emotion if well written, but in this case the story was flat:. Recommended to people who are interested in stories with pure and simple fluff (not fanfiction).
I thought it was hilarious that this series debunked many of the acceptable myths about shifters. I would love to hear more about crossover traits, both physical and social (hoarding). I find it cute that neither of them can cook, although the reason they can't is very acceptable. I do like the idea of an all shifter town, so they can be themselves. I'm definitely looking forward to more in this series.
So throw out everything you thought you knew abt shifters!! This book is a totally different take on shifters. ...in this series they are just as boring as humans :-/. Mates are pretty much chosen in this series.. just like humans. There's absolutely no magic or mystery involved in the shifting. No healing. NADA. But at least the characters are kinda cute...
This was adorable! I love the different shifters! Phillip, chipmunk! <3 and the hoarding! Gunner and the PB&J sandwiches! So cute! I wish it was longer and I'm definitely interested with the rest of the characters introduced! :)
Jackie Naught takes on all the cliches of shifters. No instant love, no super healing, and no immunity to human diseases. She makes it believable and cute. It is a short, sweet story.
