As befits a book with this title, Bryson's work covers a range of scientific topics from the birth of the universe to the rise of civilization to 20th century concerns about geology, paleontology and anthropology.

Bryson's witty writing style never flags and in his conversations with "the experts" he asks the same kind of questions - and cheerfully admits to the same kind of ignorance - that would be typical of any reader.

Some of the most approachable scientific writing you'll ever read can be found within these pages.

Highly recommended!

Such an informative book. Lots of great info without being dry and hard to comprehend.
